On a brighter note congrats to the U14's for making the finals, well done. Also the mini's have 90 players for 3 teams and won plenty of games this year with the 4/5's losing 2 games, great work by John Nixon and his committee/coaches, having to make up rosters to allow kids equal game time is an indication of the strength of our mini's, hopefully we can get it right in the next few years when they filter through. Lucky to get in the club for mini's preso's, full house.
Cheers.

Well, it seems we're heading back to Shark Park for next year! :D very glad to be back, missed it a lot.

So I might as well get straight into it. I heard your pre-season starts Jan 18th. Are there going to be any sessions at all before Christmas? Because in my opinion a solid pre-season is tantamount to success. I've always said this. I don't know what-all kind of a year Aldinga had in '09 really because I wasn't around, but that Hackham loss can't have gone down too well.

I know a lot has changed in the last year or so, mainly that a lot of talented (and highly paid) players left the club after Shane Lynch went to Onkas. Aldinga hasn't got the depth of talent that it did in '07-'08. Even so, there's no reason why finals can't still be a realistic aim. But pre-season is everything. You've got to be able to give a four-quarter effort to win games. I know this from experience - I don't even want to think how many games my team lost in the last ten minutes of the last quarter this year. It's a terrible feeling.

With the current housing developments and influx of people to the area (i.e. INCLUDING KIDS WHO WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL), Aldinga especially needs now to show that they're serious about their footy, because otherwise all these kids are just going to f**k off to Willunga. This is the best chance for the Sharks to make a real go of it.

Anyway, not meaning to have a go, I'm just very keen to see Aldinga have a great season next year and show what they can really do. Time to stop dwelling on the six premierships or whatever it was they won back in 1920-something - the only flags that matter now are the ones to be won in the future. And it can happen.

Come on the Sharks in 2010!!! :D

Dude i came up with the idea of canvasing ALL the new housing developments about 2 yrs ago to get new players, get the kids involved so in time the club could be really strong. I approached the club with this and said id be prepared to do all the work etc, but they didnt want a bar of it, so now i guess its way too late those kids will go to Willunga or Myponga/Sellicks...

Our Under 14's made the finals this year, we are doubling our mini's teams so will have 2 teams in each grade as kids were being rotated = ie getting half a game because we had too many kids. We have Every grade for 2010 Under 14, 16, 18 and 2 teams in each grade of the mini's, not sure where you see us struggling? Too many mini's so we are adding teams. Fact.

Also never too late, can always come along to a committee meeting and volunteer your time, let me know and I'll set it up for you.

The club over the past 5 years has had ample opportunity to go to the local school and show some interest in retaining these kids but there hasn't been anyone in contact for years. The school SAPSASA team this year blitzed the Southern District carnival and won the shield easily. More than half these kids will not play at the Sharks next year

Just curious who you spoke to? Obviously wasn't me but just keen to know out of curiosity, this is my 3rd year on the committee. Kelly Lovett Coaches the Aldinga primary school kids, his own included, is regularly at Senior games and I believe may be coaching U14's next year. Danny Wilde has coached his son in the U14's while he was still at Aldinga primary School (been involved with club last 4 years). Two of our junior coaches have been coaching their kids who attend Aldinga primary school.

There is also a Junior sub-committee who also has a representative come to the club meetings (usually John Nixon or Sarah), as well as their own meetings. They fill us in on happenings and give requests etc. They wish to be self sufficient but we also provide money etc when they ask, ie merchandise. They run their own BBQ on sundays. Obviously the senior committee pay the running costs of the club (which their are many - rent, power, gas, insurance, etc).

i agree that there have been and are a number of parents that show dedication towards junior development in the Aldinga area. The club needs to promote itself more at Aldinga school, and retain some of these juniors that choose elsewhere. I understand you can't keep them all though. Things, however may be on the improve with u14's in the finals this year which was a fantastic effort. Time will tell

Isn't it when they go to Willunga High that you lose them to Willunga and McLaren?

Yes that is an issue, but I can think of more kids going to Myponga than Willunga. Maybe its because it is Myponga/Sellicks. The Sellicks link may be the lure
