More police would have helped, the ones that were there that day were over by the club rooms chatting to some spectators when it started. The 2 present had a small conference together and then slow walked over there, meanwhile the fight had spilt onto the ground and held up the match. They cant stop wankers drinking and starting trouble but they could have made more of an effort and show their presence. Maybe the SFL should hire some security (or send over Marty Clifton) so the game can return back to grass roots ovals.

harnas is allright.... And we all make stupid decision when we where younger!

In regards to the crowd at a brighton Porties GF, at least it wont be 300 reynella 300 Mvale fans. As most of us would agree how boring was last years game as far as atmosphere goes! What happened to the days where it was the biggest day of the year!!!

The Gf needs a change and it starts with the under dogs winning this weekend! Hot dogs you better gear up ya lads this week. I wanna see a GF with teams that havent been there in a while. Go you under dogs this week! and congrats to all that have made it this far!

Porties premiers 07 What would that be paying?

I agree TL, Harness is a big girl... Not sure he's worthy to be spoken about on this forum though, so please refrain from naming him in the future..

Yeah Ok 1 person puts a holt to what is a great day because he has soar grapes about losing (And not helping by getting sent off in that match as well) Under age drinkers is another big problem as well I think there was an Ambulance called for a young guy who was probally the drunkest ive ever seen someone. But why shouldn't the league hire Police, Security and under Covers and pay them using the money taken from tickets, BBQ and bar takings that way Porties dont get that advantage and the entire league wins and gets what everyone wants back!

The problem with police presence is that it is now a user pays system. As far as I know the host club is responsible for providing security which is one of the main reasons the GF was moved. The league "hosts" at South so they pay for security. The clubs that cannot hold finals get their chop by having the food and beverage stalls around the ground.

I hear the league will pre-sell tickets for cars around the ground this year. No BYO alcohol allowed which I think was part of the problem in the past. Too many young fellas finishing early in the day and getting stuck in. At least by selling alcohol on site there can be some sort of control over the underage problems encountered in the past.

Unfortunately in this day and age of liability and insurance the GF has outgrown the local grounds and it was probably only a matter of time before someone was seriously hurt either by hand or vehicle. Sad I agree as the GF at Porties was definately a highlight of the sporting year down south.

Reynella MV games during the year pull the biggest crowds of the year its a great day on those Sundays games shows that GF day has no atmosphere at Noarlunga. No cars, No outers and CRAP WEATHER get rid of it BACK TO THE PORT

I think you will find that the league spoke to Porties last year and they would have to underwrite that they would handle all crowd control, underage drinking, ambulance access - being that the main road in stays clear all day for ambos and they said they couldnt handle that.

Take it to Aldinga, more than enough fencing to keep people in and controlled, plenty of parking- next door on the hockey parking spaces long main road for overflow, good oval space and club size to cater for all?

C grade grandy was fantastic down there i hear. They'd be more than willing to supply crowd control and the rest. Help out a struggling club a bit????

Thats my plug over and out. dooooo it.

Get your club to put a proposal to the league, I'm sure that most people would like to play a GF at Shark Park

Thanks FM,
I'll get the feedback from a few more people before we would put in a full proposal, Not being biassed with it I genuinely think it would be great there. alot of maintenance work and upgrades happened this year and would now definately be suitable in 2008.

Let me know what other people think, everyones open to ideas, just to get it away from Noarlunga, as said before its a local venue it needs to bring back the atmosphere. tally ho

Totally agree with you rodney. I'm not involved with Aldinga but it is always an enjoyable drive down there and the oval is in the best 2 or 3 in the league. Might also stop a bit of trouble from the younger guys because if they are underage it would be a lot harder to get home from aldinga. I think its a great idea.
But then again anything is better than SAFC

I think thats the big point whether its Porties, Shoeys or Sharkies the game just needs to go back to an oval with some history and atmosphere Hickinbotham Oval has the history and feeling of a side that has only contested in 1 finals series since they have been there it's just shit!
