ELIXIR ALBUM – featuring Katie Noonan – HAS BEEN WORTH THE WAIT
First Seed Ripening
Available August 5

It’s 2am in the week before Easter, and the sound of an ethereal voice accompanied by plucked guitar and soprano saxophone is wafting like some enchanted breeze along the deserted corridors outside an ABC recording studio in Sydney. Through the door and into the candle-lit room, and there we discover the unmistakeable presence of Katie Noonan, lost in the words, accompanied by her trio of 14 years, Elixir, and recording only their second album ever, and their first for ABC Music.

The mood of inspiration and rapt attention is obvious, the three friends locked away from the world, creating a mesmerising soundscape inspired by the words of legendary Australian poet Thomas Shapcott.

And now, with a national tour supporting Ron Carter and further festival appearances beckoning, Elixir’s First Seed Ripening has been completed. Downloads of the spell-binding advance tracks Snapshot and Circle of Moonlight are heralding the impending release of the entire CD on 5 August, with industry rumours circulating that it is Noonan’s most creatively-inspired, deeply-personal recording since her early years with the Brisbane band george.

Since their self-titled first album which became a best-seller upon its release in 2003, Elixir has been joined by Melbourne-based guitarist Stephen Magnusson – himself a major solo recording artist in his own right – while Katie’s husband Zac Hurren continues to provide his mellifluous, lyrical saxophone lines that are as distinctive a feature of the Elixir sound as Katie’s sublime vocals themselves.

‘Our aim,’ Katie says of the new album, ‘was to make gentle, intimate music, and it was all about freedom and spontaneity.’ Recording at an unhurried pace, the trio allowed themselves the time to explore every nuance of Shapcott’s subtle, deeply humane poetry that they have been working on with the Queensland-based poet himself for seven years. (Two tracks on Katie’s previous album Emperor’s Box also featured lyrics by Shapcott.)

‘When Elixir first played with me, I was thrilled with their expertise and with Katie Noonan's singing and the way she made my words into something new - and, for me, strange,’ says the 76-year-old winner of the 2000 Patrick White Award. ‘Since then she has continued to surprise and delight me. Elixir fits around her like a glove.’

In penetrating deep into the heart of Shapcott’s words, the trio enlisted the help of string players from the Australian Chamber Orchestra (with whom Katie has worked regularly), and leading jazz players Jonathan Zwartz on bass and Simon Barker on drums.

From the very first notes of the opening, title track, it becomes obvious that this is an album like no other, conceived in the white-heat of inspiration but setting its own late-night pace, by turns reflective and brooding, and then ravishingly beautiful, transported by the moods of the moment.

‘It’s an album containing the most haunting musical melodies,’ says Robert Patterson, Head of ABC Music, who previously released Katie’s best-selling Two of Kind duets album with her soprano-mother Maggie. ‘Having this three-time ARIA-winner recording again on our label has been a joy, with the added bonus that Stephen is also a long-time ABC Music artist. Watching them and Zac working together with such a special atmosphere in the studio really represented a beautiful welcome home for all of us.’

While the majority of songs on First Seed Ripening feature lyrics by Shapcott, there are also the kinds of inspired covers at which Elixir have always excelled. Joni Mitchell’s My Old Man comes in for particularly impressive treatment, while Split Enz’s I Hope I Never, composed by Katie’s song writing collaborator Tim Finn, makes for a particularly moving conclusion to an album that has been a long time coming but, in every heavenly note, has been worth the wait.

FORTHCOMING RELEASES:

10 JUNE

All Time Low ‘Dirty Work’

Since forming in the Baltimore suburbs in 2003, All Time Low have become one of the biggest pop-punk bands to emerge on the scene, building a grassroots following of die-hard fans with very little radio airplay and a touring ethic that would rival road-weary vets like Green Day. Their profile is only going to rise with the release of their stellar debut Dirty Work – a 12 track mix of hard-charging anthems and sugar-shot rockers that are poised to dominate house parties and joyrides this summer.

