Players walked out on Edwardstown and players walked out on Tailem Bend when Dent was at the helm. AFL experience is great but coaching is a different ball game. Eg. Danny Frawley - great player - terrible coach. Dent doesn't come with a glowing record. And Tailem weren't that bad when he arrived but he left them in tatters.

Danny Frawley coached AFL. If he coached at amateur level I am sure it would have been a different story. Give the bloke a chance before you all write him off. Seriously annoys me the amounts of keyboard warriors these forums have and their opinions of people with out putting their names to the comments.

Danny Frawley was used as an example at the highest level. Furthermore he stopped coaching when he knew he was no good at it. So did Watson. There are many coaches at local level who are more than terrible and keep getting appointed year after year by clubs who simply do not do their homework. How many chances can they be given? I guess there aren't too many quality coaches on offer. As for attaching personal names to forums... cmon do you really think people will start doing that. I don't think so champ.

Rock you seem to know a lot about Dent. I would like to know what players walked out on him???? I think you may find that most players walked out after he had left both clubs he coached.

Doesn't make it right mate. Why are we involved in footy if the best thing we can do is attack individuals on public forums because we don't like them or the way they do things? Just don't agree with it.

He went to Edwardstown in his second year they won the flag, first flag in over 20 years. Third year they went up to div 1 and stayed in div 1. The season after he left they they finished bottom or second bottom back to div 2. So I would say his time at the townies was successful. As far as Tailem goes I can't answer that.?????

Dent struggled at Tailem Bend, this was obvious.

Last season Tailem Bend had a good team, but didn't pass the elimination final. His application to his coaching was poor, often missing trainings and seeming disinterested. The boys often reported that he didn't attend trainings and when he did the B grade coach ran drills. And his recruits were terrible. Really really bad!

Having said all this, I don't think Tailem Bend saw the best Dent had to offer. He might be better coaching closer to home, eliminating the travel commitments. He is a fantastic bloke too, everyone at our club got along with him.

Wish him all the best with the new job and hope he has better luck than he did at Tailem Bend.

I'd have to agree with this post. I'm not debating Dent is a good bloke but Towns were a long time ago and I saw what happened at Tailem. He just won't be able to add any cattle to make Valleys stronger and his commitment levels seem to waiver when the chips are down. I'm just saying there would have been better coaches on offer... Surely. I think it's a sideways step for Valleys, maybe even a backward step. Time will tell.

Need good recruits in country footy to have a good team Drama. Had a few beers with Denty after we played in them in 2009 and he seemed like a good bloke. Cant really comment on his coaching but he conducted himself well during/after two of his players were punching on during that elimination final you were talking about Drama. Maybe the players should take some responsibility for that... & we were too good for you anyway ;)

You can still have a good team without good recruits. And yeah, I can’t speak for the players, but certainly, they are the ones playing. I do remember that day, the lads played terrible, and with the list we had, we underachieved. We beat Mannum twice last year, who ended up playing in a grand final.

Like I said, Dent’s lack of commitment and enthusiasm showed and I feel affected us.

But, like I said, he is a champion bloke and hopefully this can be eradicated at his new club.

I don't pay enough attention to know who you are, but i think you may be barking up the wrong tree.
Mate, my point that he is a good bloke, but struggled with recruiting and committment and would be better suited to a club closer to home. That is not something I would shy away from saying to anyone. Like I said, we didn't see the best of him, but heard lots of good thinks from Edwardstown. Couldn't committ to our club and recuriting seemed difficult for him. I would say that to whoever asked.
I remember watching him in his first season, when he was player/coach and had nothing to work with thinking that with a successful midfield he could have kicked 60 plus goals himself, team would have done well and everyone would have been talking about how good he was.
I'm not trash talking, its facts that his commitment level, due to work/life/etc was down and there was failed recruits. I only felt the need to comment because of what I was reading back him on here and I thought it was a touch unfair, so clairified that he didn't have a successful time at Tailem, we can't lie and say he did, but we didn't see the best of him and he could be great for his new club.
