Coldplay

Yes, music now has its very own forum!

I met Chris Martin in 2001, maybe 2001 in the bottom level of the Hilton Adelaide. I spoke to him for around half an hour and it was great. I imagined him being older than me but was 6 months younger. I was half cut so my speech was slurred.

He asked if was going to the concert the following night and in my half cut state I said I couldn't afford tickets - not telling him I had actually forgotted they were here. I did like Parachutes a lot.

So he took out a business card and asked for my name. I told him, and he wrote it on there, with a "plus four" after it. To cut a long story short, I had my name on the door and took along four friends. It was great.

But, alas, I can't stand them now. The music is bordering on elevator muzak, and the singing sounds like a background singer, or male Enya. Every song, to me, sounds the same.

The soft songs on Parachutes were better ten fold than the songs out now. And where are the heavier songs? "Shiver" was, and still is, probably my favourite Coldplay song. Where has the guitar sound gone? I can see it in the film clips - just not in my ears.

I DO Feel old these days, even though I'm only a year and a half from 30. My musical tastes are almost set in stone, and not much "new" stuff seepss through the gaps into my daily listening. I love my old stuff, The Doors, Beatles, Allman Brothers, Deep Purple. I love older than that, with old blues, jazz - I have a lot of Miles Davis, Coltraine, Ellington and co. I love a lot of 90's music, mainly due to me being 13 to 23 in that decade. Pearl Jam were and are still my favourite band ever. Faith No More are great, but more so Mike Patton himself. Mr Bungle, Fantomas and every other Patton related project, gold.

Ok, it was a tangent - I'm sorry. But I get frustrated with people telling me I'm living in the past - and that I should listen to music of today. Bah. Music of today is made for today onwards. People in 50 years might be listening to it. Just because it's out now, doesn't mean I have to listen to itnow.

So, yeah, I don't care much for Coldplay these days.

Actually - just as a wrote it REB, I thought that as well.
Today's music is almost like fast food.
Old music is like a banquet, or beautiful cuisine; you'll talk about it for a long time (if it's any good!) and remember it.

Come on Fellas, you're being a bit harsh and old fashioned.
I'm sure that bloody Crazy Frog song will still be stuck in my head in 20 years time!

Wedgie, I will personally shoot you in the head myself if you have that in your head.

(Actually I won't, I wouldn't want to to miss North's next flag)

Did anyone see Today this morning? Apparently Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay as Viva La Vida is a rip off of Satriani's 2004 If I could fly. Satriani's lead goes note for note along with the Coldplay song. It's gonna cost em thousands I reckon. LMAO.

Yes and no. There was as much crap in the past as there is now, just that the crap in the past has been long forgotten/ignored in the same way that you say the current crap will be forgotten/ignored in 30 years time