Tom Vek ‘Leisure Seizure’

It's been a long time between drinks for Tom Vek, but five years after delivering his acclaimed debut the man is back…Vek spontaneously released his first album just as the digital age was dawning, guest starred on The O.C. and then disappeared. British-born, his references are rooted in American culture, ranging from mid 90s alt-rock, cable access TV shows and post-war fiction.

The self-taught recording artist's process and musical output is loaded with cryptic contradictions; his scrappy, chopped-up, beat rock sounds are housed in contrasting clean and precise artwork; this new era's trademark, the obsessively refined pair of British made Anglo American glasses, sit unworn on the cover of the focused new 12-track album.

Hayley Westenra ‘Paradiso’

New Zealand born soprano Hayley Westenra celebrates ten incredible years in the music industry with the release of her fifth studio album, 'Paradiso' -- a collaboration with master Italian composer Ennio Morricone. Well known for his iconic film scores including 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' and 'Once Upon a Time in the West', Morricone received an honorary Academy Award for his contribution to the art of film music in 2007 and is regarded as one of the most prolific and influential composers of his era.

The album features new compositions written by Morricone for Hayley, as well as some of his best-known film compositions of the last 50 years. With Ennio making new bespoke arrangements for every track, he produced all of Hayley's vocal performances, as well as conducting each session with his own 120-piece orchestra -- Sinfonietta di Roma.

Madeleine Peyroux ‘Standing On The Rooftop’

Madeleine Peyroux is in the midst of her journey. Renowned for her interpretive song skills, the vocalist followed her creative muse on 2009’s “Bare Bones” by challenging herself to write a full album of her own compositions.

Now with “Standing On the Rooftop” (Emarcy/Decca), she delves deeper into her reinvention, not only writing the bulk of the songs, but pushing past any preconceived notions about her music and daring herself to expand her sonic template.

“I wanted to explore some new sounds,” says Peyroux, “That would be the most exciting thing that I could think of as a musician. I’ve been recording my voice and my guitar together long enough to know this was not the limit.”

Various Artists ‘The Weather Channel Presents – Sounds Of Winter’

In collaboration with The Weather Channel, this 2 CD set includes a selection of music played on The Weather Channel, along with a careful choice of tracks perfectly suited for the sound of winter. The two first met in 1997 at a concert in Detroit and soon formed Bad Meets Evil (Royce as Bad and Eminem as Evil). But they released just a few recordings, including the song ‘Bad Meets Evil’ on Eminem’s major label debut, The Slim Shady LP and a heralded independent Bad Meets Evil 12” featuring the now underground classic, ‘Scary Movies.’

The Grates ‘Secret Rituals’

Having captured hearts with their critically-lauded, internationally-received albums “Gravity Won’t Get You High” and “Teeth Lost, Hearts Won”, The Grates have a slew of accolades under their belts. Now they return to Australia with a fresh new sound, line up and attitude.

Having spent the better part of two years immersing themselves in Brooklyn culture and taking a bite of the Big Apple, it’s fitting that The Grates new album “Secret Rituals” should take on a few traits of the city that never sleeps. Tough in its intent and infectious in its delivery, their third album holds the promise of drawing an army of new fans to their beck and call.

Owl City ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’

Adam Young is living proof that dreams do come true…of course, with the help of the Internet. The Minnesota- born artist suffered from insomnia and spent his days living in a dream world away from his hometown and mundane job. Adam utilized his free time to write beautiful poems that emulated his optimistic nature and idealistic world. He jumpstarted his music career mixing tapes in his mom’s basement and streaming them onto the MySpace; the songs quickly went viral.

Yuksek ‘Living on the Edge’

Boredom and solitude are two things most musicians don’t wear well. Once detachment starts to kick in, terrible things tend to happen – hard drugs, loose women, broken television sets, you know the picture.

