The Grammys 2010

Postby Wedgie » Sat Jan 30, 2010 1:51 am

On Monday our time.
Who's going to be the big winner, Beyonce or Taylor Swift?
I'm hoping for young Taylor.
Just a question which might be really dumb, what exactly is the "Record of the Year"?
I understand "Album of the Year" and "Single of the Year" but "Record of the Year" seems to be similar to "Single of the Year" in that Taylor has the same single nominated for both and Beyonce has a different single nominated for each one.
I'm assuming similar criteria but perhaps voted by different people?
I could google it but its more fun and lazy asking here. :D

Record of the Year is, essentially, awarded to the artist and production team behind the record - which can be an album track, not necessarily a single (more often than not, its a single and usually the big one by the artist that most know).

Song of the Year is for the songwriter specifically.

Pretty "rigged" if you ask me.

All about US record companies giving expensive gifts to judges to boost sales.

It's quite known in the industry. ;)

Yeah but Milli Vanill were only up against Neneh Cherry, Indigo Girls, Soul II Soul and Tone Lōc where Led Zep had Crosby, Still and Nash to get past! ;)

PS She won 4 Grammys, I didn't count the awards not telecast.

Neil Young won his first Grammy, after nearly 50 years of trying, in the category of "Best Art Direction On a Boxed Edition".

Not a category I was overly familiar with either.

When Nickelback - possibly THE lamest band in the world today - continually get nominated for best Hard Rock Performance you really do have to question the value/credibility of a Grammy. ;)
