Despite the sh!t position of stage 1 A/B and the overwheling amount of people there yesterday I had a pretty good day yesterday. It was f**king packed!!!

The Offspring and Flogging Molly were my two highlights for the day, that's who I went to see and I wasn't disappointed. :D

Me and a mate were lucky enough to find a decent enought spot to watch Blink and they were pretty good I thought, was great to see them live. Would prefer to see them in a concert though if that ever happens.

I watched the first half of Metallica and they were really good and also saw a bit Anthrax, Stone Sour and Sum 41 but was back a fair distance for Sum 41 because it was so packed. Watched Linkin Park before Metallica and enjoyed their set despite not being a huge fan of them.

Something that made me laugh is while watching Metallica and The Offspring me, my mate and the older dudes around us stood there arms in the air/ arms around one another and absolutely belted out the songs while all the young girls around us just stood there with there phones out recording the whole time, not singing a word. You could tell they no NFI what they were listening too.

Apparantley Blink were a lot better the week before in a standalone gig at Brisbane.
Offspring sounded good and my son loved Linkin Park.
Glad I saved my pennies for the FMF next week though. Hopefully Sound wave has some headliners who I prefer next year.

It was ridiculously packed. We tried to get from Stage 2A after Sum 41 to Stage 3 to see Killswitch Engage and had to push through the Blink crowd. Took **** ages. While I was doing that I took note of how crap Blink are live. I saw them in 2005 at the Ent Centre and they were amazing, but yesterday they werent a big drawcard for me. The songs didnt sound very good and the banter in between was just stupid. Not funny anymore.

My day consisted of starting with Miss May I, who was one of the bands I wanted to see most. They rocked the **** out of the place and introduced us to the "marathon pit". Its a circle pit that goes around the sound tent at the back.

After that we went to see Stone Sour on Stage 1 which was amazing. Im a huge fan of them, even though Im not a big Slipknot person. There set was very tight and sounded brilliant live.

Straight from there we got lunch and then saw Billy Talent on 2A, then stuck around there for Flogging Molly on 2B, then Sum 41 on 2A again.

Then on to Killswitch at Stage 3 which we missed most of because we had to push through the Blink crowd and walk a kilometer.

Then back to Stage 2A for Paramore, which was mainly for the missus, but they are actually really good live, and Hayley gave me a rager. She works it

Then there was a big decision to be made. We wanted to see Bring Me The Horizon and Amity. But they were both on Stage 3 and we would have to go through the Metallica crowd, half way through their set, at night....**** THAT!!

I wanted to see Chunk! No Captain Chunk anyway, so we went to Stage 4 and there were only about 100 peeps there, so we chilled out, sat on the grass about 20m from the stage and had some mung while we watched them. They are an amazing band and I felt bad for them for being put in a tough timeslot to draw a decent crowd. They're a relatively unknown band from Frances almost non-existant hardcore scene, and they were put on against Metallica, Offspring and Amity.

Really enjoyed the day but **** me am I sunburnt.

Started the day watching the last 20 mins of Red Fang (thanks TSG) who were good.
Saw a bit of Miss May I (What a crap stage that was in terms of location) and they were OK, saw the marathon pit as described by HH3 crazy stuff

Then went to see Stone Sour who were very good, really enjoyed their set.
Have been a fan of Billy Talent for a while and this was the 1st time I saw them live and they were great, highlight of the day for me.

Then we took a 2hr break at Stage 5 were there was some shade and a bar with no line up
Saw Killswitch Engage at the undercover stage which was very pleasant they were heavy.

Then it was onto Linkin Park and they were sensational played all there classics and really enjoyed it.
Saw about 1hr or so of Metallica and they were good.
Finally ended the night seeing The Amity Affliction and they didn't disappoint and I loved their song open letters to finish off.

Had a great day just wish it wasn't as packed, there was loads of people everywhere and wasn't that sun brutal.

Stone Sour
The Vandals
Slayer
Confession
Flogging Molly
Sum 41
Bullet for my Valentine
Blink 182
Linkin Park
Metallica

I got around and saw a few that I wouldn't normally have, but really enjoyed.

Stone Sour to start the day were awesome live, great mixing, and really good show. I'll be after some of their albums for sure.

The Vandals are always good, seen them before. Flogging Molly saw most of their set, hard not to move around when they play. Sum 41, some good skatey punk.

Confession - - The highlight of my day. Seeing my 16 1/2 year old son getting absolutely steam rolled in the circle pit at the start of Confession set. Crazy bastards. He and his mates, all around that age, they love it. Good on 'em.

Blink, as noted, talk crap between songs that just isn't funny. Musically they were good, but not great.

Linkin Park, know a bit of their stuff but not a huge fan, really impressed me. Good mixing, good set, one of the unexpected highlights for me.

Metallica played a really old set of songs. Loved it.

metallica seemed as if it wouldve been nuts, wish i went from paramore to metallica.

so many people watchin from outside aswell.

I didnt know that but I did see someone in a Blink Soundwave Tour t-shirt which listed 3 shows for Melbourne including March 2nd, even though March 2nd Soundwave was in Adelaide. My missus was just yelling "MISPRINT!!" in his general direction for the whole time we were watching Billy Talent

It said -

Brisbane
Sydney
Sydney
Melbourne
Melbourne
Melbourne
Perth

Poor bastard. He'll be devo when he gets home and looks at the back of his t-shirt.

Anthrax
Stone Sour
Vandals
Sylosis
Kyuss Lives
Slayer
*Dodgy Nandos Burger*
Killswitch Engage
Last half of Blink
Linkin Park
Metallica

Highlights- Metallica, Killswitch Engage and Sylosis.
Lowlights- Dodgy Nandos Burger, Walking to Stage 3 (as discussed here prior to the event, was always gonna suck, and it did)

Metallicas set was awesome- I dont think anything after the Black album was played. Fade to Black would have completed my night!
I felt for Slayer, the old boys in the heat of the day were still good but I reckon they were struggling!
Killswitch Engage (when I finally got there!) were great, Jesse handled the Howard era songs pretty well I thought. Pretty funny when the barrier at the front broke- until it took about 10 minutes to fix....
Was great to hear some Kyuss songs live- own the albums but havent managed to catch them until now.
All the bands I saw were pretty good I thought, no massive sound issues which have plagued some stages at soundwave before.

Sylosis were absolutely brilliant. Shame they were hidden away on Stage 5. Seeing this song nailed note for note a definite highlight!

Id never heard of Sylosis before, but we were chilling out under the trees near that stage and they are pretty amazing. Sounded like I was listening to a CD they were that good live.

I didnt realise Jesse was back with Killswitch. I was expecting to see Howard and was thinking whos this white boy

So has Howard left? Or was this just a fill in gig for Jesse?

Howard got crook and is unable to tour (although other rumours are out there). Jesse is back permanently, new album out next month.

The first single is out in Youtube land (In Due Time) and sounds pretty good!
