Australian guitarist Rowland S Howard lost his battle with liver cancer this morning. Rowland started out as teenager with The Young Charlatans then joined Boys Next Door who moved to the UK and changed their name to The Birthday Party. When The Birthday Party imploded he went onto to play with Crime and City Solution, before forming These Immortal Souls. In the last decade he released two solo (critically acclaimed) albums Teenage Snuff Film (1999) and Pop Crimes (2009).
I first was introduced to Rowland the musician through the album Door Door by Boys Next Door in 1979 and I was introduced to Rowland the person through mutual friends back in the late 1990s.
I found him to be a wonderful man full of funny stories and gentle humour and a great friend.
I'll miss you mate. RIP you deserve it.
