Geez, Roo Ted, sure wish i knew who you were because you make very valid points.
i understand the final decision will be up to his daughters, with the wifey having a little say as well.

As to Ben not getting the job, well i was as surprised as anyone, but the interviewing committee did consist of 3 very learned people with 2 being very good mates of Ben's.

Not everything is about who you know in football but it may normally get you in the door, from there you have to sell yourself.

He got the Valley job - it's confirmed
Some players not too happy though

Your kidding aren't you, Matthew Dent to coach Valleys. Did nothing at Tailem, very little at Towns, did Valleys do any research on this one? Promises the world, presents well, delivers nothing. Beware players... Beware. Surely there were more appropriate applicants.

I think you are going a bit over the top there BTP any coach is as good as his players and Trevor has had some good ones. If he is so good why didn't Hahndorf make the finals in the HFL this year? Not saying he is not good because he has the record to prove it, but not quite as good as you are saying.

There was other applicants - Steve Wallace was close to getting it but they went with Dent - real interesting call that especially when Wallace could have got the club sparking again.

Huge appointment this one as the club has probably under acheived given it's list over the last 4-5 years.

I hear there are players leaving to go to the Hills and GSFL so who knows what players will still be there for Dent to coach.
Rumour has it he has promised some recruits as well - is that why Golding is leaving Shoes?

Is his older brother Cameron (currently at McLaren in the GSFL) going to play under him at the Twisties? Seems an odd choice for coach to me given his age, but he is a top bloke.

I think it's a great appointment for the twisties, Aaron is on the younger side but has alot of knowledge and resources so will be good for the young roos side. I know he has shoulder problems but I'm sure you will see him pull the guernsey on everynow and then but has alot of potential to be a good coach in the sfl.

Bit closer to home will suit him nicely and show a few people that he knows what he is on about, well done Morphy Parks.

Dent + promises = nothing. If players are thinking of leaving Valleys don't hesitate, do it. A season under Dent will be a season wasted. Nothing against the HVFC just a bad appointment.

All about moving forward and looking towards opportunities of possible success. I think it's an awesome situation for the club. Fresh blood to bring in some new spin on things. Could have been one of the reasons why Ben missed out. As recruiter 10 said on page 2 of this thread "HOPE we see some fresh faces in the coaching ranks in 2011 and not recycle the same ones from club to club eg.Porter ). Can't get much fressher than this.

Matt Dent has played AFL football and SANFL football he has more knowledge and experience then ANY other coach in the SFL . He coached a premiership at Edwardstown then decided to go try and help a struggling club deliberately going where it would be tough not just easy. And unless you have played under him which I have how can you comment on his coaching ability. Great motivator and his knowledge and afl experience will be very valuable to the vikings. I personally wish him all the best

you can have all the knowlegde and experience in the world but it wont make you a great coach unless you can apply it and coaching just isnt about knowledge and experience.
he had big wraps coming to tailem and didnt do alot. spent alot of money on players that couldnt finish out the season and more than three quarters didnt return. did they even win a game last year? hopefully he can prove most people wrong but happy valley would want to finish at least top 3 next year to improve on this year.
going on dent's last couple of years i cant see this happening he doesnt recruit the right players.
