On a positive note the umpiring during the A grade game on the w/end was the best I have seen this year . With the ruck duels 2 big units all over each other 90% of the time the umps played on with both grappling for position , this is an area where I can never work out how some umps call it one way or the other . Also it appeared that decisions where just the obvious as it should be.

Now I am not going to have a crack at any INDIVIDUAL umps but can someone please let me know why umps need miked up?? I understand if you are umpiring in front of 50000 at Adelaide oval but please .

It has been good to see Tom Carter create the physical ruck duels, he doesn't mind the body contact. The umpires to let the boys play on is the way the game should be played. It's a physical game, let the boys battle it out.

Yes a great win by us but we are not getting to carried away. We are finally getting close to full side with O'Hagan back in we have some more flexibility.

Cannot speak for Reynella but they looked like that had a shitload of players out. I dont know them all but didnt see Carter, Greenbank or Minns playing but there must have been more because they had some real young kids playing and there was one guy who must have debuted cos they got around him after a goal.

We have a great run home now and missing top4 would be disappointing

I reckon Marion will go, MVP wont go till they are forced out and that wont ever happen, Brighton is a toss up but why wouldnt you want to go to a comp that gives you a decent game each week

We can all sit on here and take pot shots at the SFL but I reckon it's time clubs took a stand and forced a vote to go back to full day of footy on a Saturday which was the best thing about the SFL. The SFL wont ever do anything about it without being forced because they are run mostly by Lonsdale people.

Maybe some interesting times ahead if any of the above threads prove to be true! Time will tell.
Are Hackam and Lonsdale really viable given where they are located? M-Vale are only a stones throw away from Hackam and are a well established strong club. Why the need for another club that shares the same area as them is baffling? Same could be said for Lonsdale with Reynella so close by!

As much as a lot of us up the hill bag Brighton they will be a big loss to our comp. Losing one of our strongest clubs in an already weak competition can't be a good thing. Mail is strong on here that they are going and I heard from a good source this week that is the case! But as I said time will tell. Possible 2016 premiers!!!

Interested in everyone's thoughts on the standard of football in our junior competition compared to other leagues down the hill.

15 years ago SFL was arguably the best under age comp in the state from 14's to 18's bar the SANFL. This was also reflected in rep games from memory. It's fallen away immensely in overall standard and others have taken over. Not hard to connect the dots with 2 divs amalgamated to 1.

I agree the standard has dropped off a lot in recent years. Seems to be the same teams every year competing in the finals in the junior grades. A few years back Cove we're very strong in the juniors, not sure what has happened there?

I remember playing for Hackham in juniors and going to grounds like Reynella, Brighton and Flagstaff Hill and winning by 8-10 goals. I tell people that now and I get called a liar...

My understanding is the umpires use the head sets as a training tool. More often than not a coach on the side line is also miked up and can give feedback during a game or the senior umpire on the field can give instructions throughout the game to a junior umpire.
Anything that helps them improve can only be a good thing! The constant rule changes over the last few years have not made their jobs any easier.
Good to see some young blokes working there way through the ranks and umpiring A grade, not before time!

Yes, this is correct. Difficult time for the boys in the remaining rounds for what has already been a tough year.

Not sure what benefit is achieved by Marion replacing the coach now. Any indication on whether he simply walked?

On another note, I was speaking to a mate today who is affiliated with a Div 1 amateur club. He said there is strong talk around the amateur league that the SFL will disband altogether next year and clubs will be forced to choose between applying to join amateurs, Hills or GSFL.

I have not read the previous posts on this site for a while, so this might be old news. Has anyone heard anything along these lines. The guy who told me has no affiliation with any SFL club and has no reason to make it up.
