We lost by a goal to Aldinga, had more of the ball, more scoring shots, and no, not a full side, mind you, i don't think anyone brought their full side.
Our captain was playing at AAMI stadium for SA country while our vice captain was (this is kinda embarrassing) at his sister's 21st birthday party.
We were competitive, but it was all about the team gelling with new players, i think there were about 10 in the starting 18 who hadn't played for Berri the year before.
The umpiring was terrible, but trial games are trial games.
The game between Lonsdale and Aldinga was anything but a friendly, a few Lonsdale players using extremely dirty tactics, pretty disgraceful really.
Also overheard the Lonsdale coach pep talk after the game urging players to take heads if they were beaten in a contest twice, lay as many punch tackles as possible, and sink the knees in coz the opposition would if given the chance.
There wasn't a word about getting the football at all.
Despite that, our game against the lions was a good, fair encounter.
Mustn't have listened to the coach.
Disgraceful.

Your kidding me aren't you mate Lonsdale were the discrace i was at that game sat from what i saw an Aldinga player dropped his knees into a lions back and his team mates flying the flag for him are you telling me your players wouldn't do the same for there team mates would hate to play for your club if thats the case. Also heard that pep talk i think you took it the wrong way the coach was simply implying his players make there opponent earn each and every kick it wasn't go round knocking heads off and if you did watch those first 2 games you would have noticed how the lack of pressure on the opposition was what really let Lonsdale down so i think that that was a reasonable request from the coach

With the forum being pretty slow i thought i might have a go at the ladder. Here we go:

Morphett Vale
Reynella
Cove
Brighton
Happy Valley
Port Noarlunga
Flagstaff Hill
Lonsdale

Marion
Aldinga
Noarlunga
Christies Beach
Morphettville Park
Hackham

With Morphett Vale and Reynella playing off in the GF with the end result being a new premier.

Anyone else have some thoughts?

Let's hope you guys are right, I'm sick of MV wining the big one! i reckon valleys will be good this tear too - any word on brighton. I wonder how they will travel?

I have heard MV wont be as strong as the last few years, but i guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm sure their younger brigade will step up.

why does the season start so late. craziness i reckon, it's still 2 weeks away.

Will be interesting to see how Valleys go this year. They looked like a real danger coming into finals last season then were bounced out in straight sets pretty easily. Apparently Beardy is off to jervoi$ but if Kovacic is playing then he will be a more then able replacement. Still think the lack of big guys will hurt them once again come september.

Seems to be pretty quiet coming out of reynella lately. Think they might even take the title of early season flag favourite with their new recruits.

not sure why no-one ever rates Porties. havent they been prelim finalists the last few seasons? Think they have picked up a couple of recruits as well. I reckon they will finish at least top 4.

Your kidding aren't you Magic Man? I respect you for trying to stand up for your club but there is no doubt in what was said by your coach and the team mentality showed it.

The knees in the back, as for that the umpires were supplied by your club and ours and both ways I will admit were pretty average and either way some silly timing and judgement calls were made. It was clear that Lonsdale couldn't handle being beaten by Aldinga which is the same as its always been, when behind thug it out. Proud to say Aldinga will not adopt that attitude and think poorly of Lonsdale for trying to do that especially against some 17 year olds trying to come through the ranks. Was good to see Aldinga have 13 scoring shots to Lonsdales legitamate 2 in 40 minutes of footy. Look forward to the season lets hope you boys can learn to play the footy eventually.

AFL, I heard that Brighton picked up Craig Staham(ex Bays HB)...maybe some one on this forum can confirm? They have recruited a few I hear, so they should improve. + they normally get a few kids spat out from the bay resies or 19's
Your right though friday the 18th is miles away..I think this year looks to be a cracker.. top four will be pretty handy sides.

Come footy season Lonsdale will belt Aldinga.

The quality of players that were not in the 20/20 team will make up the difference. In saying that, im sure Aldinga had some "guns" out too.

How can you say the team mentality showed what the coach had said when that talk was given to the side before their LAST game? As Silicone Skyline said, their contest against lonsdale was hard and fair and so was lonsdale's game against berri. Aldinga V Lonsdale was first game and BOTH clubs showed thugish behaviour - obviously not helped by having unofficial umpires who couldn't control the game. Aldinga played the better footy over 40 minutes and they won. Thats footy. But like Magic man said, the comments from the coach were taken the wrong way by some people outside of the team. The players knew exactly what he was talking about and from all accounts the berri contest affirmed this. At the end of the day it was just a 20/20 trial and we all look forward to seeing Aldinga once again be unable to back up their arrogance on these forums come the season proper!

I don't think this has anything to do with arrogance. I was not only relating to this particular speech but also for the way Lonsdale held themselves over the entire day. I listened in on half time breaks and feel in some cases it works to try and out muscle your opponent, I just think they got shown thats not the way footy is especially in a 20/20 situation.

I watched several times as cheap shots that have come from well known Lonsdale players not only in one game but many. As it points out they did play some better footy throughout the day and well done. But with only managing one draw it shows that the way the game is meant to be played quick and skillful not thuggish could not help Lonsdales style of play at all and is why Aldinga and others were beneficial with not getting dragged into that crap. Everyones got an opinion and I to am very interested with the season games.

I guess some ppl on here will never lighten to the fact that Aldinga are adapting to the league even if it does take a long time to come, its all for the best.

Lost a few and gained a few... As you say time will tell how much the Emu's have improved, i see that Reynella, Brighton and Porties in particular have improved their lists so if they are to go top again the new playing group will have to have improved also. In my opinion they will be stronger than last years team in which they ended up going undefeated, but having said that overall (speaking of the top sides) i believe the standard may have plateau'd or slightly went backwards last year.

I seen Tyler nearly take off one of our young kids heads and again in the later game, also Baxter threw a few punches in more than one game, some of which were provoked some not. Im not here to name names as a club we went down there to portray a good club name and standard and feel that there is no need for some of that crap. I love the hard ball dont get me wrong thats what footies about but as for the same old act its getting a bit boring.
