Ian wrote:Wedgie, using your theory (who sold the most) that would put these artists ahead of either Queen or AC/DC, I'd rate 3 or 4 of them as good as Queen or AC/DC, but the rest......
The Beatles
Bing Crosby
Michael Jackson
Elvis Presley
Frank Sinatra
ABBA
Alla Pugacheva (?)
Cliff Richard
Elton John
Led Zeppelin
Madonna

BTW
Queen's biggest selling album, Greatest Hits, 25+ million
AC/DC's biggest selling album, Back in Black, 40+ million

Not sure how Alla Pugacheva fits in when she's sold between 75 and 250 million and Queen have sold 300 million.

Looking at your list there's and using my theory only 3 bands who have sold more albums than Queen and could claim to be more influential and that's ABBA, the Beatles and Led Zepplin.
I can live with that, that's probably fair enough, pretty influential bands. Even if I don't have a lot of time for Led Zep I can admit to them being huge and influential.

Although single artists taking on bands isn't a fair comparison I could live with most of the artists on that list except for the Russian chick and maybe Cliff Richard as being extrelemely influential.

WTF??? :?

What would you have CP??

Dunno but it wouldn't be those 3 ... Tough call I know, but I think they've just opted for the 3 most commercially played ... I appreciate that the popularity and longevity of such a band will create divided opinion, but off the top of my head I'd have the following ahead of all of those:

Whole Lotta Rosie
Riff Raff
Jailbreak
Sin City
Hells Boys
FTATR (WSY)
High Voltage
Highway

Throw in 'Dog Eat Dog' & 'Rock & Roll Damnation'.

That reminds me of a critic who said that AC/DC has made the same record 12 times.
Angus was livid and replied that they had done 13 albums.
Self-deprecation in very short supply these days.

2-10 pages slip by and I wonder what the point is? :?

Diss,I made the same point when workmates started this argument.
I also had to butt in when they started some ABBA v U2 biffo earlier this year.
Its not a contest but a great debate forum. As judged by the number of posts.
Which, by Wedgies argument, makes ME more influential than Hondo.

But I still don't see your point, Queen has sold more than 300 million and some chick from Russia has sold more than 250 million, I don't see how that makes her better than them?
Who knows though, if she'd had worldwide exposure she might have been, pretty impressive sales even though it is claimed her sales are anywhere between 75mill and 250mill as they're weren't accurately recorded in Russia, over 250 mill would be the high end of the guessing scale from what I've read.

Still not sure what point you're trying to make, that the Beatles have sold more albums than Queen?

If you're comparing sole artists with bands which I think is like comparing chalk and cheese then I still don't know what point you're trying to make? That the Beatles, Michale Jackson and Elvis are better than Queen in regard to Rock? I wouldn't disagree with you. :?
