CD Wow

A pretty cool site to buy your more mainstreamish music, games etc - always quite cheap and free (& quick) postage is great.
But here's a little tip.

With the Aussie dollar the way it is, compare prices at the US and UK versions before buying from the AUS site - everything comes from the same warehouse in Hong Kong as I understand it, just a different shop front.

I just bought the 'Super Deluxe Edition' of The Unforgettable Fire by U2 which, if you can find it, can cost around the $70 mark locally.

cdwow.com.au has it for $62.95 AUD
cd-wow.com UK has it for 30.49 GBP ($54.60 AUD)
cdwow.us has it for $45.99 US ($49 AUD)
(As a comparison it's on sale at Amazon for $55 US and does not include freight)

So obviously I went for the US version, free postage to boot. Almost too good to be true but there you go.

I used to go through CD Wow a fair bit and like you would search around at their different sites, do a currency conversion and get whatever from the cheapest one.

Then after a couple of years CD's or DVD's would start turning up with cracked cases and one double disc dvd had fallen out of the cheap cover they had it in during transit and the little knob that's meant to hold the disc in scratched the disc so badly it couldn't even be played. After some to and fro they eventually agreed to send me out a replacement copy. Also a few times I had orders cancelled when they would release something for a ridiculous price and then run out of stock (assuming they had much stock to begin with!).

Despite the slightly cheaper prices it just got too unprofessional for me in the end and now go through Play4me/Chaos or JB Hi-Fi Online. I haven't placed an order through Amazon for years due to their rip off delivery prices.

Fair enough Gozu you sound like you've had some dramas with them. But on the other side of the fence I can safely say I've had probably 2 dozen orders through them in the past few years and have always been really impressed by their service.

No probs if I were you I'd keep milking it then with their lower prices & free delivery too but eventually it might start to come unstuck a bit.

I think I may have had a couple of broken CD cases but I'd think that wouldn't necessarily be uncommon with other similar international transactions like that.
