Thanks, they need to shift it to late feb and march to get more teams interested... you'd think the pool games would be feb 4, 11 & 18 and the final on the 25th... Then a fortnight without games before trial start in mid-march.... Makes for a very long haul if you're good/lucky enough to be playing deep into September

True, take that another step further and they did the exact same double the year before!
Does that mean that pre-season training [running / conditioning] is over-rated for surburban football teams...
Fitness & conditioning through match play is the best preperation for the season??!!

So how many of you blokes will making your way to HV Oval for the games starting this Friday?
What do you all think about the game in general? Do you like the modified rules? ie not centre square but a 20 metre circle, play on off the posts, goal counts if the ball hits the post and goes through the goals etc.?

"Play on off the posts" sucks a bit, but can wear the others for a pre-Season Carnival.
Most of the rules I'd hate to see become part of the regular season though --- especially the "9-pointer" ----- makes the scores too complicated.

How seriously do the clubs take it? Is it more to try the young kids?

from what ive heard it gives a chance for some younger players to show what they can offer, but its more about the fitness, however there is a bit of $$$ involved for the winner and ive heard the lofty boys dont really wanna loose anything they can win they wanna get as much silver wear as possible. Then again not every player is avaliable for the competition.

I'll take Flinders Park. They are 1 of the SAAFL's big clubs, i'm sure they will shock a few and I reckon they will figure high in Div 2 finals preceedings too....

played against lofty in a trial game last year they were red hot and were missing a few players so wouldnt be surprised if they blow every team out the water.

Results from first round-
Valley held on to beat Flinders Park by six points in a terrific game of footy.
Mt Lofty absolutely awesome. Thrashed SHOC with brilliant running football. Boy I like watching this side !!!

Yehh first game a bit scrappy, then mt lofty put on a clinic! Quick, first give, flowing game of footy and hard at the footy. was speaking to 1 of their officials after the game and he said they only had 19 players and none of their starting A grade midfield played, shows they have got some depth.

You think so?
I thought it was scrappy and not alot of fluent movement.
Yes its just a pre season hit out, i understand that but in the 2nd game supporters would have noticed a real difference in the way skills were executed and how the ball was carried not rushed from end to end. Great pressure around the footy by all four teams though for a first hit out!
Lofty just too good..

Yeah the first game was scrappy, Lofty were very impressive and SHOC's are in real trouble IMHO. Even if that was a depleated side I cant see them doing much damage in div 1, if any damage at all............

Here we go....gee give me a break. Its Feb 6, its a kick and a catch and a chance to give first year players from school a go. Lofty are a ver very good side and that was always going to happen, but I would jump to conclusions just yet....
