The Living End ‘The Ending Is Just The Beginning Repeating’
The biggest band in the land, THE LIVING END return with their new album “THE ENDING IS JUST THE BEGINNING REPEATING”
“Six albums. Each one, a milestone: The time we thought we were indestructible. The time we lit a fire under the establishment. The time we wondered if it was all worth it. No.6, if we put it under the microscope, is the album that hunts down the truth, asks the big questions and demands answers”. THE ENDING IS JUST THE BEGINNING REPEATING is THE LIVING END’s most honest album yet.
Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Andy Strachan have always forged their own path, irrespective of passing fads, haircuts, and any vogue for keytar-wielding debutantes. Their songs require of the listener a social conscience and mosh pit stamina, and give in return a visceral experience that’s flawlessly executed. It’s this attitude that’s earned the band platinum platitudes.
www.thelivingend.com PNAU ‘Soft Universe’
Soft Universe, the new album by the Australian duo PNAU, is the finest example yet of their epic electro pop. The faster, more up-tempo tracks - using their best-known songs to date, ‘Embrace’ and ‘With You Forever’ as the template – are their most accessible and uplifting ventures yet into the territory of supercharged anthemica.
But it is far from an album of club bangers: Soft Universe is a pop record in the traditional sense, one that sees PNAU’s Peter Mayes and Nick Littlemore branching out into classic song craft, including subtly orchestrated ballads. It bears the influence not just of Empire Of The Sun, Nick’s award-winning, commercially successful project with Luke Steele, but of Bowie and Bono and Burt Bacharach as well as PNAU’s new mentor, Elton John. It feels big, ambitious, expansive – like a musical composed by U2, arranged by Prince and Giorgio Moroder, and based on the songs of Taupin and John.

"Joss can sing with the ferocity of a lioness and dynamically switch to the most delicate whisper in the same phrase," says Stewart. "She is always honest and full of real emotion. It is an honor to work alongside a true artist who understands so much at such a young age."

www.redcoatsmusic.com The Idea of North ‘Extraordinary Tale’
Last year they won an ARIA Best Jazz Album Award for their collaboration with James Morrison, but now in 2011 Australia’s leading a cappella vocal quartet The Idea of North has returned to their roots with the sublime Extraordinary Tale, an album that can melt the heart and dazzle the senses.
‘Extraordinary Tale is an instrument-free zone,’ jokes the group’s alto Naomi Crellin who did many of the arrangements of hits like Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, Sting’s La Belle Dame Sans Regrets and The Beatles’ In My Life. ‘Our fans loved the previous album where we used a full band for the first time, but this time we’ve gone back to our concert repertoire and the songs that are requested time and time again by our fans.’
It’s in the gorgeous, rich vocal sound of the full ensemble where The Idea of North always shines. Tracks like Stevie Wonder’s Never Dreamed You’d Leave In Summer and Sinead O’Connor’s In This Heart are particularly moving, and the artwork for the album will inevitably capture attention as well.

Bringing with them every feeling of vice and ecstasy, the record is set to become the sound of a dystopian summer with their innately brooding beat and sordid-pop edge. The four-piece, consisting of producer/musicians Dinamo Azari and Alixander III with vocalists Fritz Helder and Starving Yet Full, have crafted a defining sound that relishes in its references while maintaining a future perspective.
www.azariandiii.com Boy & Bear ‘Moonfire’
When your first EP wins you accolades like Rolling Stone’s Artist To Watch of 2010 and Triple J’s Unearthed Artist of the Year, not to mention wooing fans the world over – including the likes of Laura Marling and Marcus Mumford, no less – there’s only one thing you can do for your debut album: confound expectations.
After the success of their 2010 EP, With Emperor Antarctica – which transformed the Sydney quintet from promising new comers to bonafide international sensations, helping them land two songs in Triple J's 2010 Hottest 100, including their critically acclaimed cover of Crowded House’s “Fall at Your Feet” – Boy & Bear found themselves perfectly placed to take things to the next level for their first full-length effort, the freshly minted Moonfire.
Moonfire sees Boy & Bear shift effortlessly into darker, deeper moods, building huge atmospheres that owe as much to the intensity of bands like the National and Arcade Fire as they do to the sonic adventurousness of classic artists like Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

www.alfredomalabello.com Elixir featuring Katie Noonan ‘First Seed Ripening’
The best brews take time. And that’s certainly the case with Elixir. The luscious, subtle trio return to the stage this year in support of a new studio album, their first in eight years.
Elixir is a trio of friends and musicians -- multi-platinum selling songstress Katie Noonan, outstanding saxophonist Zac Hurren and the highly-regarded jazz guitarist Stephen Magnusson, who joined the team in 2005. Each artist brings to the project an individual style and potency. The result is an improvised folk and jazz-inspired blend of music.
Life and music has moved forward for the band members since Elixir issued their self-titled debut, a top 20 national hit following its release in 2003. But there’s been no need to rush. The three artists each pursued their own personal musical ambitions, the seeds of which will be sown on the return to the studio. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, Elixir has always been about poetry, set to music.
