Operator Please

I have to say that these gals & guys are a breathe of fresh air on the music scene.
I took an instant liking to the song "Get What You Want" (hearing it on the Virgin ad), & there performance at the ARIAS last night was the highlight for me.
They have talent written all over them, & I thought the vocalist/guitarist handles her vocals superbly.

I'd much rather them have taken home 5 awards than silverchair....

Nick Cave was the highlight of last night. The rest of the show was a car wreck.

I realise that Operator Please are no "Velvet Undergound original pressing vinyl", so therefore not your cup of tea, but do you agree they are a talented bunch of musicians?

Certainly better than "The Chair" and "The Finger".

Operator Please ... hmmm

Ok I guess? Weird though. Weird song, didn't seem a point to it. I don't know. Might grow on me. What's the average age, like 16?

I liked JBT/Urban at the end, and Nick Cave spending his entire thankyou speech inducting the Bad Seeds and the Birthday Party into the Hall of Fame with him.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

That's my point- I reckon they're producing music way beyond their years.

Maybe.
Looks like the winner of a school band competition to me.

I don't really like music just because someone is producing it beyond their years.. music is music!

:?
I liked their song before I knew anything about the band- the music won me over.
Whilst finding about more about them, I realised that they were still pups.
Last night's performance really impressed me- I thought they were really tight & have got their 5hit together.
I'm hardly gong to go out & get their band name tattooed on my arm, but I they've certainly impressed me in a way I haven't been impressed in a while- whether I like any future material of theirs or not, I really hope they do well.

I love 'em Punky - remind me of Spiderbait when they started. Good solid, not saccharine, pop.

They're playing at the Gov this saturday nighy Btw.

Also loved Nick Cave's speech - although my wife and I discussed the relative merits of it. I thought much of what he said was fair. Although, he still could've been just a teensy bit gracious.

The rest was unenjoyable. But as I was stuck in a hotel room with nought else to do, I had to watch it.

And Rove.....POQ!
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Watch the ARIA's most years. Found this year's fairly "meh". Rove has a knack of pushing things just that bit long, when the joke is already suffocating and struggling for air. Silverchair a good performance though, to temper it.

One thing, though, that stood out clear as a bell with their performance; for all of the hype, for all of the clever marketing to the right audience, and most obviously, for all the mixing - The Veronicas would have to be one of the most overrated, overblown acts in Australia. Somehow, they've sold many hundreds of thousands of albums, when they actually can't sing above the standard of a very early exit from Idol's first two weeks each year.

Haven't heard much of Operator Please, but they reminded me a bit of The Grates watching last night.

I think you're confusing them with "silverchair"...

There was a bit of a scandal about Operator please. They were talked up as a band formed in high school who got big overnight by winning local comps etc but then i heard that 3 of the kids parents are music producers or something to that effect and it perhaps wasnt the fairytale story that they were made out to be but rather a manufactured band. Dont have all the facts tho....regardless a mate who went to splendour said they were the highlight. I was devo when they pulled out of the maximo pak gig. Fortunately they are playing falls tho.

Saw the drummer last night at the Gyroscope gig at Fowlers... Think he was with the Keyboardist also... The young lad looked about 13, was crowd surfing, lost his shirt...... all in good fun
