I dont know what all of the other grounds are like at the moment but lonsdale is bloody rock hard. Falling over on it is like hitting the deck on a cheese grater. Lots of bark missing from the players from saturday. I reckon a little bit of the wet stuff could be good just to make them a bit more friendly when ya fall

Didn't see any of the football on the weekend, but i think it is impressive that Flaggies, from the score, looks to have pushed Morphett Vale, would be interested to see the scores throughout the game, whether Morphies got jumped, Flaggies came back or if it was an even contest. All this talk about the uneveness of the comp and yet an undefeated side was put under serious threat from a side that is 10th or 11th on the ladder.
What i think was also good from the scores on the weekend that although Noarlungas season is over that they beat a finalist. Its great to see that sides like Noarlunga and Flaggies, who really didn't have a whole lot to play for on the weekend were able to produce great efforts against sides that are still playing football this week.
And i also think this finals series will be one of the best, and since everyone seems to be giving there tips, i believe:
Happy Valley by under 2 goals, for a bit of an upset, probably close to the form side of the comp in the run home to finals. But how could you write off Morphett Vale?
Cove by 5-6 goals, Reynella, dunno whats up, good win on the weekend but still question marks i reckon. Coves question marks will come after this week though, there ability to play in either the semi or the prelim, we will find out if cove are the real deal
Brighton by 10 goals. Lonsdale not quite up to Brighton i dont think this week, too much pace in the midfield.
Porties by 5 goals. Had Lonsdale finished 7th, i would have tipped them, but since they fell back to 8th, i don't think Marion can push porties, the bigger bodies and just the experience could be the telling factor.

I think the semi's and the prelim however will be the best games of footy all year. Time will tell though.....

The Flaggies V Morphett Vale game was a ripper! An absolute spectacle to watch with the fastest, free flowing footy I have seen all year. Flaggies got out of the blocks early and were up 6 goals to 2 at quarter time. The Emus got back in the game in the second and went into half time 5 points down I think. The second half was a real tussle with the lead see-sawing numerous times. Both teams had the lead at some stage during the last quarter.

Very positive signs from the flaggy boys and hopefully next year they can improve their position on the ladder and play finals again next year. What were your thoughts on the game ZC or Mexican?

Yeah good call Speccy, was a well fought out game, apart from the early onslaught i had the feeling it was only a matter of time before the Emu's broke the game open, to Flaggies credit they didn't allow this to happen. Good bunch of youngsters that had a red hot go. What a great way to end the year for Flaggies but for me their inconsistency this year has been most disappointing, to make the finals last year and finish outside this year would be seen as a step back, i hope not, because the competition needs them competitive. When we played them earlier on in the year they also stayed with us, albeit for the 1st quarter, then fell away considerably, their results in the latter half of the year have been much better and it just shows that how important it is to beat the teams around you on the ladder i.e Marion, Noarlunga, Lonsdale, Christies etc. Hopefully they can continue their second half improvement and push toward the top 6 or so sides next year...

I am assuming that Coxy will stay for another year...??

Yea speccy put up a real good fight some might have expected when push came to shove near the end the fact that there season was over might have meant they just let Moprhies kick away but to there credit they battled it out to the death definitely be happy with the team if you were a bush pig supporter! Having said that it did seem that Morphies didnt play there best footy but as to whether this was just an off day or a good amount of pressure from an inform opposition who knows!

Was he sent off as well..?? Surely a report equates to an immediate send off. Our mail down at Emu park was that he wasn't going to play against us a few weeks back because he was sent off the week previous which was supposedly his 3rd send off for the year. Obviously this wasn't the case.

if he has had a few send offs then how could the league possibly find him guilty and give him a suspended sentence? Suspended sentences should be for players with no previous infringements if he's been sent off previously this year surely that should ruin any chance he had of that! Seems like the league being too soft to make a decision again!

the rule is if you are red carded its a report which is a automatic send off and you take your chances at the tribunal
If you are yellow carded three time during the season its a automatic 2 game ban
Red card is a report only and you cop the verdict of the tribunal

My understanding of the card system is as follows, a red card counts for 2 send offs an automatic report and you cannot return to the field for the rest of the game, a yellow is 10 minutes and no report. Your explanation above is a little contradictory.

What did Manhood get on the weekend and what has he received during the year..?? Sounds like the league may have ballsed up once again...

Ok lads lets have some predictions for first week of finals.

I like:

Porties too strong for Marion
Likewise Brighton over Lonsdale / OSB
Tipping Cove to continue Reynella's struggles of late.
And i'm tipping Morphies by less then a goal over Valleys. This could be the match of the entire finals series i think.

Yeah they are certainly the safe tips of which i would also put my money on, would be very surprised if there was an upset from the Sunday games.. The saturday games however could go either way, lets' hope for the Fly's sake that Cove can perform under intense finals pressure...

I agree i with Swooper:
Porties too strong over Marion
I think Brighton will get over OSb by less than 5 goals
Cove over Reynella however Reynella wouldn't surprise with there experience and toughness. Cove need Ramsey Vick and Weidermann up and about to win this and to have a big say throughout the month
Morphies 5 plus goals over Happy Valley
Just still wondering about H Valley

Brighton will smash OSB
Porties will beat Marion
Not sure Cove vs Reynella - Cove the better side on paper but may lean to Reynella who have at least got to the GF the last few times and can turn around a huge loss last time - Winies in a cliff hanger
MV to just get over HV - HV the form side of the comp at the current minute - MV get the 2 Joralafsky's and Beeching back - 3 blokes over 6 ft 3 isn't that a bonus - and Beeching the most valuable player in the comp by an absolute mile...but they aren't playing anywhere near as well as earlier in the year, but good sides still peak at the right end of the year.
At the end of the day, the flag is still wide open - Porties, Marion and OSB can't win the flag now (just not good enough) - down to the Top 5.

Definitely telling games on the saturday, very important to win the first one. I think cove v reynella will be very close, and from a cove point of view, the lads know how important it is to have the week off. Played in last years prelim against reynella and know how buggered we were for that game, even more so this year with how hard the ovals are, which will weigh on our guys minds also this week. Both games to go either way for mine. Sundays games should go as scripted, but it is finals footy, anything can happen. Well done to marion to get in after having a coach quit half way through the year.
