Hilly is naturally fit so i'm sure he will have a good season, great to have him back especially after he had been heavily courted by a number of clubs, shown good character to stay at Morphies... I'm certain he would have been disappointed to miss the last 2 GF's so i'd reckon he will be keen as for the upcoming season...

What has Hilly been playing or doing the last few seasons? Last time i saw him play was juniors at M/Vale and for someone of his size i thought he was quite soft. Interesting to hear he may be on a wing. Is he still built and tall or has everyone caught up with him?

There are 2 Hillys. Theres a Shane Hill and an Aaron Hill. Aaron has always been a skinny guy if i recall correctly and was at South from a very young age. Shane is the stockier one but also plays on a wing. Aaron the one that got BOG in a Gf 3 years ago but did his knee a couple of times i believe!

Missed last season with a knee reco... Is regarded as one of the most influential players in the competition by the majority of the coaches, absolute gun.. Finished at South after the U/19's, played association and finished high up in the Mail medal and yes BJ he won the BOG in the 2005 GF... Played all season in 2006 and had an opponent fall across his knee in the prelim final when kicking the ball against Happy Valley at Christies and hence the knee reco, couldn't have it done straight away and missed all last season. Very courageous, quick and tall for a wingman...

So Morphies will be even more dominant this season. I do remember him winning the BOG in 2005, very unlucky to miss the last two premierships by the sounds of things, hope he doesn't do it again.

Emu's are certainly the benchmark - they're well into a dynasty now. Speaking with a few of the lads last week and their attitude is magnificent. No big money out there and there's a real focus on supporting the junior lads through the grades, the success may continue for years to come yet. Also had a chat with a few of the Reynella boys and they're pretty keen to kick off 2008. They have spent some big bucks in the hope of knocking Morphett Vale off their perch. Some of the boys aren't too over the moon with what's been spent... there will be a lot of pressure on those paid players to perform. Time will tell if its a worth while exercise $$$$$.

Hardly been an outstanding contributer to their A grade anyway, should be easily replaced by an up and coming junior of which Christies should have. Surely Meekins' last year...??[/quote]

Think you are right Mex, word has it Brett Thomson has the job for 2009 already and possibly earlier if Meekins doesnt get results.

this is Meekins last year whether they end up bottom or win the flag.
whoever takes over next year has been getting groomed for the change over since the start of the 07 season.

Why is it Meekins last year is the club unhappy with his progress or has he lost interest or does the club just want Mason in charge.

Pretty sure you will find that it will be Brett Thompson taking over from Meekins next year, Thommo will be a good coach with modern ideas.

thommo is a great bloke, but staying around for the year is a different thing.

I remember him leaving Lonsdale when things got tough.........

I rate him as a coach tho. Pitty he didnt stay with Lonsdale. They MAY be stonger now if he had of stayed.

it has been public knowledge that Tony is calling it quits after this year.
he has been coaching for 20 odd years and wants to move on, but in saying that we all know he will still give 100% to this season.
i would say it more than likely will be Brett but that will be his decision. Remember there would be other people interested in the Christies job.......................Chris Groom comes to mind, maybe..........ex player i think.
I feel you are suggesting that Tony is not a modern coach roo32, he might have been out of top flight footy for 5 or so years (SANFL State U/16 coach 2000, involved with South, Level III accredited) but Tony can still put it up to the other coaches on the sene.

Question: what are Lonsdale going to do when their oval is closed down.....amalgimate?

I have been told they are safe on that oval even if the School does close. May even get some help from the Council aswell apparently..

thats good to hear Junior.
might be able to turn one of the school buildings into a good club house.
get onto the council as soon as you hear anything. Mind you, they probably are already planning something........................dont get left out.

Not sure what exactly you are referring to there Burglar, I was only commenting that Thommo will make a great coach, has a good footy brain. I cant really comment on Tonys senior coaching ability, only his junior coaching which was pretty good.
