U2 @ AAMI Stadium

Who of you are heading to this on the 28th March?
I got my seat, high up on the wing in the C-Reserve section. Unfortunately I left it a couple of hours too long to book!
Did anyone else get better seats?
Anyone going to any of the other shows around Australia??

When I told my hairdresser, who is going to the concert, that Kanye West was the support act in Melbourne for U2, she was horrified.
Oh well, like him or not, it is only the undercard and I'm pretty sure it was only for the Melbourne show anyway.

Yeah, general admission for me. Not sure I'm excited like I should be - don't rate them like I used to and found their last few albums fairly safe & by the numbers. Still, I figured it might be the last time and all that... Saw them at Memorial Drive (ace!) & Footy Park (rubbish sound & atmos). At Footy Park they had an OZ support act (Kim Salmon, poor guy never stood a chance) as well as international (B.A.D.).

So who do you reakon the local support will be? Hope it's Missy. I'm gonna start collection rocks...



PS Why would anyone want to sit in a seat at a U2 concert???

Remember when Bono grabbed that chick and danced with her at Memorial drive zipper? Not a bad show that one with the great BB King on stage as well. Still, not as much fun as the 'riot' AC/DC gig at Globe Derby....

He did that 'spontaneous' act at every gig on that tour (and often still does). I kind of spoilt the FP show for myself having devoured every bootleg of the tour, so I pretty much knew every track that was coming, the 'spontaneous' call to Cornsey, the little acoustic bit. I was more disappointed cos Achtung & Zooropa are my favourite U2 albums and the concert was a bit soulless I thought. Maybe I was just tired having lined up since 6:30 am....

I've become a bit more cyncial about U2 as I have grown more musically educated I guess - NOTHING they do is EVER spontaneous. Especially in a stadium setting. Doesn't mean they don't put on a great show though

The 89 tour was great (though I cringe now at Rattle & Hum and the whole faux-blues period). Has good memories for me - it was right at the end of Year 12 exams, we went and listened to the first show on the banks of the Torrens and went the next night. Awesome shows, wish the Drive was used more often.

U2 are probably one of the most boring bands of all time. Bono uses the fact that he's the front man of this group to preach and be political.....hey, no one cares Bono....shut up, take those glasses off and do what you apparently do best and thats sing! I pity anyone who has paid the rediculous prices they are asking for their shows, if I were going, I'd be asleep by the 2nd song.
U2= BORING, BORING BAND! The only reason everyone is going is that we miss out on many big international acts touring Australia.
CLAUSE - Of course, this is my own opinion and I can understand why people would want to go, ie - The Snouts Louts cos they are boring aswell.

You know what? I kinda agree with you in a way - U2, especially lately, are a bit worthy, conservative & dull. Any band that is that popular is bland by it's very nature. And Nobo can be embarassing when he opens his gob.

But...BUT...U2 LIVE are a different kettle of fish. They are capable of making you soar like no other (maybe not at AAMI stadium however) and when they are on song it is as life-affirming and as spiritually uplifting as anything this side of the Paradise Community Centre. Not many bands can tap into that. I reakon, from my gig-going days, only the Oils at their peak came close.

Fair enough, I know what its like to see a band that has been around for a while and appears to become bland and boring but the live experience is what it's about.
Therefore, I have stuck my foot in it again have'nt I? I retract my comments on U2 performing live, it probably wouldnt be boring but I still wont be going, hope those who go enjoy themselves.
