how does that work with your club having to be at two different ovals on the same day, supporters trainers etc and people to help out with the catering and stuff

Seems pretty useless scheduling when Cove play Flaggies in all 3 junior grades yet have the 14s at one track and 16s/18s at another!

However, great to see 4 Flaggy sides in Saturday finals Round 1!

Doesn't it go on ladder positions not convenience.

It goes on the fact our LEAGUE [as do many others] dont want any A GRADE side having the home ground advantage during the finals. You would think your position on the ladder at the end of home and away season may warrant you having EARNT a home final eg. AFL, SANFL etc. but not in the SFL, we are different, we dont make it easy for clubs, we go out of our way to make it difficult, by putting clubs all over the southern area, and each ground is going to want their admission money aren't they.

Some common sense with making life easier for volunteers surely would not be a bad thing though!

Only a few grounds are up to hosting a grade finals, why should a handful of clubs get the luxury of a home final.

Because they deserve a home final because they earn't it by finishing in the position they did.
Most of the the grounds that are getting finals are not in great nick anyway.

Probably because Brighton isn't considered one of the better ovals in the league, and rightly so.

Edwardstown because you can't park around the oval, which generates very little atmosphere.

As for Marion, I'm unsure. Nice big ground with good facilities. Have hosted finals, but not in recent years.

You cant fence off HV either but I reckon it is more about the clubs putting their hands up to do it - it is a whole lot of work to provide gate, bar, bbq, canteen etc for a big crowd. That is one of the reasons Valley stopped doing the 20/20

SFL affiliation fees are quite low due to the big money they make on Finals Gate takings. The SFL control the gate in finals, not the host club. Only certain grounds are adequately set up to capture those attending either by car or foot. Although most grounds have secret entry points by foot if you know them. The same grounds have hosted finals for several years now and their hasn't been much change as to what particular final(s) that each hosts. eg. Noarlunga have hosted the 1 vs 4 qualifying final and Aldinga the 2 vs 3 qualifying final for a few years in a row from memory. And Porties and Christies usually are the Prelim venues.

Thats nice coming from the grassless Flagstaff Hill. You guys don't like Brighton because you haven't won there since 1997. Thats 14 years Specky - count them. Brighton does get muddy due to turf cricket pitch and not the greatest drainage but when we have had a few days of no rain we have one of the best surfaces in the league (just don't fall over in the centre square). At least our ground is a perfectly shaped oval and we do have a grandstand. Pure and simple it is due to access and also other sports needing access to the complex such as lacrosse, rugby, croquet and even the pigeon club. The other reason, when you have so many sides playing finals, trying to host a final is a tough gig for your volunteers. I'm sure Shoe Boy will testify about the pressures on Noarlunga this Saturday, hosting a final, with their A & B grade playing at Aldinga on the same day.

Quite defensive there DTH;

I do like your if's and but's argument though.

IF we didn't have a turf cricket pitch we would have one of the best surfaces in the league. Guess what? You do have a turf pitch, which makes life pretty difficult when running through the corridor. I'm sure the two 50M arcs are beautiful though!

IF it doesn't rain we would have one of the best surfaces in the league. Last time I checked footy was a winter sport. Rain is inevitable during the winter months, which turns your oval into a bog and the centre wicket into an ice skating rink.

IF we had better drainage, etc, etc we get the story.

I must admit though, that the grandstand and midget goalposts do add greatly to the character of the place.

haha - those mini goal posts are a joke!!!

c'mon who is winning on the weekend and why?

Brighton will be too good and will play off in the GF!

Reynella will win if they stop Golding, i reckon S.Smith would be a cracker of a a match up.. Massively important match as the loser has to make the GF the HARD way (by beating the bombers, if they make it that far) massive game.
Hopefully it's as good as the Reynella Vs M.Vale game at Aldinga last year, one of the best i;ve seen at SFL level, it was a shoot out!

Probably for the first time since the final 8 began, you can mount a case for any team winning this weekend.

I know the 2 Division argument has been done to death and we all have our opinions but the depth in the SFL in 2011 has been better than recent years. Teams like Cove and E'Town would have made finals in previous years so the final 8 are all worthy of being there. At least 10 wins was required to make the finals which is probably also a first since the 8 began.

Should be some cracking games...

Brighton to win a close game with the return of Rigney getting them over the line. Emu's do have a mental edge over Bombers though and everyone know's they lift a cog or two in September.

Shoe's form has been far better than Flie's of late but gut feeling says Flie's in a close one.

Valley's to beat Roo's comfortably.

Porties bigger bodies to beat Flaggie's - could be a year early for the Falcons to make an impact.
