I think you will find both clubs are excited but will not be taking anymore out of it than a normal trial. Its both clubs first hitout so lets be honest both sides will be rusty as and the standard will not be as good as we would see in Rd10. That said its a great advertisement for local football, so kudos to the South Adelaide Football Club.

morphies vs willunga play twice , so the mexican says!

The Mexican's mail is normally spot (Don't consult Leg Rope on this one though) on BRD so we'll have to wait and see...

Yes, Morphies play the Demons twice and also play Langhorne Creek @ Langhorne Creek...

I think you might find that Morphies only play Willunga once. Think one of the trials has been cancelled (not the AFL curtain raiser)

Also heard that the local messenger are going to really build this trial up and i think their is talk of making this an annual event i.e the premier of SFL play the premier of GSFL.

We must be getting the same mail swooper. Heard there will be a front cover of the messenger article in the next few weeks.
with the usual picture of both captains holding the "cup". Im pretty sure the messenger are looking into the cup being an annual thing (as swooper said- GSFL premier vs SFL premier every year) and calling it the "SOUTHERN SHOWDOWN"

Not a bad idea for a bit of fun. we will have to see how this year goes to see if it will be taken on board or seen as a mickey mouse type of thing. Cant see it not being taken up by all involved.

So my question is about playing this game at the start of the next season ?
seems a bit silly really as the teams could change dramatically over the pre-season.
and yes i have considered that there is not much time at end of season either but it would make more sense to play it in the same year?

I agree it would make more sense to play it at the end of the season, fortnight after the Grand finals? You need to start somewhere and trial these matches, see how much interest they generate before we start asking premiership teams to back up a Grand Final by playing another game to become southern champions.

What do we all think about having the two premiership sides playing off a fortnight after the grand finals? Pro's and con's?

Surely you could still party hard, a week on the piss wouldn't have instant affect on your fitness, couple of training sessions the week of the game, will this work?

I can see your point hardly_super but surely would be impossible. When youve just finished the season and won a flag the last thing you would feel like doing is playing another game a few weeks later. plus all the celebrations last at least that long in themselves.
Not sure what the answer is but surely as a bit of fun the SS (southern showdown) has it merits as a specticle but thats about it.

Im sure people will write loads of stuff regarding the winner of this game (myself included) but in all seriousness the leagues can never really be compared because "serious" footy is never going to be played with both leagues involved. so it is hard to make comparisons etc.

The only way to seriously compare the two leagues was the association games that have been canned. Whether its played before or after the season there will always be excuses as to why a team lost.

Even the association games werent taken serious by some blokes so that even isnt a good way to compare.
Of coarse everyone has excuses and reasons of why their league is the best (SAAFL, SFL, GSFL, etc) because we all want to believe we played/play in the best league there is. That is why this forum is so much fun debating. The more of these trail interleague games we play the more things we have to comment on. so bring it on...... Go emus/SFL!!!!

Hardly Super im here for ya buddy.

I know from Willungas point of view we had probably had enough by the GF. To win the last one was so big we were over footy and into party mode well and truly. U couldnt do it after the season it would just be too hard. Footy Trips are arranged, People are giving time to there families etc.

Before the season for a bit of a mickey mouse thing is still fun but there wouldnt be a way to get the 2 premiers to play other than a pre season game.

Im goin with Micky Conlan and a few others, BRING BACK THE LOVELOCK SHIELD.

ps, then i still get to pants ya Hardly Super :D

BJ and HARDLY,

There is lot of man love flying between you guys, maybe your own private chatroom is called for!

As for the Southern showdown, would there be any interest after the season from other clubs that were not involved? Would it be A grade or could all grades, including juniors be involved?

Now Now dont be a Heath Ledger basher like that religious freak on the radio this morning!

good idea Brock whole day of the best VS the best!

it seems the more this forum goes on the more people want this elusive "Premier Leage" just an observation though critics on how much we all want to see two top notch local sides go all out and entertain us...

That's what all the girls say. I'm pretty sure it's just a excuse though.

You'd think having a Southern Championship day would be in South Adelaide's interest too. Especially with the juniors. They get to see the best juniors from each league competing against each other

Problem is though that the SFL run U/14's, U/16's and U/18's were as the GSFL run Junior Colts and Senior Colts what is the age cut off for those colts is it younger then 18's?

The concept seems OK this year because the Emus and Demons have maintained their premiership teams pretty much intact but had Langhorne Creek got up in the GSFL the match would be irrelevant because the Creek have turned over heaps of players. The 2008 Hawks will be a completely different team to the 2007 version.

If you played the match after the season it would take the gloss off the premiership for the loser. It wouldn't be same if you didn't win the last game of the year. In that case it would effectively make the current GF's semi finals for the chance to play in the big one. Really the super league idea is better.

The best way to compare leagues is association footy. Southern Districts won the State champs so we know that Southern and Great Southern are the best leagues outside the SAAFL/SANFL. Who is the better league out of SFL and GSFL?
