Booney wrote:Fantastic production, sound, lights and performance worthy of a world class act,and this is why,IMO they are the biggest band in the world at the moment.

"One" was perfect,Bono and The Edge sounding studio like with voice and lead breaks, just like the album version.

Bono trying to get every one to SMS your name to a 19 number to help save poverty was a little too commercial for one who appears to "stick it to the man" as often as he can, wonder who the carrier (service provider) was for the SMS grab?

THE BAR WAS SHUT!!!
Other than the bar being closed, had a great night seeing one of the worlds most accomplished bands perform live.

=D> =D> =D>

Good show, but I'm glad I didnt have to pay a cent to see it.

Dont get me wrong, U2 are a good band, but i think the play list was more desinged for your die hard fan as there were a few songs i hadnt heard before and thought they may have played more of the better known songs.. the show itself was fantastic, and I was lucky enough to see most of it even though i was working, also thought it got a bit political at times too...

Highlights for mine were ONE and watching aami stadium light up in a sea of mobile phone screens.

Now to my sore point of the night. My bar was the only "bar" open on the night, but due it being an alcohol free event, we only sold softies, water, chips and ice cream. Now I dont know whose decision it was, but AAMI lost a HELL of a lot of money by not having a bar or two open.

In the first half hour alone (and I'm not lying...we tallied) we had over 100 come and ask for a beer, even though we had signs plastered everywhere saying it was an alcohol free event, almost to the point where I felt like saying" READ THE EFFING SIGNS STUPID"

We told one guy 3 times no beer and he just stood there looking at us as if we were going to pull a beer from under the table and tell him were were kidding... there are some very stupid people out there , and just quietly I dont care if anyone reading this was one of them.

Hopefully lesssons will be learned in time for Robbie, although this will be booze free too (take note of prior warning) but cant see us having too much of a problem there as the stadium will be full of 15 year old girls, homosexuals and MILF who wish they were 15 anyway..

PS; blisters on my hands from removing all those "missiles" from bottles, which made no sense, because a bottle full of coke on the noggen will hurt more than a plastic lid, the other reason for this was even though there was grey matting on the field, I guess the SANFL didnt want to be trying to dis-embed bottle caps from the playing field and (god forbid) missing one and having players going A over T.

Thank god it was alcohol free - it was hellish in the Gen Adm area enough with all the bogans who had been on the turps all day. I can't imagine what it would have been like if they'd been able to refuel.

One amusing footy-related aside: As people tried to make a quick getaway over the chairs at the northern goal end, I spotted quite a few 'Go Eagles!' cardboard signs under the chairs not cleaned up since the GF!

Went up here in Brissy and enjoyed the show, except for the absolutely woeful entry procedure for general admin -took us close to an hour to get in once we arrived (at Sports & Athletics stadium)

Alcohol was on sale for our concert, but fortunately I didn't encounter any idiots along the way.
Stood around 50 metres the stage and had a reasonably good view.

Not outstanding sound quality, but light show and performance made up for it overall.

Another thing the pre-band "hip hop style" was $hit with the lead knob telling a sob story to those who even cared to be listening to them, I was just thinking to myself just get U2 out.

Proof of what a knob Kanye West is: this is his tirade a couple of weeks ago at the MTV European awards where he stormed the stage after not winning 'Best Video'. He later said he was drunk and that people just didn't get his exceptional humour.

I'm still waiting to hear 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'. May favourite U2 song and they didn't play it, I was a bit disappointed about that.

They were good, The Edge sounded awesome, and I know Bono wants to spread his thoughts and ideas to everyone, but during Miss Sarajevo he talked for about 5 minutes, then we got Pride, an absolute classic, and I just felt like I couldn't get into it. The tempo just changed too much, in my opinion.

Good show, but I think I may have been building it up too much beforehand.

Didn't quite top REM at the Ent Cent last year.

