Was so good to hear Hard Act to Follow, Lost Control, Chemical Heart, Champion and especially Just Ace live again. Same with Bow River, Flame Trees, When the War is Over and Forever Now from Chisel.

How good were they?

Feel ashamed that I hadn't seen them before but now have a bucket list item ticked off.

So many classics, theat you got so used to hearing the radio versions but when they are played live you get such an appreciation for a) Mossys skills on the frets, Phil's back beat on the bass and I've got to say their new drummer is a Swiss clock. I've always had more respect/liking for drummers like Weinburg, Watts, Carlos and Prestwitch who have a simple kit (four piece) compared to those who show off with the myriad of tom toms, double Basses and a shit load of metal, kits. Chuck in Walker and is has there ever been a better rhythm section in an Australian band??

Barnesy was good as ever.

Was disappointed the sax player didn't get the high G harmonics of the My Baby solo that Joe Camalieri did on the East recording.

Great night, was emotional thinking of Steve in the Forever now encore.

Laughed at the nuffys who left after the first "encore".

My throat is sore from singing but that night will live with me.

PS where did all the painted bonnets that used to hang in the foyer of the Ent centre of the past concerts go?? They were there the last tiem I went in '94 to watch electric Hippies, H&Cs, Crowded House and the Oils....

Had the absolute buzz of looking next to me during Chisels set to see Joe Hansen ( Grinspoon bassist ) standing next to me!

Took the obligatory "rock star selfie" and had a good chat with him, he introduced himself, rated ( with two thumbs ) my retro Grinspoon shirt and then gave me a bro shake and hug when I told him we ( Mrs and I ) were really there for the Grinners, just happened that Chisel "come on after you guys"

Cracking bloke. Chatted for about 15 minutes, what he's been doing during the Grinspoon hiatus, how many times I've seen them and their plans for touring into the future. Had a little bit of a moment to be honest. I'm an average bass player who loves the Grinners and Joe's "balls on the floor" bassist stance. I'm still buzzing a bit. When he left he asked my name again, said he'll keep an eye out for me when they get back to Adelaide.

Told him we better not be waiting too long!

PS - Chisel were excellent and Mossy can seriously play!

I loved the Grinners as a kid.

Guide to Better Living, Easy and the Pushing Buttons EP were essential listening for me in my younger days.

It was a Pushing Buttons T-shirt that I was wearing. "Old skoool" as it gets, said Joe.

That was when I saw Grinspoon live when they were touring for Pushing Buttons at HQ in 1998.

I heard the acoustics were shit but that's what'll happen when you have stages facing the southern stand. Ironically the old Adelaide Oval was much better for sound, glad I went last time and didn't bother last night.

Wish I did not go last night and kept the memory (and $$$s) of the 2010 black ice tour .

Much better set up and sound.

Left a bit disappointed last night.

No Malcolm no AC/DC .....time to hang up the Gibson SG IMO
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Yep, the roof is designed to send the sound back down to the ground, the roof structure works perfectly for noise generated from below it, ie - football crowds, but when one end of the ground is slamming some of the loudest riffs ever rung out across the Oval it doesn't work so well.

Mind you, I was on the Oval and had no issues with the sound. Understandably people 200+m away on a windy night with the roof over their heads might have found it of a poorer sound quality.

Either way, it might be my last AC/DC experience. Whilst they still "rock" ( as they remind us in every song ) they are just at the tipping point IMO, tipping from worth seeing to thinking I'm glad I saw them before.

Very poor crowd interaction from Johnson, he said "Been too long Adelaide" when he hit the stage and very, very little after that. Looked like it was a bit of a chore for him, to be honest. Whilst Angus is still a supreme guitarist, the loss of Malcolm was noticeable.

Mate of mine who went, isn't the biggest ACDC fan, and whilst he said he thought Johnson was pretty poor for crowd interaction and the sound wasn't as good as it could have been, he's glad he at least got to see them once before they finish up. And whilst he acknowledged their age, he thought it made the Rolling Stones performance of last year look even more remarkable. Seeing all the pre-concert posts on Facebook on Saturday I was getting a bit dirty about not being there, as they've been one of my favourite bands since I was a teenager. Thankfully I've seen them a few times previously and my lasting memory is of their Globe Derby gig whilst still in their prime.

I got this impression of the whole band when I saw them back in 2010. Great show, classic line-up and all the great songs, but I couldn't help but think these guys were performing on auto-pilot, and just doing a different version of a 9-5 office job. Clock on, rock out, clock off, next city. The next gig would've been identical. I guess that's what stadium/arena rock is, though, and they still made it entertaining, I was left a bit cold. It's a long way from playing sweaty pubs in the late 70s when they would've been at their absolute best IMHO.

Interesting that the stage faced the south this time, I guess that was done at least to keep the noise (and complaints) down for the North Adelaide residents.

I'd say for crowd capacity, not to do with the North Adelaide sulking society, by using the bulk of the Western and Eastern stands, the Oval and much of the Riverbank Stand too.

Would have to face that way to best utilise the corporate suites wouldn't it?

Correct. Although the suites on Level 3 of the Riverbank Stand were empty, in the main.
