‘Called Out In The Dark’ is the new single from Snow Patrol, to hit radio on Monday 8th August. ‘Called Out In The Dark’ is the first single from Snow Patrol’s as-yet-untitled 6th studio album, which was recorded with longtime producer Garrett ‘Jacknife’ Lee at his studio in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles, and which will be released later this year.

Snow Patrol’s most recent album was 2009’s ‘Up To Now’, which collected all their classic singles, including ‘Chasing Cars’, ‘Run’, ‘Take Back This City’, and ‘Chocolate’,, plus several new tracks including the hit single ‘Just Say Yes’. ‘Up To Now’ went triple platinum in the UK, where cumulatively Snow Patrol have sold almost 6 million albums (11 million worldwide). The Scottish/Irish five piece comprise of singer songwriter Gary Lightbody, bassist Paul Wilson, guitarist Nathan Connolly, drummer Jonny Quinn and keyboardist Tom Simpson.

28 year old David Garrett, a previous GQ Man of the Year, has been winning over audiences since the release of his debut just two short years ago, topping charts across Asia, Europe and the US with a string of Gold and Platinum albums and was America’s best-selling debut classical artist of 2009.

His technically jaw-dropping performance of “Flight of the Bumblebee,” was recorded in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest-ever performance of the piece (a blistering 66 seconds), wowing crowds the world over.

His debut album David Garrett, debuted at #1 on the US Billboard Classical Crossover Chart, and held the #1 position for nine weeks, remaining in the Top 10 for over 40 subsequent weeks. Rock Symphonies was released in the US late last year, again placing at #1 on the Billboard Crossover chart.

Garrett’s US television appearances in 2010 included Oprah, Good Morning America (two slots) and Jimmy Fallon – and continued into 2011 with consecutive-night appearances on Dancing with the Stars.

As per the Billboard ‘Boxscore’ column, David Garrett has fast become one of the top-grossing Live acts in the world. After performing for over half a million fans across Europe and the US during the past six months, Garret’s sell-out stadium gigs are evidence that he’s breaking the classical mould, attracting an audience that resembles a rock concert more than a classical one.

His brand new album Rock Symphonies, set for an Australian release on August 26, combines Garrett’s unique background in both the classical and rock genres. Until now Garrett has successfully enjoyed separate, dual careers performing and recording with a rock band and classical orchestra – he has released two previous rock albums and two classical recordings - but here, for the first time, he seamlessly morphs the two together.

Mixing new interpretations of his favourite rock anthems by U2, Nirvana, ACDC, Metallica and Aerosmith with classical favourites by Vivaldi and Beethoven, Garrett’s virtuosic violin playing shines through with precision and power. David Garrett began playing violin at age four, and was signed to the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon by thirteen. Without telling his parents, he later fled Germany for New York, where he was accepted at the world famous Juilliard music school, studying under the legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman. As a way to pay the bills, he moonlit as a busboy and model, landing him in the pages of Vogue and the Fashion Week catwalks for Armani. He subsequently has gained international stardom and his charisma, passion and dedication to the violin defy categorisation.

BIOPHILIA ALBUM TO BE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 23 ON ONE LITTLE INDIAN/UNIVERSAL

Björk continues to unveil Biophilia, her most interdisciplinary project to date, with today’s release of the Biophilia App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch and first two album singles “Cosmogony” and “Crystalline” on the iTunes Store. The full Biophilia album will be released on September 23 through One Little Indian/Universal.

The groundbreaking director and longtime Björk collaborator Michel Gondry is also creating a music video for “Crystalline,” which will be premiered on YouTube today.

Biophilia is a multi-media project, comprising a studio album, an app, a new website, custom-made musical instruments, live shows, and educational workshops. Björk has collaborated with app developers, scientists, writers, inventors, musicians, and instrument makers to create a unique exploration of the universe and its physical forces—particularly those where music, nature and technology meet. The project is inspired by and explores these relationships between musical structures and natural phenomena, from the atomic to the cosmic.

