good posts Mexican / Dingo

Agree with both of you about the results, but sunday will be close - Lets hope theres no wind.

it's such a disgrace that the GF is not at Porties anymore an absolute shame! i reckon people just decide not to bother coming when it's at noarlunga. you have to pay for booze and can't bring in your car! Bshi#### decision by the SFL. i guess the crows wont be playing this year - but port will be.

lets hope the GF is close, unlike previous years! prelim weekend usually brings the best finals footy.

yeah pretty general everyones thoughts i guess, thats why I'm going for an upset. I think if Mv are ever going to get beaten its going to be this weekend. Porties are not the flashiest of sides but use the ball well and efficiently, if they need quick goals they get them. At home they are always a danger for an upset, all i can say is good luck to both teams I'ts actually good to be interested in these games when your not from any of these clubs its been a long time.

I also think Reynella are to strong for Brighton but with that said if Milos on or off it will make a big difference and Brighton definately are not a shabby side. Going Reynella by 8 points and Porties by 16....yes 16.

And also agree 110% about the Grandy at Noarlunga it certainly has changed the atmosphere.
Good luck on the weekend.

Bayliss may head elsewhere next year, perhaps the SFL. Francis has already expressed interest in his services and if it's the guy i'm thinking of he's been down watching the Bombers play the last two weeks.
So maybe Size would be a good pick up for Encounter Bay.

From all reports he is just having a look around at what may be out there, so I wouldn't get too carried away. He has links with some of the young guys down there and has just been supporting them through finals.

The league make these decisions without any consultation from the clubs, which is unexplainable. 2 years running there were issues with incidents spilling onto the ground and to this day the sole reason was lack of police presence. I'm sure the cops have an idea of how many are required at a community event dependant on people attending, both years there weren't any cops to be seen anywhere, i believe they were radio'd in once trouble had already started the second year it happened. They have got it so wrong in this instance it's not funny. Perhaps they should send out a survey like i saw in the advertiser yesterday asking the footballers their opinions about the comp/league etc along with their preferred GF location. My money would be on Porties would gain atleast 90% of the vote and make the league look even more ridiculous than it already does.

What about a GF at noarlunga (shoes)?

Doesnt hold enough people? Not that it would matter based on attendance last year!

If it went back to a local ground the attendance would go through the roof. Car capacity, atmosphere, quality of oval... Can't beat Porties...

We all agree Porties is the home of GF's in the SFL. Maybe the clubs or players should take more of a stand against the SFL until they consider changing the GF back to Port Noarlunga? Get the club presidents together or something and make them see sense. It is unbelieveable to think the venue can be changed after this many years at Porties without any consultation.

Have heard that Edwardstown are joining the SFL in 2009.

Not too sure about that one to be honest, if the players unanimously voted against it i can't see what will change in 12 months. However it will give the committee more time to sell the idea to it's members and players though, i guess time will tell.

Interesting, isn't 2009 when the SFL are introducing the points system aswell?

I dont think many people in the SFL are too familiar with what this point system is or how its implemented. Perhaps you could give us a quick breakdown FM?? Its being used in the GSFL next season isnt it?

No problems boys - I will do my best, 3 SFL clubs are aware this is happening in 09 - why aren't they all aware, trust me, dont allow it to creep up on you - knowing this is coming should affect recruiting in 08.
The points system is a directive of the SANFL after being used successfully with the Vics. The SANFL want all affiliated leagues to adopt it, the GSFL are doing so next season, clubs have the right to take it or leave it for now however as a directive I think the SANFL have a right to enforce it regardless down the track.

Points system works as such:
Each club can have 35pts to use per game (varies per league).
Every player on your list is worth a particular amount of points, locals and long standing players are worth 1pts, imports from other leagues 2-3pts, SANFL 4pts, AFL 5pts. Current Snr Colts 0pts.
Salary cap is open slather, spend what you want.
You can recruit a 100 players but still you can only play upto the amount of pts your club has for that game keeping in mind you have to field 21 players - depending on the pts new players attract it'd be fair to say 17-18 locals, 3-4 imports. Like the AFL, the lower you finish the more points you get to play with for the next season.

Doing this means clubs have to work hard to retain colts and players, each year the player takes a point off that he stays at your club until he is back to 1pt. Players can leave and come back and if they have played over 25 games for the club or were juniors they are worth 1point only aswell.

This opens the door for players knowing that their current club cant recruit more than for players for asking for more money to play on. Also allows sought after players to ram there prices up as long as they are several clubs first choices.

On the other hand local talent is kept at clubs and poaching isnt an easy task due to rivals not being able to exceed points system, also a lot easier to manage than the salary cap.
Personally I think that for the first 2-3 year after its introduced you wont see much of a change to the clubs finishing top 3/4

Does this all make sense?

What is your thoughts on Porties getting around $10k clear for the grand final (bar takings & food)....is this an unfair advantage for the other clubs....i'm sure any other club would love that type of fundraising event...would certainly help secure additional players via the extra money....I do agree that Noarlunga oval is a disgrace - what about the bay oval ?.....it is certainly a lot better than noarlunga.....i gotta say the issues that were faced at Porties where disgraceful..through lack of police or not.....and the reputation the league copped was pretty bad....I even copped a sly one from a MV supporter at the quarter time huddle in 04......

Sceptism from half and business as usual to others.
In the SFL MV would not give a shit would they, 99.9% are locals who play aren't they? Im really not sure how this will close the gap for other clubs?
