It's been 17 years in the making and costing 13 million dollars the most expensive album ever made but finally the long awaited follow up to the Illusion Albums will be released on the 23rd November. Gone are Slash, Duff, Izzy and the drummers - Matt & Steve. Remaining is just Axl and a group of nobodies. Of the 14 tracks listed on the album I've heard 11 in some sort of form. Will this album spell the end of Axl Rose or will it be the masterpiece that he has talked it up to be?

Track Listing
01. Chinese Democracy
02. Shackler's Revenge
03. Better
04. Street Of Dreams
05. If The World
06. There Was A Time
07. Catcher N' The Rye
08. Scraped
09. Riad N' The Bedouins
10. Sorry
11. I.R.S.
12. Madagascar
13. This I Love
14. Prostitute

"Gone are Slash, Duff, Izzy and the drummers - Matt & Steve."

In other words it's an Axl Rose solo album

yeah, the others (former band members) should sue him, & the fans should too- where's the corporate watchdogs now?
This is not a Guns n Roses album!

Mind you I didn;t think much of Use Your Illusions 1 & 2- one of the biggest disappointments ever!
Appetite For Destruction is an elite album- end of story, amen.

Use Your Illusion would have been just as good as Appetite if it had been a single album.
It became overblown and as pretentious as Axl has.

IIRC I heard Axl,whilst all the others were in some form of drug induced stuper managed to get them all to sign over the name "Guns'N'Roses" to him, therefore making every band he ever chose to front could call themselves GnR. This waiver also included the royalties from a certain date onwards, once again, IIRC this is rapidly approaching.

Correct to an extent there Booney. I don't think they were in a complete stupor, but those lads wouldn't have been clean for more than 5 seconds since turning 12. But my understanding is it was Slash and Duff who were fed up with Axl's psychotic behavior and rants the led them to just sign over the name for almost nothing. In a recent program on the Gunners, Slash said he was sick to death of Axl's shit and was happy to walk away for the peace.

The sad thing is, they'll never get back together because they can't stand Axl. It's a shame really, but it was brilliant while it lasted. I think anything they do from now will taint the gunners name. I've heard the majority of the billing listed above and while I appreciate bits of it, I doubt it will still be on my playlist in 20 years time like Appetite and UYI's are.

Brilliant while it lasted? The Gunners had one decent album and a handful of reasonable songs of other discs to add to it. Slash is the stand out member and others such as Izzy Straddlin just weren't that strong. Some of their live material is too bad to be believed.

Personal opinions. I'm a Gunners nut, so I loved Lies, AFD and both UYI's. I think their live album is the business, as are their 2 UYI videos taken while in Japan I believe.

IIRC CP went to a Gunners UYI conert in the 90'2 in Sydney. Correct me if I'm wrong Connie.

I'm sure you could dig up some rubbish live stuff from almost any band. I'll admit that the Gunners had more than their fair share, owing to drug abuse, riots etc, etc. But I stand but my initial call that it was birilliant while it lasted and I for one would pay silly money to see the true GNR (Axl, Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum) live one more time. It would be magic provided there were no riots or drug binges prior.

Early 90's at Calder Park in Vic mate, and they were sensational, just simply awesome ... I used to play the UYI video they shot in Japan all the time and loved that too and like yourself, if I could go back in time I'd pay way over the odds to see them again.

I still enjoyed the concert Axl put on last year although that was probably more for the nostalgic component.

Yeah, I'd still enjoy seeing the Axl show too.
My vid of the UYI 1 concert from Japan doesn't work anymore from being overplayed. My Mum HATES the Gunners because of that vid it got played that much!
Gotta love the world of bit-torrents!

Wasn't that Calder concert the place you saw the bloke with breast implants? I think I permanently damaged my sinuses laughing when I heard about that!

Ditto. Am a massive Gunners fan. I have about 40 or so bootlegs which I've purchased over Ebay over the years. REB FYI Izzy wrote the majority of Gunners songs. The guy single handedly wrote Appetite whilst the rest of the band was wasted. Slash came up with the solo's but Izzy was primarily responsible for all the riffs and songwriting. I too would pay a lot of money to see the original band play live again.

OK, I've given this a couple of run throughs on the Zen and IMO, they've come up with a very good album, given the absence of Slash, Duff and Matt.

There's also a great ad on TV over here for the new album. It starts with a burst of 'Sweet Child of Mine', then goes through a short clip of iconic pictures of events each year up to 2008. It say's 'the most anticipated album of all time' (hrmmmm, most expensive, most delayed maybe, but not the most anticipated for anyone but us die hard Gunners fans) then breaks out with the start of the title track where Axl chimes in with his trademark squeal and 'it don't really matter'.....LOVE IT!

Anyone else had a listen? Thoughts?
