Speaking of, Belinda Carlisle is coming out next year but she didn't include Adelaide in her previous tour.

The "Rewind 80s Festival" just got canned.

Was gonna head down there for the day and check out the markets.

Sounds pretty dodgy anyway with Fair Trading getting involved...

That festival had the potential, from the word go, for problems - particularly with lineups etc. There weren't enough acts for me to consider going to NSW to see it, but had it come to Adelaide, it may have gotten interesting.

The problem now, is just how many 80's acts are listed as appearing in these sorts of things, and closer investigation reveals that the "band" may actually be only one person who ever played in the group, and a heap of people who never played on a record. Bucks Fizz is a prime example of this in the UK, with legal cases ongoing as to who owns the rights to the name, and two separate acts travelling around playing the songs of the band.

Little River Band has had the same issues for years. Beeb Birtles, Glenn Shorrock and Graham Goble are unable to play under the name "Little River Band" due to, in a moment of weakness many years ago, selling the rights to the name to guitarist Stephen Housden, who was only a member of the band from late 1981. While he co-wrote their last top 10 Australian single, "Love Is A Bridge", he had nothing to do with many of the iconic LRB songs, yet tours under the name of the band, along with Wayne Nelson who at least DID sing on some top 10 songs (Night Owls the most primary of these), and plays most of their iconic songs.

Birtles, Shorrock and Goble now tour under that moniker (BSG) when they actually do play as a unit. Disappointing that they can't use the name that they are most known under. That said, the act touring as 1927 is only lead singer Eric Weideman and a backing band who never played on any past recording, but this has been with the full consent of the original members, which include the Frost brothers. Gary Frost wrote "What About Me", among other well known Australian songs. The current lineup is about to release the first album under the 1927 name for 18 years.

Not strictly a retro tour as such, but one of my old favorites getting back together for a show at the Gov, November 25 - The Cruel Sea
