Or because Skid Row (used to love them) and Tattoo were the support act the last time they toured??

Speaking of which, did any/many people here get to Calder Park or wherever it was they played in Sydney in the early 90's?

Yeah i was at the Calder Park show. Was a classic. Had to wait hours after skid row for the gunners to come on as axl wouldnt go on stage until it was dark. Where you there?

I'm possibly the biggest gunners (and not that shitty football team) fan alive and have been waiting my whole life for them to return (was only 12yo when they were here last).

I cant believe they are coming back, and I'm moving to the UK in 4 weeks!!!!!

Still, GNFNRS are not the same chop without Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum. Despite being a fair tool, AXL puts on an amazing show, and from what I've seen in vids/DVDs, it would be worth the coin to see him.

REB, I agree with your wrap on Appettite and the Spaghetti Incident, but Lies and UYIx2 were f***ing AWESOME. I still play Gunners almost every day (sad I know, but haven't found anything even close to being better) usually Appettite and UYI's.

Best tracks IMO:

1. Sweet Child - My current ringtone. GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME
2. Paradise City
3. Rocket Queen
4. November Rain
5. Civil War

Honourable mentions:

Back off Bitch
Estranged
One in a Million
Don't Damn Me
Yesterdays

Sorry for the long post, but gee I love GNR and will be shattered to miss them regardless of Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum missing!

And also the long delay due to strong wind. They vacated the stage coz of the fear the wind would blow it over.
The mud sliding in the general section kept people amussedduring the break.
A bad part of the day was Bob Jane turning of the water supply and charging $2 for a cup of tap water.

Wasn't that due to the fact that Axl believed all good bands started late?

I recall seeing a tour poster from the mid 80's where a GNR show started at 11pm with a caption along the lines of 'the best bands play late'.

Yeah we were there mate, despite the fact we couldn't get a beer anywhere in the place it was a great day/night .. The memories have become vaguer by the year but I recall:

1. People going down due to heat exhaustion.
2. Angry spitting the chewy over something and going off.
3. Fears the wind would get worse and the remainder of the show would be called off.
4. Some bloke with breast implants walking around topless .. WTF!!
5. My joy was confirmed when they announced that the Dallas Cowboys had won the Superbowl
6. A torrential downpour
7. Dudes sliding down the mud on a hill for hours
8. Dudes walking around hours later when it was hot again covered in dry mud from head to toe!
9. Sitting on top of a closed fast food van or outlet to watch an AWESOME main show
10. Sharing some cake a thoughtful member of our bus had given to everyone on the ride home - must have been loaded with Sugar or something because everyone was in stitches on the ride home.

We caught a bus home the following day.
The bus station was full of GnR fans.
I think 5 bus loads for Adelaide and Perth alone

Yeah i remember the guys sliding down the mud hills on the side and the wind. i remember walking home along calder freeway and watching guys hanging onto the back of semi tailers as they went down the highway so they didnt have to walk. One of the best shows i have seen, Up there with Fear Factory at the bridgeway years ago and Iron Maiden at Festival Hall in 92, classics

Just a word of advice guys/gals, good ol Ax hasnt had a very good track record in recent times in turning up to his appointments. If you buy tickets, make sure you can get a refund when he cancels.....u have been warned!
BTW, is the new album out that he's been working on since 1990-something? I read a very interesting article late last year/ early this year in one of the weekend's newspapers about Ax and his make believe band. The guy is a freak but most talented rich people are I suppose. Good luck to those who are hanging out to see Ax and his Gunners again, I wont be going cos I think they suck.

I've had a re-think about my post.

Best tracks:

1. ALL of them except those on the spaghetti incident

Thanks for pointing this out Booney!

In all seriousness though, I can't fit Mr B into my top 10 GNR tracks. Welcome to the Jungle is a very tough omission. It was voted best song for pumping iron by Muscle and fitness mag back in about Oct last year.

Don't know but it was an interesting article a few months back saying about the album you're talking about and how he started doing it before a lot of the technology that they use to produce albums now even existed and that he's spent some phenomonal amount of money on it already. I thought it was somewhere in the region of US$10 million plus.

I was inspired by this thread to revisit my youth so I downloaded the entire GnR catalogue today. PM me for the link if you too feel you can rip off Axl without losing a wink of sleep.

Anyway, I was struck by how crap the Use Your Illusion albums really are. The first one is a real stinker. The second is pompous and overblown, yet still kind of fun in a way. I deleted about half so at least I have one semi-decent album.

AFD was always genius however and on a par with the Cult's Electric for no-frills head-banging good times.

Slash's new band: Velvet Revolver is definetely worth a listen if you are like me and loved to the Gunners because of Slash.

His solo on the video clip of November Rain is one of the all time best...

Velvet Revolver put on a pretty damm good show a couple of years back at the Thebby, were really all showmen on the night and played hard, just what you pay for. (This said no one could get close to SLASH)

Saw that VR were playing Apollo here in London on Tuesday night.

Wish I'd known it was on earlier. I definately wasn't going to fork out the 250 quid the scalpers were asking!

Saw a bloke with long curley black hair, wearing a GNR T-Shirt with tight black jeans and Slash's trademark top hat with the silver decals. It looked classic, but for the other 364 days of the year that GNR or VR DONT play, he would look like a complete spastic! But hey, that's commitment!
