Flaggies could do with some more Under 8's so if you want your kid to play in a great junior system head on out on Friday nights from 6pm

With the under-8s, does that include children who turned 8 this year? My boy was going to start footy this year but changed his mind - he's a shy kid and he already plays cricket so he said 'I think one sport is enough for me this year.' But I think he's having second thoughts.

If he was under 8 on the 1st January then he qualifies for under 8's.

Well done to all the mini teams, supporters, coaches and parents on their attitude towards the umpires so far this season, and how they have conducted themselves thus far. Only once has my son had to penalise a team for it's supporters shouting out over a "wrong" decision and a runner telling him how to umpire. Also many thanks so far to the Home teams that he has umpired at, who have told him to go to the canteen/BBQ after his umpiring and to help himself to a drink and something to eat. The standard of play by the U10's and U12's has been outstanding, as with their behaviour and their attitude towards the umpiring.

Great to hear, umpiring has been good also this year. All clubs have been excellent this year with their communication before games etc and makes it quite clear all the clubs are putting in place the right people.

Maybe last year was the year we needed to have to get things right.

Generally it's been a good year. There are a couple of clubs that make life unnecessarily difficult. As its been said it is about the kids.

He was. He's visiting his dad in America right now but I'll look into it when he gets back. :-)

Good to see common sense with the last round of game in the 10's & 12's brought forward an hour and the Under 8 carnival starting at 11am so those with siblings across the grades can play and then catch all the action at the Under 8's.

Would like to congratulate the SFL minis umpires this season, I reckon they have been brilliant overall. It is quite clear they are being coached to protect the ball player with very few holding the ball decisions. Considering most of them are still kids themselves and in the early stages of umpiring there is consistency every week which makes it easier to coach to and the kids to learn from. Well done.

Like to leave a comment on here as another positive for umpires The lad who umpired the under 10 game at Port Noarlunga yesterday was incredibly terrific umpired well, talked encouraged and used common sense. He was completely in charge of the game and I rarely comment on umpires and if we do its mainly negative I guess but this ws terrific.

I think the Showdown which starts at 2.50pm on Sunday (Crows home game) may have caused some panic in the SFL ranks as to when the Under 8 Carnival should start and finish.

But why does no-one in the SFL or some clubs for that matter show some foresight and spot these issues alot sooner. The Showdown date has been known since November last year. Why didn't the SFL get an email out to clubs many weeks ago asking for feedback about the timing of the Under 8 Carnival and the timing of the Under 10 and Under 12 games for this Sunday. They sensibly moved the Under 10 and Under 12 games earlier presumably on the basis of a late morning start to the Under 8 Carnival and now they go and schedule the Carnival to start at 9am.

That's fine, but how many of the lads who umpire are unable to umpire on a Fri. night due to work commitments ??
I did hear talk on Sunday that some clubs didn't know that the U10's & U12's times were brought forward, or have they returned them to their normal time slot ??

Any news on an official Starting time, do I have to be in 2 places at once or is it at 11:30?

I'm led to believe that it's still at 9.

Any teams who lack trainers, coordinators etc will be assisted by other teams on the day on a needs basis.

What is the reason for the change to 9 am as I have heard 2 stories. Hope there is enough umpies as most do 8's then 10's on the same day.
