We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Bloody Beetroots will be nuts

Also, the chance to catch LCD Soundsystem before they split is too good a chance to turn down.

When do tickets go on sale?

Birds of Tokyo headlining!!!

Seriously, what a terrible line-up.

Tool, Rammstein.. is this Soundwave?

The Aussie Acts are good, but the international acts are poor to say the least.

$150 staying in my pocket.

And this post sums up all that is wrong with the current BDO attendees. It has turned into a lollipop festival for teeny boppers. I bet you never attended a BDO in the late 90's or early 2000's ? And only started going once it was commercialised with bands getting SAFM airplay.

This is not a personal attack on you by the way.

I remember a conversation my ex and I had on the way out from the first Big Day Out that no one on the bill had got SA-FM airplay (to that point anyway - Feb 93) and it proved that alternative music had a healthy market away from the mainstream. Mind you things turned to shit (IMO anyway) in the mid-90s when Triple J started playing Alternative Muzak.

Ah memories. The days when you missed good stuff because you couldn't get from one stage to the other in time.

If it were bands getting SAFM airplay it'd be Justin Bieber, Ke$ha etc...
I hate SAFM.
Triple J is awesome.

Which of the bands on the list are getting regular SAFM airplay?

This years line-up was awesome. A good mix of Aussie acts and the international acts were actually good.

John Butler Trio, Wolfmother, Birds of Tokyo, LCD SOundsystem to name a few...

Black Eyed Peas, Hilltop Hoods, Muse, Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe, Lilly Allen, Groove Armada etc from last year.

The festival has changed.....and definitely for the worse. In my opinion of course.

This argument comes up every year.

I still rate the BDO. What other festival in Adelaide allows me to walk from watching a prog-electro band like Crystal Castles to a prog-metal band like Tool?

Diversity is it's key. Who gives a shit if bands like LCD Soundsystem or Bloody Beetroots are getting mainstream airplay, it doesn't make these bands any less awesome.

First of all. Triple J plays most of these bands songs before anyone else. A song or two from an album becomes popular, then it gets played and played and played and played on SAFM.

Birds of Tokyo only have 1 song played on SAFM.. That is Plans, which is one of their average songs on the album. I bet most people dont even know they have two other albums, which both have way better songs than plans on them.

The only reason it has changed for the worse is because next year they have got poor international acts. The Aussie contingent is pretty good. Definitely a few good up and coming bands in there.

Dude I know all about Triple J and their unearthing of new tracks before other stations.

And yep, the same people would probably have no idea who Karnivool are either.

The difference though is that it was ONLY Triple J playing the bands at the BDO back then. Making it far more alternative and less mainstream. Crowd numbers would also support this.

And 3d, RRR, ZZZ etc. Also that was back in the day that Richard Kingsmill's taste wasn't up his own arse.
