Cool or Crap?

We may have had a thread like this earlier where you put a 'guilty pleasure' band or album - one that you may secretly love but feel shame for doing so - up for scrutiny by the SAFooty jury in the hope that you may not actually be crazy after all, or at least are not alone in your delusions.
Anyway, to kick it off, I put forward Fleetwood Mac.
My spidey senses tell me they are the archetypal dinosaur 70s MOR band that used to be a commercial FM radio staple before finding a more comfy home on Cruise for the nannas. In short everything that punk set out to destroy.
And yet, I can't shake an unhealthy addiction to Tusk and Rumours in particular. Before Stevie Nicks sounded like she inhaled a goat (she probably did - she inhaled most everything else) and the band imploded.
The more I read about them the more I am fascinated by their blues origins with Peter Green, the shift in dynamics with Buckingham / Nicks, the relentless drugs and debauchery...oh, and the tunes are fantastic!
Or are they? Fleetwood Mac - Cool or Crap?

I'm going with crap. MOR stadium 70's rock - the very opposite of everything held dear by grumpy old punks like me. Having said that they seem to be undergoing a resurgance amongst 20 somethings that I know these days. But WTF do 20 somethings know about decent music

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac: very cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yq-Fw7C26YLindsay Buckingham era Fleetwood Mac: not so cool (kind of like ABBA, you can secretly like them, but never really admit to it)

Crap, almost as boring as Dire Straits.

Early blues Mac, good.
Anything after rubbish.
I just don't get FM, same as The Eagles.

Tusk was blurting out of the PA at Elizabeth last weekend. Great track. Quite like some of the naff '80s stuff too (Big Love).
FM = Cool.

I could make a very long list of "guilty pleasures", but I'll give just one:
Neil Diamond.
Go on, let me have it....

Went to a party once where the low-fi indie kid hosts chucked on Neil Diamond and The Eagles.
Cracked up laughing coz I thought they was being "ironic cool".
Nope. I was wrong. They were dead serious.

I tried to stay silent as long as I could on this topic until I read this post, Wedgie.
The youth of today just don't appreciate great music, it seems

This topic is getting worse. I'm not ashamed to admit I know much of their music nearly word perfect and had a great night out at the tribute band, the Bald Eagles Saturday night.
This topic is bothering me

I rate the Eagles mate. But we must be in the millions of disillusioned music fans out there who also like them. Lol

I hate being slung into the indie category of music, just because I'm a fan of certain types of music. I have a very broad taste.
Here are some of examples of indie or cool music that I like:
Tom Jones
Frank Ifield
DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince
Duran Duran, which I admit does have a certain cache among the indie kids but not the 'serious' music fans.
That's a start.

Hmmm not a big fan of Vanilla Ice.
Except in Step Brothers.