But when French electro maverick Yuksek found himself more or less bored with the self-serving demands of the dancefloor and all too often alone on tour, solely accompanied by his collection of synths and FX boards, he wisely decided to avoid the aforementioned trappings and pour his heart and soul into song.

An album inspired by the numbness of life on the road, the feeling of being alone in a crowd and the constant need for creative exploration – but also a collection of unabashed, jubilant pop tunes; introspective and uplifting at the same time.

SHANIA HONORED FOR BEING TOP-SELLING FEMALE ARTIST IN COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY AS SHE UNVEILS FIRST NEW MUSIC IN SIX YEARS

As she prepares to release her first new song in six years, Shania Twain has been honored for reaching worldwide sales of more than 75 million, making her the top-selling female artist in the history of country music.

Luke Lewis, chairman of Universal Music Group Nashville, paid tribute to Shania’s talent, vision, and determination during an afternoon gathering at the Citizen club in Nashville.

It was a full-circle moment for Shania because she was surrounded by several of those who helped start her career, including Nashville attorney Dick Frank and producers Buddy Cannon and Norro Wilson, as well as hit producer Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift), who co-produced her new song, “Today Is Your Day,” and Ray Kennedy, who mastered the new song.

“Today Is Your Day” premiered worldwide during the finale episode of Why Not? with Shania Twain on Sunday, June 12 on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The song is now available on iTunes. “The purpose of writing ‘Today Is Your Day’ in the first place was self- inspiration,” said Shania, who co-produced the song with Chapman. “I was talking to myself and saying, ‘Today is your day. You can do it!’ But the decision to even write the song and share it was a big decision for me, to find myself as a songwriter again, independently, for the very first time after all these years. “Then the lyrics started flowing,” she said. “It was genuinely a melody that’s cheering me up. It became the natural theme song of the series.”

Chapman was excited and honored to work with Shania. “It was exciting for me as a fan and as a producer to find out just how brilliant she really is as an artist. She sounds amazing; she sounds better than ever. She is one of those artists who can tell a story just in the tone of her voice.

“The song itself is so uplifting,” he said. “At a time when all of her fans are rooting for her and wanting her to come back and find her voice, she is turning that back around and she is rooting for her fans by giving them a song that they can play to inspire them.”

This hectic month for Shania has included several significant milestones, including a best-selling book, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a successful TV series and news of a headline residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Clare Bowditch ‘Are You Ready Yet?’ EP

“Sometimes, songwriting needs to be scary in order to be good. With this in mind, I decided in February that I would turn my hand to co-writing with some of my favourite Australian artists. I wanted the songs to sound glorious to the ear, and leave people feeling uplifted, rather than analytical. The "Are You Ready Yet" EP is a taste of where this experiment took me: into the homes of people like Gotye and Lanie Lane, and then straight into the studio to lay down the things we had written together. The other experiment I became interested in, and have tried out with this EP, is taking my Lady Garden into the top attic of an old Convent and making music that broken-hearten angels might make. Lisa Mitchell and her Golden Arrow Super Gang also did me the honour of re-working an old song, Miss You Like The Rain. And overall, wanna know the true reason this quickly recorded experimental EP sounds as glorious as it does? It's Marty Brown: he's sprinkled a new recipe of magic dust on it and is just Mr Clever Pants.” – Clare Bowditch

Joss Stone announces her next album ‘LP1’ out July 29, 2011

As a world-renowned soul singer who Smokey Robinson calls “Aretha Joplin,” Joss has sold over 11 million records globally. Having just turned 24, Joss has already amassed a career's worth of successes. She is also a Grammy winner, five-time Grammy nominee, and the recipient of two Brit Awards.

Stone recently established her own label, Stone’d Records, hence the title of the first album to come out on the label, LP1, which is released in partnership with Surfdog Records. This is the first album Joss has recorded with total creative freedom. She co-wrote and co-produced it with super-producer and Eurythmics co-founder, Dave Stewart. Together they immersed themselves into a rock n' soul musical odyssey in Nashville, Tennessee.