Hi all,
well, thought I would have come out of the clouds by
now, but no, still on a massive high.
Absolutey amazing. What can I say about the lads.
These guys have been a massive part of my life over
the last 25 years. Had to stop my self from getting
emotional when a couple of my favoutites were played.
Started with COB, Vertigo, Elevation, I will Follow.
IWF didnt quite sound 100% (say 99%) but awesome non
the less. With Larrys intro to New Years day, I
thought the crowd would have made more noise, (maybe
it was a younger crowd), but not really. But when
Beautiful Day came on next, the crowd made there
loudest noise so far. Thought it was great the Bono
changed the middle section and mentioned the Barossa,
Adelaide (and a couple others I cant remember) in the
song. Man, that bought a huge lump in my throught.
Stuck in a moment, Angel of Harlem where Bono adds a
line of Kylies "I should be so lucky". Very nice
touch. Love and peice into Sometimes. Thoght Bono's
voice was fantastic. Hardly a crackle if any. But
then, the song that started it all for my when I was a
teenager in country SA (we didnt get to here much new
stuff back then as U2 had already been around for 3-4
years), Sunday Bloody Sunday. I just went off!!
Exploded like I never have before. The Edge was
belting out a ripper while Larry was just massive. In
the middle Bono bought a young boy on stage to sing
the "No more" part with him. Just sensational. I new
"Bullet" was up next. Edge was monsterous. And of
course Bono lit up his customary flare (which he had 3
or 4 goes at). Miss Sarajevo sent tingles down my
spine. Bono was really on top of his game here. No
crackles here. Just pure opera. (not that I am an
expert)Pride up next. Havent always been a massive fan
of this one, but that has changed now. Edge can just
do that to you. I new what was coming up next. My
heart jumped out of my chest at the start. I am still
hearing Edge now as I type this. "Streets" would
nearly be my favourite live track. The crowd just went
off as it started. Then no "No Poverty" speech into
"One". This song will always pull heartstrings for me.
Anyway, they left the stage and people started
leaving. I was frantically trying to get them to stay
telling them Zoo Station and The Fly were up next. So
most turned around and went back. Then into With or
without you. Man I love this song. I could just float
listening to Edge on this song. Sheer brilliance!!!
They left the stage again, and again people stated
leaving. I was playing traffic cop trying to get them
to stay, cos I new Saints and Kite were to come. Well,
most stayed and some left. (the ones that were leaving
near me that is) Saints didnt really get the crowd
going. At the start of Kite, a guy with an Irish and
Aboriginal heritage played the didgeridoo and also at
the finish. Knowing that was the last song, I thought,
man that was quick. I hadnt seen the lads since '89.
And now I wish I was going to Melbourne tonight (I
know some of you are).
Overall, I'd give it a 9.8 out of 10. Only cos Edge
had a bit sound trouble at one stage.
But sadly, I'd only give the crowd about 6 out of ten.
What is it with the Adelaide crowd? Seemed a bit
somber and bland. Except for a few songs.
Would have loved to have heard Mysterious Ways, Until
the end of the world, and Walk on, but
just sensational for me. I think having the break
since earlier this year helped Bono's voice. It was
great. Just awesome.

Good review wishiwas. Not sure I agree with all of it (I've already mentioned how Nobo's scripted spontenaity gives me the irrits) but you certainly get across the idea that at their best, U2 are still capable of giving you those spine-tingles like no-one else can. I still get gushy whenever I hear them do the end bit of WOWY.

I don't think I can say anything bad about this concert really, I had an awesome time and the whole show (songs, performance, stage show etc) was absolutely brilliant. U2 certainly spare no expense when it comes to putting on a show! Only a couple of real minor quips:

1. The song order - they started off with a real bang with their bigger songs, but really the only major song that featured in either encore was With Or Without You. I would have thought Where The Streets Have No Name, One, Beautiful Day, Vertigo or any similar song like that may have been swapped from the main set with one of the encore songs, then they would have certainly finished with a bang (IMO anyway).

2. I thought the no caps on bottles policy was a bit of a farce, considering somebody got past security with a flare which was fired up mid show!

I would give it a 9/10 personally. The sound quality was not 100%, with some reverberating around the stadium, but I expected that anyway and it certainly wasn't as bad as what I expected. Kanye West sounded deplorable, his music is not suited to stadium shows. I was told that he only returned due to him being bound by a contract that stated if any shows were re-scheduled, he must still play and that he fought to get out of it but couldn't. I would have preferred to have seen an Australian band along the lines of Eskimo Joe, Living End or Thirsty Merc etc. (not huge like Powderfinger but well known enough) supporting them rather than a hip-hop artist.

Saw a bloke as I was walking out of AAMI with the kite that Bono let off at the end of the show, and thought 'I bet that is on eBay tomorrow' and was amused to see it on there this morning.

Also, about 15 minutes into the show a young girl (I think, was hard to tell) was streched out of the stadium in front of us by ambulance officers and security....rare for a U2 show I am sure.

Or if we had to have hip hop, at least the Hilltop Hoods :)

Now I think about it, didn't there used to be a law that touring international acts had to have an Australian support? Has that changed recently?

Must've been, Kings of Leon are supporting Pearl Jam tomorrow and Wednesday too so it wasn't just a one-off.

When U2 came in 89 BB King was official support but I think they had to have an Oz act too (Weddings Parties Anything?). I've got this vague memory they didn't play on the main stage?

For the ZooTV shows Big Audio Dynamite and Paul Oakenfold supported, but Kim Salmon (poor bastard) was dragged out as the Oz support.

I think it was definitely a rule that has changed. I'm still cursing that I missed R.E.M. with the GoBetweens in '89 :(

I was thinking the same thing ZZ, there used to be a requirement for the supporting band to be an aussie band, Coldplay had Youth Group and Foo Fighters had some aussie band (was in the bar)...someone might know if this has changed.

Eskimo Joe or Living End would have fired up the crowd nicely

Greenday in 05 had those emo twits Simple Plan while those blokes bordering on emo Blink 182 in 04 had Gyroscope (from Perth?????) and Brand New from the US i think

Back in 2003, Matchbox Twenty had some American bloke called Pete Stuart, along with a band from Melbourne, who's name I can't recall.

But yes, I also thought that there was a law about having at least one Australian act as a support.

The Living End would have wiped U2 off the stage.
