Kylie's best asset

Postby Pseudo » Wed Oct 17, 2007 7:40 am

Last week I went to the Kelvingrove museum in Glasgow. In the basement they had a KYLIE exhibition, featuring outfits worn by the pop diva herself in many of her videos and stage performances, and lotsa promotional photos, gold/platinum records, etc. Pride of place (at least, to my male chauvinist brain) was that hooded number with the low cleavage featured in this video...

Now I've never been an enormous fan of the singing budgie but her longevity in the industry is certainly testament to her assets as an entertainer. Now I'm just wondering, how many other of you think that one asset in particular stands head and shoulders above all the others? Vote away my fine feathered friends, let's settle this once and for all.

God I miss the football season.

Her brains are probably her best asset - Kylie is smart enough to consistently choose good producers & co writers, beyond that I'm not too sure. I do certainly cringe every time she opens her gob and that mongrel accent comes out. But I see where you're coming from Pseudo, there are not many 'artistes' who could claim to be as consistent as her over the years (consistently crap I'm sure some wags will note) without repeating herself too often. Her remixes are almost always poptastic. I dig her new tune , trashy in a Goldfrapp kind of way and totally not the soppy ballad you might expect from someone just having dealt with breast cancer.

Come on, who didn't wish they were Jason Donovan in the late 80s when they went off holidaying together in Bali??? and Kylie got photo-ed topless and Neighbours spin machine went completely ballistic. Then a year or two later she turned up topless on film. Every boy in Australia 13-20 at the time was glued to her every move.

Don't know if you guys in Adelaide get it so much in the press over there, but over here in Melbourne it's "Our Kylie this" and "Our kylie that". Bloody sick of it.

magpie in the 80's wrote:MAL was being interviewed by RAY MARTIN, and bragged that despite his 72 years of age, he could still have sex three times a night. Kylie Minogue, who was also a guest, looked intrigued.

After the show, Kylie said, "MAL, if I am not being too forward, I’d love to have sex with an older man. Let’s go back to my place."

So they go back to her place and have great sex. Afterwards, MAL says, "If you think that was good, let me sleep for half an hour, and we can have even better sex. But while I’m sleeping, hold my balls in your left hand and my dick in your right hand." Kylie looks a bit perplexed, but says, "Okay". MAL sleeps for half an hour, awakens, and they have even better sex.

Then MAL says, "Kylie, that was wonderful. But if you let me sleep for an hour, we can have the best sex yet. But again, hold my balls in your left hand, and my dick in your right hand." Kylie is now used to the routine and complies. The results are mind blowing.

Once it’s all over, and the cigarettes are lit, Kylie asks "MAL, tell me, does my holding your balls in my left hand and your dick in my right stimulate you while you’re sleeping?" MAL replies, "No, but the last time I slept with a slut from Melbourne, she STOLE MY WALLET!!!!!!!!!!"

Ahh yes, the psuedo music intelligentsia speak and haughtily mock the singing talents of a popular music artist and the people who like and appreciate the "pop" song including the different facets and musical crafts that go into composing a tight, lyrical well crafted song in the popular genre

it can't be any good because it is played on top 40 and mature age radio stations. Real music officianados listen to RRR, DDD and JJJ.

Maybe it is: verse chorus verse chorus insturment solo over the verse chord progression repeat chorus et al in the coda and as a rule and there is a music publicity machine behind it, the fact reamins Kylie is survivor (you don't last 20 years in teh music industry if you don't: a) have talent and b) know and recognise good songs.

All the publicity in the world aint going to sustain a musical career if you can't sing and you ain't got talent - Scandal'us anyone, Melissa etc i.e. of teh myriad of teenage singing soap opera stars that try to make it.

Kylie is good at what she does and has a career because she has got talent and does what all good musos do work on it and evolve. Do you really think Nick Cave would want to potentially ruin his reputation by singing with Kylie if she wasn't any good?

My final point is yes it is simple and gues what simple works, some of the great song s of the modern era and indeed through music history are classics because of their simplicity, The Beatles , Roy Orbison etc all amde careers based on simple tight pop songs backed by their own talent. I'm not going to sit and say she is as good as them but that is no different to home modern metal bands follow the formula set down by Black Sabbath and alternative music some say has it influences from cool pop of America and the beach Boys which mixed american folk music with jazz which led to band such as REM and Sound garden etc.

My point is music is varied and comes from many influences and styles. The Origins if the modern Pop song (kylie) are the same as modern alternative music. So don't mock those of us who like it just because it is more - as the title of the genre says - "popular"
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