“This is the most fun I’ve ever had making a record with crazy Dave Stewart at the helm, and yes the players in Nashville are unbelievable!!!” says Stone. ”This album captures a specific moment in time that was spontaneous and full of creativity.”

“Joss can sing with the ferocity of a lioness and dynamically switch to the most delicate whisper in the same phrase,” says Stewart. “She is always honest and full of real emotion. It is an honor to work alongside a true artist who understands so much at such a young age.”

THE LEGEND OF BABYLON

It’s customary for an artist on the promo trail to talk up (or big note) how progressive their new album is. But in the two years since Clockwork floored the hip-hop world, Phrase — aka Melbourne MC Harley Webster — has completely ripped up his past by the roots. Babylon, his third album, throws down the gauntlet to any musician feeling hemmed in by a scene and longing to paint a bigger picture.

Accustomed to dropping his rhymes over loops and breaks, this time around Harley did way with all samples and penned songs from scratch on guitar. He found himself leaning to the raw, desperate delivery of Australian garage rock and British mod, and so enlisted a producer, Tony Buchen, with a similar aesthetic, to take the demos to the next level. The result is a soulful, edgy album that’s screaming to be heard with full live band.

First single ‘Apart’ (available digitally today), sets the stage for Babylon. A garage stomper with rockabilly guitar twists and a chorus sung by You Am I's Davey Lane, the track laments a chaotic, hungover relationship.

Rest assured, Babylon retains Phrase’s trademark acerbic insights. While he’s drawn on some vintage genres when structuring the songs, on the verses he’s re-imagined the vocalist as rapper back in the day, emerging with a flawlessly blended sound that’s startlingly unique. Artfully designed to jack up your adrenalin, these tracks hum with tremolo guitar, Farfisa and Hammond lines. The choruses (so epic they must be carved into the side of a mountain somewhere) feature gutsy vocals from an unlikely crew of special guests including Jimmy Barnes, Sparkadia’s Alex Burnett and Guineafowl — and Harley singing, for the first time, himself.

While Harley’s spin on life can be derisive, his delivery aggressive, there’s always a chink of light shining through that signals the possibility of redemption. “To me,” Harley concludes, “‘Babylon’ means a place of beauty and getting to a better point in life. That’s what the record represents.”

Phrase’s new album Babylon is out August 12, 2011, through Marlin Records/Universal Music Australia.

ARE YOU READY TO BE FREDDIE?
Freddie Mercury: Freddie For A Day – September 5, 2011

Freddie For A Day is a celebration of the life of Freddie Mercury - the frontman who brought you ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Are The Champions’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’.

It’s an annual, worldwide event which falls around Mercury’s birthday date and is a fun way to remember one of the greatest artists of our time. But behind it is the earnest purpose of raising funds to support the continued work in fighting HIV AIDS worldwide.

Those wanting to be involved should dress up as Freddie on September 5 and get their friends, family, school friends or work colleagues to sponsor them.

Freddie For A Day began in the UK through the Mercury Phoenix Trust which is the HIV AIDS charitable organisation set up in Freddie’s memory after his passing almost 20 years ago. This year, Australia is coming on board with all donations going to The AIDS Trust of Australia via a dedicated Freddie For A Day fundraising link.

Freddies should head to www.freddieforaday.com.au for all donation details and for inspiration on how to get involved and what to wear.

Whether it’s donning a moustache for the day or dressing up in full QUEEN regalia, supporters can enjoy a day knowing that they are raising much needed funds and awareness for a diseases that affects so many.

The ‘Live Magic Freddie’ yellow jacket and white trousers outfit that Freddie wore at Wembley Stadium in 1986 will be made available to buy at the official Australian Freddie For A Day store www.freddieforaday.com.au, with all profits going to charity. Alternatively, Freddies can make their own costume.

