Gee this thread has a tough crowd!

Obviously its down to personal opinion - but i would be PUMPED if Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden were announced! Been waiting for STP to reform and tour down under for years now, and didnt think it was ever gonna happen with Weiland's drug problems and fronting for Velvet revolver. STP's albums Core (Plush, Sex Type Thing, Wicked Garden) and Purple (Interstate Love Song, Big Empty, Vasoline) are classics, and Soundgarden have a catalogue of amazing songs from the early grunge era on onwards! Outshined? Jesus Christ Pose? Rusty Cage? Fell on Black Days? Spoon Man etc!

Certainly prefer to see bands of yesteryear being announced ahead of most of todays bands! (unless the bands of yesteryear get here and play their new stuff  )

I know, but they are examples. People would prefer to see these bands than look at the line-up thinking, who the heck is Soundgarden or whatever they're called.

I think a vast majority of people would know who Soundgarden are.

With Soundgarden headlining, two or three of the following bands would go down alright:

Shihad (new album due out toward the end of the year)
British India (BDO 2007, due for another showing)
Children Collide (new album out next week)

Chemical Brothers (touring East Coast in early March though)
Pendulum (touring Aus in Oct/Nov though)

Agreed.
Hopefully they lean more towards rock/grunge this year than last year's effort.
Too much crap like Dizzee Rascal and Lily Allen for my liking.

You must be from the younger generation - perhaps you heard of Audioslave ie the Rage Against the Machine band with some other singer? Well that some of other singer is the legendery Chris Cornell, of Soundgarden! Cornell also did one of the recent James Bond themes IIRC.

Soundgarden were leading the grunge movement in the early 90s, before Nirvana came out and totally dominated it!
