Love each of the last three reviews.
Each have a great twist - thanks guys.
Spent much of the day wandering from stage to stage. Just catching what I did and a little bit of everything. A nice surprise for me was the party atmosphere of Dizzee Rascal. Also an early band called Lady Strangelove. I know many dislike Operator Please, but I love 'em. Their naive style and come out of nowhere arrival remind me kind of Spiderbait in their early days. Even better was they sang Whip It (I was wearing my Devo shirt as promised!)
Highlight for me was seeing Billy Bragg from front of stage. Also got his set list after he finished. Will now be framed - I love the big gonked bloke.
I've been waiting to see him for more than 15 years! I was supposed to see him on the Accidents...tour but split up with my GF the week before (she had the tickets!)
Much like Duncs and his RATM fix (who I saw 12 years ago - does that make me old?) I was very emotoional about the experience.
As for RATM - what a powerful set! It was a bit rough and tumble - i was happy to be standing near a martial arts expert who moved anyone along that looked like they were trouble. I know the 'bogan' (no offence Duncs, I know you're a genuine music fan) crowd was there to see them and them only, but do they understand the politics of the music??????
On the politics....was there a message coming from the organisers this year? Breaking off the shackles of 10 years of J Ho control?
There was a very left leaning list of performers scheduled - plenty of chances for preaching, which is ok if you like that sort of thing. RATM, Billy, Anti-Flag, The Nightwatchman (I know, I know, he's in RATM) and even Paul Kelly (although he's a little less strident than the rest).
I'm not sure if Zipper's mate Corey and his ilk took much of it in....
Finally, I had an awakening. Not really BDO related, but it was part of the same experience.
Walking down Rundle Mall...a little inebriated and being loud. I asked someone I was walking past "where will I be in 30 minutes????". There was silence, me stumbling on with the boys (including SA Footy's own Barry Dawson) and then the devestating reply "I dunno, where will I be in 30 years...."
Damn you, you little 17 year old prick!
I realised now, I have become one of 'Them'.
