Was pondering some of the more well known tracks by bands that are played heavily on radio, yet were never released on single. Most obvious one is Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven", but the Eagles "Desperado", Billy Joel's "Captain Jack", Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" and The Doors "The End" also come to mind as being instantly well known songs by bands that weren't released.

Just interested to hear some other's thoughts on popular band tracks never released on single.

Both Zep and Floyd were well known for their reluctance to release singles, so just about any song on radio by either would count.

Mick Jagger's "Hard Woman" was never released as a single from the solo album "She's The Boss". However he did make a promotional video for this song, solely to encourage people to buy the album.

Just to be pedantic Comfortably Numb was a single (the 2nd off "The Wall") and Stairway to Heaven was also released as a 3 track EP in Australia. Desperado whilst it is very popular Eagles track now only really started getting airplay after Linda Ronstadt released her version on single.

As for the subject any song off Sgt Pepper by The Beatles would qualify as the album had no singles released off it at the time.