Biophilia comprises five elements:
I. ALBUM:
The songs from Biophilia will be released as a traditional 10-track studio album digitally and physically on September 23. The songs’ subject matter is the natural world. The album was produced by Björk. (The songs also will be featured in the Biophilia App, but with a more stripped-down structure, mixed by Damian Taylor and Björk for educational and gaming purposes.) There will be five physical versions of the album: on CD in distinct jewel-case and digipak versions; on vinyl; and on two custom-made editions, the Biophilia Manual, which presents the music in a 48-page hardbound, cloth-covered, thread-sewn book, and the Ultimate Edition, which includes the Manual along with 10 chrome-plated tuning forks, each representing the tone of a track on the album, all in a lacquered and silkscreened oak hinged-lid case.

II. APP:
The Biophilia App serves as a platform within which each of the album's ten songs will become available as special audiovisual features via In-App Purchase in intervals leading up to the album's release. The free app includes an introduction to the Biophilia App project, interactive elements and the first audiovisual feature, “Cosmogony." The second audiovisual feature, “Crystalline,” is now available via In-App Purchase.

Each feature has its own theme (in connection with its corresponding song) and combines a natural element with a musicological feature. The layers of content in each feature include: an interactive game based on the song’s scientific and musical subject matter, a musical animation of the song, an animated score, lyrics, and an academic essay. The game enables the user to interact with musical elements of the song and to learn about different musical features while creating their own version; the musical animation and animated music score bring together conventional and innovative ways of representing music visually; and the academic essay explores the ideas behind each song and feature and how they are realized musically.

The Biophilia App and its features have been developed with a team chosen by Björk, comprising ten of the most groundbreaking and commercially successful app developers working today. The team is lead by Scott Snibbe Studio, creator of the bestselling apps Gravilux and Bubble Harp, and includes the creator of Sim City, TouchPress (pioneering designers behind the two top grossing apps Elements and Solar System), and a host of award winning designers, animators and leading experts in coding and encryption.

III. LIVE SHOWS:
The Biophilia live show had its world premiere on June 30 as part of the Manchester International Festival and continues as a three-year tour of six-week residencies in eight international cities. In each city, Björk will perform twice a week, playing a set of custom-built musical instruments and evoking an atmosphere similar to being inside each feature in the app. For the rest of the week, the venues will host a series of music-education workshops in collaboration with local schools.

Björk has commissioned a set of unique musical instruments to accompany her on the live tour. The team who created these instruments includes an English inventor, an Icelandic organ builder, and a recent graduate of MIT Media Lab. Among these creations are four 10-foot pendulum-harps, in which the swinging motion plucks the strings and illustrates the songs’ gravitational subject matter. Other instruments played in the show include a 10-foot pin barrel harp called the Sharpsichord, a midi-controlled pipe organ and celeste (re-fitted with bronze gamelan bars), twin musical tesla coils, and a Hang; an award-winning 24-piece Icelandic female choir rounds out the ensemble. The Biophilia live show takes place in carefully chosen spaces and museums rather than traditional music venues. Björk will perform in the round to audiences of fewer than 2,000 people to create an intimate experience in which all audience members are within 20 feet of the stage.

IV. DOCUMENTARY:
A 90-minute documentary on the Biophilia project is currently being filmed by Pulse Films. This exploration of Björk’s creative process as she puts together the different elements of the project will show her at work in the rehearsals for the live show and in the studio working on the album, along with observational footage, interviews, and demonstrations. The climax of the film will be the unveiling of her project at the Manchester International Festival. The documentary will be broadcast later in the Biophilia campaign.

On the eve of the release of their first full-length effort, the freshly minted Moonfire, Boy & Bear will hold a free performance as part of the iTunes Live from Sydney series.

On Wednesday 3rd August, Sydney fans will have an opportunity to attend a live, acoustic and intimate performance by Boy & Bear as part of the iTunes Live from Sydney series. Fans are advised to head to the Boy & Bear’s Facebook page for further information on how to attain tickets to this exclusive event. Limited tickets will also be available at the door on the night a first come first served basis. Doors open at 8.30pm.

The performance will commence at 9.00pm and a recording of the performance will be made available exclusively on iTunes later this year. The session will include songs from Moonfire, including first single and triple j favourite ‘Feeding Line’ and the brand new single ‘Milk & Sticks’.

Already armed with a swag of accolades including the 2010 triple j Unearthed award, Rolling Stone’s 2011‘Artist to Watch’ award and a top 5 inclusion in the triple j Hottest 100, the band locked themselves away in Nashville with producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, White Stripes, The Shins), to record Moonfire. The album is a beautiful evolution from their highly acclaimed debut EP, With Emperor Antarctica.

