Last season Tailem Bend had a good team, but didn't pass the elimination final. His application to his coaching was poor, often missing trainings and seeming disinterested. The boys often reported that he didn't attend trainings and when he did the B grade coach ran drills. And his recruits were terrible. Really really bad!

Having said all this, I don't think Tailem Bend saw the best Dent had to offer. He might be better coaching closer to home, eliminating the travel commitments. He is a fantastic bloke too, everyone at our club got along with him.

Wish him all the best with the new job and hope he has better luck than he did at Tailem Bend.

Drama if you are going to **** can someone get your fact right he didn't coach last season it was 2009 you tool

I think i made it quite clear I had no intention of bagging the bloke out, and just talked about his disappointing time at Tailem Bend. No "*** canning" intended, just spoke of his poor record down at Tailem, and actually defended him, saying he could be a good coach for his new club. Why so defensive? Wish I never opened that can of worms.

I also think it's quite clear by saying last season, I was meaning last year, as picked up by WoW - he new what season I was talking about, I eluding to the elimination final and all. If you couldn't work that out for yourself I would suggest that perhaps you shouldn't call others tools...

Good luck to Matthew, didn’t see success with our club, hope he does with his new one as he is a good bloke. Geez.

So you go on another football league's forum and allude to a match that most on here would have no knowledge of??

I think the description "tool" is still adequate.

No, went on another league's forum hearing about an appointment of a coach who was previously at the club I follow, reading some pretty harsh comments. So explained he wasn't successful at our club, but definitely has the potential to be, and by all reports, was before. Seem to hit a nerve… apologies.

Need good recruits in country footy to have a good team Drama. Had a few beers with Denty after we played in them in 2009 and he seemed like a good bloke. Cant really comment on his coaching but he conducted himself well during/after two of his players were punching on during that elimination final you were talking about Drama. Maybe the players should take some responsibility for that... & we were too good for you anyway ;)

You can still have a good team without good recruits. And yeah, I can’t speak for the players, but certainly, they are the ones playing. I do remember that day, the lads played terrible, and with the list we had, we underachieved. We beat Mannum twice last year, who ended up playing in a grand final.

Like I said, Dent’s lack of commitment and enthusiasm showed and I feel affected us.

But, like I said, he is a champion bloke and hopefully this can be eradicated at his new club.

From an outsider i dont think you underachieved at all. You finished where you should of. As for Dents so called lack of commitment, maybe after recruits left without notifying him, a player ringing up a few hours before the match saying he had to baby sit & couldn't play & probably the worst incident between team mates i've ever seen dampened his enthusiasm. As a coach there is only so much you can do. Good luck to Denty at the Valleys. Move on :D

I don't disagree with your points as to why his enthusiasm was dampened at all.

That's basically my point, he didn't have success here, his enthusiasm and commitment wavered for whatever reasons, but that doesn't mean he won't do well else where. I was actually trying to stick up for the bloke and seemed to hit a nerve. :?

Moved on, and again, good luck to a good bloke.

Thanks Peter for all the work you have done over the last 4 years and getting Morphy Parks back on track. The last year didn't end out the best but you will still go down as one of the best coaches the Roos have had.
Congrats to Aaron Hockey on getting the job and taking the Roos the next step in 2011. Should be some exciting times ahead.

No dramas from my point of view, Mr. D :)
I feel for you, mate ---- the same thing has happened to me a couple of times. One person doesn't read your whole post properly and gets stuck into you, then a whole lot of copycats jump in to have their piece --- none of whom have read it properly.
Just letting you know at least one reader didn't take it negatively. I wish you and your side best of luck for 2011.

Guys are there any Senior Coaches position that are still undecided?

By the way why surprising that Trevor Potts is coaching in the HFL was there a reason he didn't want to come back to the SFL?

Been interstate for a few days and boy has this topic exploded!!

Saw Alan Stringer coach at valley this year and came and listened a few times when he was coaching valley A grade a few years back - Cove are certainly in for a ride - he is a very good coach but doesnt tolerate fools and will likely upset a few at cove

As for Matthew Dent lets hope he is up to the job at valleys - their window of opportunity with the current list may be about to close. The decision makers turned down a very good applicant to appoint this guy so fingers crossed

Interesting that Porter wasnt appointed at MVP but sounds like they were thorough in their decision making and those that made the decision knew Ben well - if they decided not to appoint him I am sure there are reasons for that and no doubt these would have been shared with him

With the standard of opposition teams/clubs in the SFL over the past 5-6 years did Happy Valley ever have an open window, let alone a shutting one at senior level?

Navy - have you got something for Porter? Been trying to sell him to every SFL club looking for a coach. Perhaps his day is done in the SFL and may need to look at another market to shop himself.

Was actually 2 flags in 4 years. And the side was far from quality when he rocked up. Would be very surprising to see him at club for only 1 year. Thrives on turning football clubs around.
