Coldplay is one of the best bands in the world right now. Unfortunately, this still makes them complete and utter carp. Why is that bands of today either have wussy singers a la Michael Stipe or are out and out groaners like Eddie Vedder? The pop singles can't get by without inserting an 80's hook and r&b is only bearable when you turn down the sound and look at their sweet young a55es, after all, how do you think they got that recording contract slurp slurp .

I feel sorry for you young blokes..trying desperately hard to convince us and yourselves that no idea mimers such as 50 cent have even the slightest bit of talent. You've got us much chance of convincing us that that 5hit rocks as we have of turning back the clock back to that glorious time when truly ugly individuals such as Mick Jagger could ever get recorded just because they had something worthwhile in the can.

Rock and Roll is dead and the music industry combined with reality TV and generic easy to flush bull5hit is the killer. Excuse me while I kiss the sky....if you don't know what song that is from then I'm talking to YOU.

REB,spot on.Manufactured pop has made it's way out of such tragic series as Australian Idol and made it's way into all music forms.Image is now more important than any talent,not to say image was not important,but talent got you through in days gone by ie: Mick Jagger.Now all you need is black nail polish,an eye brow ring,big biceps (for the guys) or a fine a55 and cleavage to burn (for the girls).

How many of todays "stars" could sit down with a Maton and strum out some chords with some meaningful lyrics attached? Very very few,sadly I might add.

Rock is dead,punk is for moles like Avril and pop is way too dark

RIP Rock'n'roll.

I'm getting old as well but that has nothing do with my loathing of Coldplay. They are just plain awful.
There are some good bands still around you just have to dig around more. They aren't the bands getting hugh rotation on Channel V, MTV or austereo.

I dont rate them at all but hell, someone must. By all accounts they are a huge international act and sell alot of cd's.

Seems pretty trendy to be Coldplay bashing in here.
I don't mind saying they're okay, just depends on the mood really.
'Clocks' suits the Test team's entrance onto the field pretty well IMO.

Anyway, declaring rock dead is a bit premature I reckon. Sure it's been pushed into a corner against the onslaught of (mostly) modern American shite, but fortunately there's still some pretty solid rock groups around like The White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age.
Check out The Black Keys' albums as well if you like rock with a strong blues flavour.

I hate to be "trendy" but I'd rather poke my own eyes out with a hot stick, but each to their own.
A lot of people wouldn't like ABBA, Neil Diamond and the Village People like I do!

It's taken me 40 years but finally I'm trendy!! Thanks interceptor for giving me something to hang my hat on. I'll listen out for these acts as I would still like to see some signs of life in the patient.
