Agreed guys, I used to listen to JJJ religiously but stopped listening to the radio at work about 4 years ago, bought one again this year just to get back into the groove of JJJ and have been ultra disappointed. Still listen to Jay and the Dr in the morning as the crap on other stations like Fatso and Lemon or MMMs morning POO is unbearable to me.
Thank christ for mp3 players is all I can say.

I've never listened to JJJ, not been one for Radio at all really, however this has changed since being on the road all day- I listen to Nova, & channel surf, but if everyone's playing crap, then I'll listen to Nova's crap. Hottest 100's are JJJ's favourite sons, not songs- the artists that are "in" only have to fart to get air-time... (eg Ben Lee)
PS I do respect that the fact they were ground-breaking, I just wasn't born then

Haven't heard triple J for a few years but it was great about ten years back.The song "I'm an Asshole" By Denis Leary apparently got no play time in the U.S. Every American I have spoken to HAS heard of Denis Leary and most think he is geat, but I have not met one American who knows anything about the song "I'm an Asshole." Although most laugh when I sing it to them.
When I came to this realisation I understood the power JJJ weilded back in the day.

And every DJ stood for something and was recognisable by the music they played. The jocks they have today stand for nothing, are annoying, giggly, faceless and lack musical knowledge. Like everything else in this world that is good, JJJ has been dumbed down for the idiot masses.

I used to work at 3D Radio and have fond memories but to be a true alternative they need to sharpen up their act a bit and get some focus. I'd like to support it more but the announcers sound like, and no doubt are, on drugs.

And yes, I realise these two arguments contradict themselves somewhat. There needs to be some middle ground.

It was just after the whole NWA "F*** the police" that JJJ started it's slow decline. The announcers from that period were all sacked or left and replaced with such knowledgable folk as Catriona Rountree Francis Leach who did the morning show for ages was an exception but now sadly he is also long gone.

Last year I graduated from the same institution (yep, left myself wide open there) where a hell of a lot of these FM presenters learn their trade.

Sad thing is - what you hear on the radio isn't an act. By and large, that is their true self.

Maybe my mind's playing tricks on me, but I definitely remember JJJ - 'radio with bite' - losing it's 'bite' after the NWA fiasco. Stopped listening soon after.

Especially when they started verbally masturbating on air (and always over Public Enemy.)

Pretty much a commercial station now anyway. Last time I flicked stations, they played Missy Higgins and Ben Lee back-to-back.

It was a 90-minute loop of songs including stuff like Black Box's "Ride On Time" and Severed Heads' "Big Car". Unfortunately after a week or 2 the station opened and the wanky DJs began beating their gums, thus beginning JJJ's swift ride to the bottom of the heap. Radio made by recent post-pubescents for a mostly pre-pubescent audience. Heck, I'd rather listen to Bob "shut up dickbrain" Francis!

No but I remember The Replacements "Alex Chilton" was part of it - great track.