LMFAO ‘Sorry For Party Rocking’

This year, the entire world is shuffling to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem.” So far, the unstoppable track from the Los Angeles-based duo has topped iTunes charts in seven countries, and spent weeks atop the English/US/Australian pop charts in April and May, when the duo kept artists such as Chris Brown and Jennifer Lopez from reaching the number one slot across the pond. As further testament to the global love for the song, the vibrant music video passed twenty million views on Vevo in under two months.

“Party Rock Anthem” (featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock), is just the opening round of Redfoo and Sky Blu’s forthcoming full-length album, Sorry For Party Rocking .

Fitz and the Tantrums

Fitz and The Tantrums consists of six killer musicians, many irresistible songs, and a splash of serendipity. Their high-energy horn-drenched, sax-maniac songs about deceit and despair, are all over their debut “Pickin’ Up The Pieces”. It is so full of powerful hooks and performances, memorable melodies and tight musicianship, you’ll do a double-take, wrongly assuming the 10 original compositions remind you of 60s soul classics mixed with some 80s pop.

They’re one of the hottest live bands in the US today, and Fitz and The Tantrums will soon be bringing their explosive live show our way. They’ve become regulars on the US chat-show circuit, having appeared on Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno’s shows, and were also crowned of VH1’s April Band You Oughta Know and Rolling Stone’s Bands To Watch.

Jump Jump Dance Dance ‘Jump Jump Dance Dance’

It’s unusual for an up and coming band to have a pedigree as impressive as that of Los Angeles electro-rock conspirators Jump Jump Dance Dance. But as it stands, the duo of Chris Carter and Simon Lewicki had amassed a wealth of experience – Carter as an in-demand DJ and vocalist who has played alongside such luminaries of the LA scene as DJ AM and Tommie Sunshine, and Simon as the mastermind behind the celebrated club acts Groove Terminator, Tonite Only and Chili Hifly before uniting to create Jump Jump Dance Dance.

Their self-titled debut highlights the harmony in their eclectic talents, creating a uniquely special album that’s bound to earn Chris and Simon a slew of new fans as varied as the group’s sound itself.

Rise Against and It Gets Better Project Announce Collaboration and Tackle Bullying In New Music Video for “Make It Stop (September’s Children)”

Rise Against and The It Gets Better Project ® are proud to announce a collaboration in conjunction with the release of Rise Against’s new single, "Make It Stop (September's Children)" from their album Endgame, which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.

The It Gets Better Project and Rise Against shifts the spotlight to bullying via “Make it Stop (September’s Children),” a topic Rise Against lead-singer Tim McIlrath says really hasn’t been adequately addressed in the rock scene. "A number of events were the catalyst for the creation of Make It Stop, everything from the suicides in September 2010, to our own fans voicing their fears and insecurities from time to time,” says McIlrath. “I decided to create the song as a response, and when I discovered the It Gets Better campaign and [It Gets Better Project co-founder] Dan Savage's commitment to such an important and concise message, I was moved. I immediately felt that if our song is the road, then the It Gets Better campaign is the destination. I hope the synergy between the two can reach people and make a difference."

"Tim McIlrath has written a powerful song," It Gets Better Project co-founder Dan Savage said. "With the release of 'Make It Stop' and the accompanying video, Rise Against is sending the message to its fan base that the bullying and harassment of LGBT teens needs to stop and that suicide isn't a solution."

Award-winning director Marc Klasfeld directed the "Make It Stop" music video in Chicago at Tim McIlrath’s high school alma mater. “I've been a fan of Rise Against for a while and it was amazing to work with them on this special video,” Klasfeld said. “As soon as I heard the song, I knew a powerful video could be made that could potentially help people and I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.”

