I think most expect 5 in 3 years with the Rams to go for 2018. It will be interesting to see if any of the remaining top clubs approach GSFL, HFL or SAAFL.

With Brighton being the only club that contributed juniors to the league out of all 5 that have/will go it could be seen as a positive for the remaining clubs.

Tend to agree that it could be a positive Dutchy, the dysfunctional system of 2 x junior games playing at 1 place, an 18's game at another and 2 senior games somewhere else could not continue. Clubs resources were being stretched to breaking point.

My only concern as EV states, is if some top end clubs get sick of the SFL board and its ways and jump leagues to ensure their spot in a chosen comp, If this occurs, further depletion to our comp may result in the end of it.

For Example imagine Aldinga or a Shoes go to the GSFL or even a Valley or Flaggys to HFL along with the expected Marion move in 2018 to SAAFL.

Suggest the league work hard at keeping clubs in our league and adding a SUITABLE club to our league, as putting all your eggs in the Hackham basket has proven to be a costly waste of time.

Agree the SFL can really build strongly now with fewer clubs.

However as we have seen recently in cricket the SCA folded and the southern clubs went to the Victor league and Flaggies/HV are in the Hills league.

When do clearances start up again?

oneuponedown: Nobes is gone according to the clearance page. Bushpigs have picked up a ruckman & lost no-one.10+ gone from the Flies they are shot. Shoes, Emus, Flaggies will fight it out for the flag and Aldinga to be the big improver

shoe boy: will be interesting as i assume some teams scheduled to play them once & some teams twice so would be an uneven draw if left as is

Any details on the Flaggies ruckman?

I'd doubt any SFL team would be able to find that sort of coin. Good if you can get it! (And be arsed travelling)

If he is on that kind of coin wouldn't they be breaking salary cap rules.. I thought players were paid a max of $1000 per game.?

Think rule is only 1 player above 500 per game and no one else.
Ie you could pay 1 player 1500 and 19 players $100 to stay under 3500 cap.

Or you could follow the usual method of just play Nobes in a game of golf every Friday arvo for 18 weeks in Waikerie for around $500 - loser takes all!! ;)
that way he s only on $900 when the fuzz come knocking, plus his off set account of the uncanny ability to get beat at golf each week!

It's in the rules... Each team may have 1 marquee player paid no more than $1,000 per match

$1400 max including travel allowance. However I don't think it's an 800km round trip to Waikerie, unless he's flying there every Saturday :D

16 game season for the SFL this year?

Less teams, less games, less relevance?

Less income for all teams....pissing off the stronger Northern clubs probably ain't the best way forward for the SFL

2 less games = 2 less pay days for players, trainers, medical supplies, and 1 less brand new Sherrin. Does one home game cover 2 weeks of these costs? Sponsorship and non match day fundraising initiatives shouldn't be affected. Yes, 2 less weeks of Saturday night bar trade but not all clubs get direct benefit from this depending on sports club arrangements. The less games, less income argument has been trotted out before but it has to be balanced against expenditure. At least the ambos will be happy. 2 less Saturday's of ramping at Flinders!!!
