MP3 has killed music

I find that only half true.

Sure, bands aren't making as much money from their work, but more and more people have easier access to be turned on to music they'd otherwise not be able to hear or find.

To be honest, it was just tongue in cheek with an element of truth

I find that having access to so much music actually devalues the music itself.
People want to be instantly satisfied.

I took more care listening to music in the past - now it's everywhere, and easy to get - but since there's so much, it's not given the time it deserves.

That's a fair call. I loved going out to a good record store (Veranda Music, Big Star, Bank St. etc) to buy albums and bootlegs.

I loved the idea of it but never really gave any one game enough time to sink in. Before that I'd been buying games and because of that, really let myself be immersed in them

There's a lot less care and love involved in sourcing music these days.

That's a fair point.
You can't grow to love an MP3 - you generally like the song or not.
Whereas an album, you can like it from the start, like parts of it or like it all - from the start or gradually.

That's what I love about vinyl. You have to listen to the whole album. Or your favourite side at least.

I love looking through music lists though. Spotify has an app made by classic rock magazine, which I scroll through, see a bands name I've never heard of, then give it a listen. Discovered many bands that way. Like Diss says, more underrated music out there than over.

Too right. As I age, I find it harder to be turned on to new music though.

As you age??? Mate, I am fifty and still go see young/new bands on a weekly basis, and there is plenty of good ones out there. You just have to discover it yourself and not rely on Dribble J, who seem to get more and more conservative in their music choices as time goes on.

I don't consider metal as 80s I guess.
I was more so thinking of that definite "80s" style.
I do love metal though.
I was probably tarring the 80s with too large of a brush.

For anything 1992-1999, I'd say yes. The quality of albums in that period, and the quality of new metal bands in that period was very low. Even the biggest names in the history of the genre had career lows in this time.

I'd say yes for 'traditional' metal, but for 'alternative' and other sub-genres of metal, it was a great period.