The video depicts the band performing the song in the high school gymnasium alongside moving scenes of individuals from the LGBT community experiencing and coping with bullying from their peers in high school. The music video also includes snippets of multiple youtube submissions provided by the It Gets Better Project, with individuals sharing their stories and letting viewers know that “it gets better.” You can watch the video by clicking the link below:

Rise Against is well known for lending their voice to causes as well as their close relationship to their fans. Past songs with a bent toward social activism have included "Ready to Fall" in support of PETA and "Hero of War", written in response to the military action in Iraq.
The It Gets Better Project is a non-profit organization created by syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage, who is featured in the video, and his partner Terry Miller in September 2010. Eight months later, IGB has turned into a worldwide movement, inspiring over 10,000 user-created videos viewed over 35 million times.

To date, the project has received submissions from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Ellen DeGeneres, the staffs of The Gap, Google, Facebook, Pixar, the Broadway community, and many more.

The website www.itgetsbetter.org is a place where LGBT youth can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future, straight allies can support their friends and family members, and where anyone can share their story, take the It Gets Better Project pledge, watch videos of love and support, and seek help through the Trevor Project, GLSEN and the ACLU LGBT Project. Please spread the word today by visiting www.riseagainst.com and taking the pledge at the It Gets Better Project's website, itgetsbetter.org.

Nirvana, the trio comprised of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, hailed originally from a coastal fishing town in Washington and rose to become one of the most influential rock bands in history with irreverence, intense honesty and an overriding passion.

The cultural shift Nirvana’s Nevermind initiated was felt instantly on release -- and the profundity and depth of that shift becomes even more apparent when seen through the prism of the two decades of art and music created in its wake.

Released in September of 1991, Nirvana’s Nevermind garnered near-unanimous praise and rose within a few months to the #1slot on Billboard’s U.S. sales chart. Nevermind was propelled to #1 across the globe by their young fans worldwide that identified with the band and embraced their anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and its landmark music video.

Since then, it has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Nirvana changed the course of popular music forever and remains an inspiration to those who have followed.

Universal Music Enterprises and Universal Strategic Marketing are pleased to announce the 4-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition of Nirvana’s Nevermind available in Australia on Friday, September 16th

The CDs will include previously unreleased tracks, rarities, b-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes, rare live recordings and an unreleased concert in its entirety on DVD.

The 20th anniversary of Nirvana will be marked throughout the year, with various events and releases.

RETURNS WITH TALK OF SECRET CODES AND BATTLESHIPS

Darren Hayes has emerged from the studio having spent 4 years crafting a collection of songs that are reminiscent of the kind that firmly established him as the voice of a generation. Secret Codes and Battleships (out October) is an album that is undeniably pop but beautifully bruised and wonderfully dented with a maturity, delicate reflection, and an emotional substance that could only come from a true career artist.

The infectious first single ‘Talk Talk Talk’ was written and produced with Swedish producer/co-writer Carl Falk and featuring string arrangements by Swede Mattias Bylund, whose family worked on all the string arrangements for Abba – there’s a sense of past pop perfection infused with today’s sounds. Hayes has struck that perfect balance between his own recent foray into electronic music and the chart-topping pop energy that is sweeping the globe. It boasts all the instant melodies that Hayes is renowned for, balanced out with an emotional lyric, which highlights his song writing ability.

The music video for ‘Talk Talk Talk’ is a moving piece of art based on the work of album cover designer John Gilsenan. Written and directed by Richard Cullen in collaboration with animator and film makers Andrew Philip and Gavin Elder it is a moving representation of the world of the new album. The clip premieres this morning on Darren’s website - darrenhayes.com

Darren’s history began as one part of the global chart-smashing duo Savage Garden who had a string of unforgettable hit singles and two albums that soundtracked the 90’s pop generation. After disbanding in 2001, Darren Hayes went on to release three solo albums – Spin (2002), The Tension And The Spark (2004), and the independently released This Delicate Thing We’ve Made (2007). With the release of each album Hayes has explored his creative musical desires, earning the praise of fans and critics alike and tallying over 26 million albums sales over his musical career to date. Darren had spent the last decade stretching his wings creatively with experiments in sound and achievements in live shows. His collaborations with U2’s stage director Willie Williams resulted in sold out performances at London’s Royal Albert Hall and Australia’s Sydney Opera House. But amidst the creative flurry – Hayes felt a beckoning to reconnect with a wider audience again.

