Michael Jackson's 'Ben' for my Aussie No. 1. It's amazing to look back on old charts and see how long some albums and songs were number one. These days it's in and out and largely forgotten. Midnight Oil's 10-1 was in the charts for 2 years - that's unheard of these days.

Last to do it was probably Celine Dion with the awful Titanic song or Bryan Adams with the awful Robin Hood song?? Can't think of another recent 'stayer'...

I was interested to see what songs had hung around in the ARIA No. 1 spot, after reading your comment ZZ! Found this out.

In 1976 Fernando (Torres!) - by Abba stayed in the No. 1 spot for 14 weeks, which is the record.

Most of the songs that hung around at No. 1 were older, like ZZ pointed out. Some more recent songs to hang around are:
Eminem - Lose Yourself (2003) 12 weeks at No.1
Sandi Thom - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (2006) 10 weeks at No. 1

Wow, I'm genuinely amazed by that. And there were quite a few from the 90s too. Just goes to show I know nothing!
