Favourite Songs from the 60s and 70s

I have found that the older I get, the older my tastes get. New music interests me less and less, and I find myself listening to music from decades before I was born. A friend of mine asked me to list my favourite songs of the 60s and 70s and show him. So I thought I would put them here, too.

This is by no means a definite list, just what I thought of off the top of my head. Yes, there are some songs you'll think are pathetic, and some that make you laugh - but I don't care I'm a sucker for a good sappy love song at times.

Spot on. My formative years were the 70's & I just hated most of the music of that era. Disco made me want to puke. Thank god new wave/punk came when it did. However now I can listen to all the old stuff & reaaly appreciate it. Sam & Dave are priceless. Old Elvis - fantastic. Even The Seekers I can appreciate. mamas & papa's too. Despite hating a lot of the 70's stuff then - I know most of the words & rarely get stumped come trivia music questions/snatches of that era???

Have to admit though, when the family disappear & it's just me and the dawg - out comes Iggy Pop, Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedy's, Patti Smith, Jam, Ramones. I can't let go that easily!

MUSIC THROUGH THE AGES

20s-30s al jolsin and eddie cantor were the greatest back then
40s boring zzzzzzz
50S music was born, rock and roll was sensational
60S greatest music off all time, mersey beat my favourites
70S OK glam rock, soft pop,and still some 60s type musos+ disco music was good
80s computer music punk rock was ok but standards aloof with crap i mean rap music
90s virtually gave up except for supergrass,silverchair,and the grunge kings nirvana
2000s started listening to safm for the first time in about 15 years, some good tunes again

I remember saying this in the 80-90s

Without a 'shadows' of doubt 60s music was the best by a mile

I brilliant melody, riff or progression of any kind is brilliant in any form/style/genre of music.

Britney Spears isn't in my listening, although "Hit Me Baby One More Time" is consistently in the top 100 lists of "best songs" voted by songwriters.

What I love about music, is the intangible part that makes you like something. On one hand I love extremely complex songs and on the other hand, the completely simple, stripped back songs. The nature of the song isn't why I do or don't like it, but rather that intangible aspect.

Add to that, who you are as a person, and at what time in your life it is. Experiences. Emotions. Hearing a song for the first time at a pivotal time in your life can make you more susceptible and accepting of it.
