I'll answer for Magicman here... Does it matter... Lets just say it was extremely well attended, plenty of old faces and even some new, let me also back that up by saying there was no training involved, so this may have been a reason for so many, BUT if these are the numbers that are committing to 08 things are looking OK...

Nice spread in the messenger Fly(er), gee the key position player seemed to have some size about him, with a reasonable set of guns, will be interesting to see his athleticism... Reminded me of Jeff Delyster, i'm sure will look very similar in a Reynella gurnsey...

Had a half page picture and article, headline something like "Reynella shows off Moore recruits"..?? Something similar anyway. It showed Reynella's 4 signature pick ups, the former U/19's South skipper, Moorey, then the 2 blokes from Westies.

Not sure if it is on their website or not..??

It was a good article Fly. I think it is great that the local papers are doing local football stories in the off season.

Just one question Fly, do you know why the Souths under 19 captain has left South and not stayed to play league?

I don't know the bloke and haven't seen him play, but it is a similar scenario to the U/19's that return to our club every year i would imagine. It boils down to the fact that South don't give these guys a go at a higher level to see if they can make it. They can obviously play the game otherwise they would not be selected to a leadership position. Would rather go down the track of VFL or ex AFL players. Morphies had the Best and Fairest and runner up for the U/19's in the season just past... Will be interesting to see where they end up, i know both are training with South at the moment and 1 has been invited to train with Port Power... Time will tell...

i reckon you are spot on mexican - it seems they are doing something majorly wrong down at panther land - they should be looking after and developing these juniors. they certainly don't - from what i've heard.

I kinda thought that would be the reason. Having been involved with juniors at another SANFL club during the 90's I saw the same thing happening all the time. I have also seen a lot of players from my time there who have gone on and played at SAAFL, SFL and GSFL level and were very good players. I often wondered if they had got their opportunity at league level then maybe the club would have been a lot more successful.

I know it's good for the local clubs to get these players but IMHO itb shows that the players did not leave for money but most likely left for lack of opportunity.

I know a lot of good players that are disgruntled with South because of lack of opportunity. When you see the Panthers wasting their time on players they bring over from interstate, and compare them to players running around in the local leagues you can see why they have been so unsuccessful. Makes you wonder why so many players continue to train with South year in year out and dont try their luck at other clubs. Bachmann would be a good example...apparently going ok at Sturt now when he was at Christies for the taking if South wanted him?