Boy & Bear will return to the stage at the end of this month, performing once again at Splendour in the Grass. The band will depart Australia on the release of their album for a coveted performance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza.

NOEL GALLAGHER RELEASES THE ALBUM “NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS” THROUGH SOUR MASH RECORDS IN OCTOBER


Noel Gallagher can confirm that his brand new album “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds” - the first of TWO albums which have recently been completed – will be released through his own label, Sour Mash Records in October.

The album, his debut as a solo artist, was recorded in London and completed in Los Angeles during 2010 and the first half of 2011. It was co-produced by Noel and David Sardy, with whom Noel has worked previously. It features ten brand new tracks. The first single from the album is “The Death Of You and Me”. The track will be serviced to media on August 1.

Guests on the album include The Crouch End Festival Chorus and The Wired Strings (full list below).

A second album, a companion to the above but as yet untitled, was recorded in the UK this year and is now complete. This album is the result of Noel’s continued collaboration with the Amorphous Androgynous, and will be released in 2012.

Taylor Swift was the big winner at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, taking home six new surfboard trophies, including the show’s biggest honour - the Ultimate Choice Award. Taylor’s six wins bring her total career Teen Choice wins to 13 (Taylor’s lucky number!), making her the most-honoured winner in the history of the Teen Choice Awards.
Taylor, whose Ultimate Choice award presentation included an introduction by her friend Emma Stone and a touching video tribute, received the coveted award in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the music and entertainment industry. The discretionary award is not handed out every year, and past honorees include Justin Timberlake, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, and Reese Witherspoon.
Taylor also won surfboards last night for Choice Female Artist, Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon, Choice Breakup Song (for “Back To December”), Choice Country Artist, and Choice Country Single (for “Mean”).
Taylor flew overnight to Los Angeles from Philadelphia to attend the awards, after making the fifth stadium stop on the US portion of her Speak Now World Tour.

THE OFFICIAL RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011 ALBUM
‘World In Union’


The world’s biggest-selling soprano, Hayley Westenra, launches The Rugby World Cup 2011 Official Album, entitled World In Union, to be released on Decca (a Division of Universal Music Operations Limited) in September.

The new Rugby World Cup 2011 album opens and closes with the title track ‘World In Union’ (based on Jupiter from Holst’s Planets Suite) – which has, over the years, been adopted as the global anthem for all Rugby World Cups. This rousing theme has become the only enduring official song for a major international sports event that is recorded anew for each Tournament, this year’s choice being the hosting nation’s own Hayley Westenra. This coincides with Hayley celebrating 10 years in the music industry.

The 24-year-old singer follows in the footsteps of another of the country’s most celebrated singers, fellow New Zealander Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, who topped the charts with her version for Rugby World Cup 1991.

Hayley has not only recorded the song in English and Maori, as heard on this album, but also in Italian, French and Japanese – each version is expected to be heard played in the relevant countries.

The album continues with 20 more stirring tracks from around the globe, featuring some of the world’s most successful singers, that will both unite and inspire.

Representing ENGLAND is “the Nation’s Favourite Tenor” Alfie Boe with The Band of the Coldstream Guards performing the rousing Jerusalem, and rising star Laura Wright with her tender, acoustic version of Swing Low, a great rugby anthem that is also contrastingly performed by Russell Watson. For SCOTLAND the song Now’s The Time, based on the tune of Loch Lomond, is here sung by Scottish Tenor Luigi Corvi. The traditional Flower of Scotland is also featured, performed by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. From WALES we have none other than The Fron Male Voice Choir with Land Of My Fathers, as well as music from Bryn Terfel and Katherine Jenkins. And IRELAND brings its official song Ireland’s Call featuring Brian Kennedy representing the North and Paul Byrom the South, and introduces new Irish songstress, Mairead, with her rendition of The Fields Of Athenry.

Also included is a recording from International superstar violinist André Rieu from HOLLAND, with singer Mirusia Louwerse from AUSTRALIA. From AFRICA comes The Kenyan Boys’ Choir, and Roberto Alagna represents FRANCE with his version of the French National Anthem.

Rugby World Cup 2011 will be the largest sporting event ever to be held in New Zealand, with over 85,000 visitors expected to flock from overseas – but wherever you are in the world, this album will provide the perfect soundtrack.
