Los Angeles, Late Seventies. Witness the punk scene explode over there, live fast, and then die young

1969/70
why because all the great sounds coming out of the states and the UK. The Beatles where slowly breaking up. Woodstock was happening, The doors were kicking off so was CCR. It was just that time in music that I have always loved to listen to. I really would love to go back from 1965 to 1972 just for all that music I listen to and to see all those bands.

1980..to prevent the deaths of Bon Scott, John Bonham and John Lennon
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Recalled Radio Birdman only last week (prompted by local community radio 4ZZZ). Downloaded New Race & Zeno Beach immediately & recalled the heady times of the late 70's. (ZZZ followed with some fine Iggy with I just wanna be your dog!).

Reckon my year would have been able to live the birth of punk in the UK (maybe '75-76). Would have been a tad scary, but well worth it.

Joe Jackson
JJ Cale
Blondie
Led Zeppelin
Supertramp
Pink Floyd
ELO
Kiss
Micheal Jackson
The Police
Ry Cooder
Eagles
Madness
Ian Dury and the Blockheads

all released albums, the age of one hit wonders that will never be surpassed, the year Disco started to be replaced by New Wave and the year I bought my first ever 45 'Heart of Glass'.

Might just be me, but they have been one of my favorite bands since I was fairly young, and remain so. That year's album "Breakfast In America" still sounds fresh, but almost became an albatross for them, against which all future releases were measured. A shame, as excellent albums like "Brother Where You Bound" get lost among all of that. "Cannonball" still gets the feet tapping on any of the very rare times it gets played on radio.

1974's Crime of the Century was much better. Bloody well right.

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

1987. Was in Year 9,and was really starting to forge my own taste in music by this point, after a long time listening to Mum and Dad's collection. Discovered Icehouse's "Man Of Colours", U2's "The Joshua Tree" (which would play a real role in my music taste until it got badly, badly overplayed by radio), Guns 'N' Roses' "Appetite For Destruction" (will never forget the first time I heard "Welcome To The Jungle" - dragged me right in), and one of my all time favorites still - "Hysteria" by Def Leppard"

INXS release "Kick", John Cougar Mellencamp's "The Lonesome Jubilee" shows me a side of America that I wasn't that familiar with at that age, and an album that really shaped my life for years to come, "Diesel and Dust" by Midnight Oil. I'd never bought an instrumental album until Joe Satriani hooks me in with "Surfing With The Alien".

Incidentally, two bands at polar opposites of the musical spectrum also form - 1927 and Nirvana.

The Electric Pandas also break up :)
