Ha! I saw the same newsbreak and thought 'who the hell was she???'

Still there's not much going on in the world at present (only the Russian/Georgian conflict, the world's biggest sporting spectacle, etc, etc)...

Anyone over 40 that says they've never heard of her is lying. Like her or loathe her she was EVERYWHERE in 1979/1980.
Terry Brittain (an old Adelaide lad and member of The Twilights) wrote most of her songs.

Apparently there is a little "to do" in Tibet as well. Well there was up until last Friday night anyway. Seems to have been forgotten now. Probably just as well.

Goosebumps was one of the worst songs - and there were a lot around that time.

If you followed popular music around that time you would know this song, and then remember Christie Allen - it's still in my head after 29 years and I was only 8 or 9 at the time

Southee, where are you? You're a massive Countdown fan...

As Molly would say, 'do yourself a favour' and give us the low down on this supposed music star...

Can't believe some have not heard of her....great female artist from late 70's/early 80's.

Love GOOSEBUMPS (I have it on my iPod!!). Its a very catchy little tune. The song was huge in Adelaide too. I think it charted the highest out of all captial cities in Australia at the time.

RIP Christie!!!!!xx

Christie Allen (12 September 1954 - 12 August 2008[1]) was an English-born pop singer who had a successful career as a recording artist in her adopted homeland Australia.

Allen was performing with a band in Perth when she came to the attention of songwriter and record producer Terry Britten after virtually knocking on his door, according to an interview she gave on Sounds. Britten, a former member of The Twilights, had previously worked with Cliff Richard and would go on to write "What's Love Got To Do With It" for Tina Turner. Impressed by Allen's vocal ability and bubbly personality, he began working with her and a recording contract with Mushroom Records resulted.

Her first three singles from her debut album Magic Rhythm were substantial hits. The first single was a ballad "Falling In Love With Only You", reaching number 20 in 1979. Her next two singles were strongly influenced by the popular disco style - "Goosebumps" reached number 3 in 1979, and "He's My Number One" reached number 4 in 1980. With sales of 60,000, "Goosebumps" would be Allen's greatest success and was one of Mushroom Record's highest selling singles at that time.

Allen was voted the country's most popular female performer at the Countdown Awards in 1979 and 1980.

Allen was also the voice and star of the commercials for the soft drink Tarino.

In 1980 and 1981 Christie Allen released a handful of singles - "Switchboard", "Baby Get Away" and "Don't Put Out The Flame" - from her second and final album Detour, produced by John Hudson, but they were only mildly successful. Terry Britten had now moved on and was having success with Tina Turner and also writing songs for The Pirate Movie starring Kristy McNichol. A long illness prevented Allen from adequately promoting her career and she subsequently retired. By the 1990s she had resumed her singing career and performed as a vocalist with country music bands. She appeared in a televised tribute concert for the Mushroom record label singing "Goosebumps".

Allen was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2008 and died at her home in country Western Australia on 12 August 2008. [2]

I'm old enough to remember - and LIKE  - Christie Allen. There was more to her than Goosebumps. Anyone remember "he's my number one"?

He's a classic example, such a beautiful sample
He's my number one
He's the love that I treasure, it should go on forever
He's my number one
Clowns OUT. Smears OUT. RESIST THE OCCUPATION.