Writing the new album has been a voyage of discovery, and in the end, he’s come home; the prodigal pop-son has returned.

MEDIA ALERT
You can download for free the ICEHOUSE live performance at Centenary Hall on June 19th 1980 just by going to the ICEHOUSE Facebook page, www.facebook/Icehouseband
Here is a message from Iva Davies from ICEHOUSE
Hi everyone, Iva here.

When we were going through the search for live recordings to include in the 30th Anniversary Edition of the Flowers Icehouse album, one of the live-to-air radio concerts we were made aware of came from a performance at Centenary Hall on June 19th 1980 for Melbourne radio station 3RRR which has been a supporter of the band ever since our first trip into that city.

We thought this show was a great example of how Flowers sounded as a band at that time, playing the debut album and no cover versions. We found it hard to break it up into individual songs so didn’t include any of these tracks in the 30th Anniv set as we wanted to share the concert ‘whole’.

Our friends at RRR and the National Film & Sound Archive have very kindly agreed to let us give the concert away to our friends and fans for free so here it is, warts and all!

As it was broadcast live-to-air as we played it you can hear the production team bring the sound together over the first song. After that it is up to the band to deliver and we hope you think we did just that.

If you like it, please feel free to let your friends know where they get this performance of Flowers live to share as well.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

I. ALBUM: The songs from Biophilia will be released as a traditional 10-track studio album later this year, available digitally and physically across standard formats. The songs will also be featured within their accompanying Biophilia Apps, but with a more stripped-down structure for educational and game purposes, mixed by Damian Taylor and Björk. The album’s first single, “Crystalline,” is available now via iTunes exclusively. The groundbreaking director and longtime Björk collaborator Michel Gondry is creating a music video for the song, due next week.
II. APPS: The Biophilia Apps are a collection of ten apps, one for each song, which will be available via the central Cosmogony "mother app," available through One Little Indian. This platform will serve as a three-dimensional galaxy in which the initial apps appear as constellations, and the others are added to the collection at regular intervals thereafter.
Every app has its own theme (in connection with its corresponding song) and combines a natural element with a musicological feature. The layers of content in each app include: an interactive game based on the song’s scientific and musical subject matter, a musical animation of the song, an animated score, lyrics, and an academic essay. The game enables the user to interact with musical elements of the song and to learn about different musical features while creating their own version; the musical animation and animated music score bring together conventional and innovative ways of representing music visually; and the academic essay explores the ideas behind each song and app and how they are realized musically.

