Talking about things you don't like is overrated.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Not sure if it's overrated, but I just don't get most of it.

Actually now I think about it, it's the hype that's overrated, not the song/artist.

I love Hanson.

I tend to think we 'get' music from our generation, more so than others. Hell knows I'm still on a 1990s trip...

I 100% agree about your hype statement. I think that calling something 'overhyped' as opposed to 'overrated' is way more fitting. We should change the title of the thread to that.

I think there is more music that is underrated than is overrated. By almost 100 to 1.

90's is my favourite era (inclusive of the start of the 2000s)
Followed by the 70s
Then 60s
Then 50s
Then 40s
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Exactly, I think some people have got confused with this topic.

Some bands have songs that were/are massive and very popular but I think they have much better material than that particular song, eg. Hey Jude as TSG just posted, All the Small Things, Satisfaction and Bohemian Rhapsody.

I like those songs and will always sing along to them but I think The Beatles, Blink, Stones and Queen have better songs than those examples.

Yes, I agree.

Massive Pearl Jam fan - but I really can't stand listening to Betterman more than once every two years.

I don't really like Satisfaction either. Middle of the road song.

Don't really like "finite" lists of best songs anyway. So subjective.

I remember Eddie Vedder saying something when they won video of the year for Jeremy - mentioned he wasn't sure how you could judge art.

Spot on, and Daughter too. Rearviewmirror is totally underrated though.

I don't consider metal as 80s I guess.
I was more so thinking of that definite "80s" style.
I do love metal though.
I was probably tarring the 80s with too large of a brush.

Daughter is better than Betterman, but yes.

Reason I do like daughter is that I believe it's a sequel to RVM.
(I wrote about it on a Pearl Jam mailing list in the late 90s)

My guilty pleasure is listening to my vinyl copy of the Daughter single.

But only because I play the live version of Yellow Ledbetter over and over again.

"We're gettin' Yellow Ledbetter requests, we could play that..."

Pearl Jam is my favourite band, love them to death and while I like Betterman I think it is overrated, they have better songs than it. I find myself always skipping it when it comes on my Ipod.

Agreed. What about Hail, Hail? That song should've been HUGE.

My favourite Black Sabbath album is easily Born Again , but it's largely underrated.

I remember that, saw it on a PJ doco or PJ20 maybe. He hated it, left everyone quite shocked from memory.
