Noughties Lists

Some musically-minded mates of mine have too much time on their hands and have been assembling and sharing anally retentive Hi Fidelity-style lists of 00s music, specifically:
- Top 10 albums 2009
- Top 10 noughties albums
- Top 10 noughties songs
- Top 10 Cheese of the noughties - ie. stuff you've snuck onto your mp3 player without anyone knowing
- Top Bands of the noughties

To hopefully kick off something similar, here's mine:

Top 10 Albums 2009, in no particular order.

• Engineers – Three Fact Fader (my winner for the year)
• Hilltop Hoods – State of the Art
• Passion Pit – Manners
• Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest
• The Horrors – Primary Colours
• Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More (which I only got into recently but it hasn't left my stereo since)
• Built to Spill – There is No Enemy
• White Lies – To Lose My Life
• U2 – No Line on the Horizon
• Bat For Lashes – Two Suns

Top 10 Noughties Albums, in no particular order except for the Avalanches at No.1

• Avalanches – Since I Left You
• Engineers – Three Fact Fader
• Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
• Maps – We Can Create
• Radiohead – In Rainbows
• The Wrens – The Meadowlands
• Cut Copy – In Ghost Colours
• Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – Abbatoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus
• Arcade Fire – Funeral
• Radio Dept – Pet Grief

Top 10 Songs of the Noughties...actually we had the luxury of 50. Narrowing it down to 10 is a nightmare and makes my musical tastes appear even more commercial than they probably are.

Avalanches – Since I Left You
Radiohead – House of Cards
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps
Bat For Lashes – What’s a Girl to Do?
Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream
Johnny Cash – Hurt
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Breathless
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?
78 Saab - Sunshine (I'm counting this as 2000, though it was recorded in 1999 so there)

Cheese of the Noughties...God help me:

• All Saints – Black Coffee
• Ruslana – Wild Dances (trad Eurovision cheese)
• Lordi – Hard Rock Hallelujah (hard rockin' Eurovision cheese)
• Damien Leith – Night of My Life
• Robbie Williams - Tripping
• MIA – Paper Planes
• Rogue Traders – In Love Again (the Tears for Fears one)
• Peter Bjorn & John – Young Folk
• Blink 182 – Miss You
• Saint Etienne – Let’s Build a Zoo
• Lily Allen – The Fear
• Gwen Stefani – What Are You Waiting For?
• Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc
• Sugababes – I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor (cover)
• The Wombats – Let’s Dance to Joy Division
• Kaiser Chiefs – Tomato in the Rain
• A-Ha – The Bandstand
• Futureheads – Hounds of Love (cover)
• Craig David – Let’s Dance
• Chemical Brothers – Salmon Dance
• Anything by Kylie

Bands / Artistes of the Noughties:

I posted my fave albums of the noughties on another thread. If I was to whittle that down to ten:

The The - NakedSelf (2000)
Vive La Fête - Nuit Blanche (2004)
Client - Command (2009)
Alice Cooper - Along Came A Spider (2008)
Ladytron - Light And Magic (2002)
Cut Copy - Bright Like Neon Love (2004)
Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires (2008)
Max Rouen - The Magnetic Wave Of Sound (2007)
The Long Blondes - Couples (2008)
The Presets - Apocalypso (2008)

I doubt that I could work out sufficient lists for the other categories.

LL's Best of 2009

Gig of the Year - Grong Grong at The Tote - 25 years on and still like nothing you've ever seen. Close second Rowland Howard at Ding Dong, Bitter Sweet Kicks at Lyre Bird, New Christs at Espy

Image

Album of the Year - Rowland S Howard "Pop Crimes"- The comeback of the decade. Ten years since his last album and well worth the wait.
Image

Song/Single of the Year - Bitter Sweet Kicks "Team Rock n Roll"- Album due soon is already going to hard to beat for my album of 2010. The most exciting new live band I have seen in eons.
