Under 15s - SFL came from behind to tie it up with a couple of minutes to go, but amateurs kicked a couple of quick goals from there

Seniors - amateurs won the 2nd quarter by about 7 goals. Other 3 quarters were a lot closer. SFL lost the rucks and the centre clearances nearly all day. Joel Campbell from Gepps Cross easily best on ground for amateurs

Amateurs picked McKenzie as best player for SFL.

Under-17's ----- Amateurs bolted out of the blocks with four of the first five goals. Then Southern dominated the second quarter. Ended up winning comfortably.
Jake Veide (son of Bernie) was terrific --- unanimous choice as best player

Joel Campbell goes okay, a few years back was on Melbourne's rookie list, his brother Matt plays for the Kangaroos and there are a couple more running around in North Adelaide's junior teams

If all those players wanted to play and didnt want to have a week off that would be a very good side - well thought out SnB.
I went and watched the game at Theby oval - bloody big oval and the Ameteurs were big fit and well drilled and smashed us in the midfield but to Southerns credit they really had a real go in the second half and were competative.
Was suprised of the form of young Browny from Christies and Curyer from Lonsdale - they go ok.

Curyer laid a couple of smashing tackles. Heard a comment from the bench at one stage that unlike a lot of his teammates Curyer wasn't making mistakes under the pressure from the amateurs.

Hopefully a few of the Aldinga boys were there to see Lynch pull on the runner's gear after Angove was shown the red card.

Im pretty sure the average age of the SFL team was under 23.This league has plenty of good players who are older than 23
and that if we played an open age game we would also be very competative,I think this happened the 1st time we played this format 4 years ago and we won by about 5 goals. So to say that they would trash us is rubbish.Your u18 team have only beaten us once in the 3 times that we have played which i think is poor when you consider how many teams you have to pick from.
If the only reason you play is for a beer with your mates after the game, your playing for the wrong reasons !!

This is about the fifth year the SAAFL U23 team has played the SFL. SFL have won one game. SFL open would go nowhere near an open SAAFL team. Open age is a very different beast to U18. Most of the good players are at league clubs at that age but usually return to the amateur league if they don't make it.

 I put this on the Hackham forum in error (most of them would know the circumstances anyway). Meant to put it here, so here goes --
I still reckon Scott Kelly is about as low as they come in terms of coaching integrity, but my latest mail suggests we may have been a bit harsh on the other Kellys. The latest word is that Dave is injured and intends to play on, while Paul was finding it difficult to carry on through wear and tear of the body and was retiring anyway.
Lets hope they still get Dave back in action. The Hawks would really benefit from it.
One thing that is already looking good ---- Bob McMahon (caretaker at this stage) --- is getting good numbers back out to training after attendance was really plummetting under the former coach.
It all could end up a blessing in disguise.

As said before and i agree sfl at full strength would not get near a full strength saafl side.In saying that though and we need to remember that there is a hell of alot more players playing in that league compared to running around in the sfl.