The Biophilia Apps have been developed with a team chosen by Björk, comprising ten of the most groundbreaking and commercially successful app developers working today. The team is lead by Scott Snibbe Studio, creator of the bestselling apps Gravilux and Bubble Harp, and includes the creator of Sim City, TouchPress (pioneering designers behind the two top grossing apps Elements and Solar System), and a host of award winning designers, animators and leading experts in coding and encryption.
III. LIVE SHOWS: The Biophilia live show will have its world premiere on 30th June as part of the Manchester International Festival and continues as a three-year world tour of six-week residencies in eight different cities. In each city Björk will perform Biophilia twice a week, using the apps to play live a set of custom built musical instruments and evoking an atmosphere similar to being inside the app itself. For the rest of the week the venues will host a series of music-education workshops in collaboration with local schools.
Björk has commissioned a set of unique musical instruments to accompany her on the live tour. The team who created these instruments includes an English inventor, an Icelandic organ builder and a graduate of MIT Media Lab. Among these creations are four 10-foot pendulum-harps, in which the swinging motion plucks the strings and illustrates the songs' gravitational subject matter. There is also a unique 10-foot pin barrel harp called the Sharpsichord, a midi-controlled pipe organ and celeste (re-fitted with bronze gamelan bars), twin musical tesla coils, a hang player and an award-winning 24-piece Icelandic female choir. The Biophilia Live Show takes place in specially chosen spaces and museums, rather than traditional music venues. Björk will perform in the round to audiences of less than 2,000 people to create an intimate experience in which all audience members are within 20-feet of the stage.
IV. DOCUMENTARY: A 90-minute documentary on the Biophilia project is currently being filmed by Pulse Films. The film will be an exploration of Björk’s creative process as she puts together the different elements of the project. Here we will see her at work in the rehearsals for the live show, in the studio working on the album, and through observational footage, interview and demonstration we will discover how the project was conceived and realized. Along the way we will also discover more about the fascinating relationship between music and the natural world. The climax of this element of the film will be the unveiling of her project; the premiere live performance of Biophilia. The documentary will be broadcast later in the Biophilia campaign.
V. WEBSITE: www.bjork.com has been re-launched for Biophilia, using the very latest HTML5 technology. The site is now uniquely animated and interactive to provide an artist website experience totally unlike any other. It features a unique immersive 3D galaxy with versions that can be enjoyed on almost all devices, and will be the hub for all Biophilia information.

Mick Jagger - Damian Marley - A.R. Rahman - Dave Stewart - Joss Stone

Mick Jagger has teamed up with Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart, soul singer Joss Stone, Academy Award winning composer and global superstar A.R.Rahman and reggae star Damian Marley to form a band cooperative project called SuperHeavy. This diverse and eclectic line up who share eleven Grammy Awards between them, have been recording together in various studios around the world, with the majority of the tracks on the project laid down over three weeks in Los Angeles earlier this year. The album will be unveiled in September and tracks include the first single ‘Miracle Worker’, plus ‘One Day One Night’, ‘Energy’, ‘Unbelievable,’ ‘SuperHeavy,’ I Can’t Take It No More,’ ‘You’re Never Gonna Change’ and ‘I Don’t Mind.’

Stewart refers to SuperHeavy as, “A mad alchemist type experiment”. Fusing the talents of one of the greatest front-men of all time, a two time Academy award winning Indian composer, a soul vocal prodigy, a three time Grammy winning reggae star, and one of the most sought after producers in the world, you would expect the explosive results to defy categorisation.

SuperHeavy came together after Jagger and Stewart considered what a band comprising of musicians from different genres would sound like. Jagger explains, “Dave really wanted to make a record with a different group of musicians, in other words, with different backgrounds of music. Instead of everyone being a rock musician, or basically a blues musician, or some other genre, he wanted to get as many genres together that would fit. I said it sounds like a good idea, I never thought it would actually happen.” The SuperHeavy album is co-produced by Jagger & Stewart.

The band’s path crossed with legendary Indian composer A.R. Rahman, in the City of Angels fresh from his Slumdog Millionaire Oscar glory. Jagger explains, “We didn’t know what kind of music we’d make, we didn’t know if it would be any good, but we hoped we’d have fun.” They were thrilled to have Rahman on board,Stewart says, “He brings so much musical knowledge, amazing musicianship, melody and singing power from a different culture.”

As far as the future of SuperHeavy goes, “We haven’t planned to do a tour or anything, but if people really like it maybe we will. We’d love to get out and play some of it live,” says Jagger humbly. “As soon as we started playing together in the studio it gelled, and all these different styles didn’t seem to be a problem to make them fit together... I hope people will like it....”

Main Credits on the ‘SuperHeavy’ album are - Mick Jagger (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Dave Stewart (guitar), Joss Stone (vocals), Damian Marley (vocals) and A. R. Rahman (vocals plus a variety of keyboards).
