Last year Cove were brilliant against the lower sides but seemed to lose the plot against all the top sides as they lost their structure quickly under pressure and relied on too few who all seemed to go missing. I would think that any talk of them playing off vs Morphett Vale is very premature to say the least. Lets wait until Cove have played Brighton, HV and Reynella before you start talking them up ... at the moment Cove are the best flat track bullies in the comp - their challenge is to do this against the big boys consistently. I have seen them this year and they (Cove) aren't too bad - certainly improved in a number of areas and their discipline is 100% better. But I would think that Brighton, HV and Reynella will all come storming home as well.

Any talk of certainties for the GF is absolute rubbish...its alright to place some odds but injuries, form, size and condition of grounds, and even the bloody weather play a huge part in September action...

Brighton won the flag in 2002 and played off and lost ($@#@) in 2004. In 2003 they should have easily been in the GF but not for injuries and suspensions that cost them....A few injuries to cove and even MVale could see them exit early in the final series...You only have to have down match in the prelim and you're gone....

Fair Sure that no one from Cove has talked up certain GFs or odds on favourites on this forum at all. Actually im more then sure that no one from Cove is talking about flags and finals at all. We were quick to learn our lesson after last year and its round 3 the whole club has realised we havent played anyone one decent yet but we've played the oppostition we've faced and thats all we can do.

And maybe you should go back and check last years results to lose the plot against the good sides the games they lost were to Morphett Vale twice and Reynella Twice (Two dominating sides the last 2 years) plus the minor premiers once when they were on fire. Look back at thumping Brighton twice, Valleys and Reynella and Porties thrashings once. It was the first time the club had beaten some of these teams ever. It's not like we suddenly have the wood on these clubs and are expected to beat them every time we play them their small steps but still steps none the less.

Went down and watched the Marion game under lights. Noarlunga seemed to control the bar and the balcony for most of the night. Old stallwarts in Charlton, Nyland and Pink were all in good early form although Charlton was well tagged late. Tassone was a notable absentee not being allowed out after 7.30. With Fingers, Hockley and young Locky Cole all set to make returns over the next few weeks, the opposition bars look set for a busy period. The Shoe's on field performance was not so strong, but the bar stocks could be given a boost with the addition of Huddo to the sidelines with a straw.

I like this weeks fixtures. Looking forward to petoe's odd's on the Sharks this week, they will be absolute certainty's. i'm not sure that they have won 2 games in a season since we went back to 1 division, if the scores are correct against flaggies they may win a few more this season. I'm also thinking that Brighton v The Valley will be interesting also, not sure why the were smacked by Reynella, did anyone see the game..??

Which game did you cover Gringo?

Saw the first half of the Emus v Brighton game, then went to a corporatey at footy park to watch the crows, gee watching a live game of AFL (flooding style) these days is just not the same. Countless occaisions where there wasn't a crow forward of the centre circle. What a load of cr@p... Beer was cold and food was plentiful, so all in all can't complain.

They were very undisciplined....They were a lot bigger bodied than the Bombers and I think they saw some easy targets in some younger and smaller targets.....Beeching and Jaroflowsky (or however you spell it) were typical instigators...hate to say it but Beeching in particular is a blouse and targets only those he thinks he can stand over....

Interesting you say this "Franky"... Remember back in the early 2000's when Brighton had those poor excuses for footballing brothers the "Drapers" what do you think they did to the up and coming young Emus team, the wheel turns my friend. If only they were still playing now, it would be interesting to see how they would exert their physical presence against the likes of Beeching and the Joraslafsky brothers. Beeching will take on anyone, big or small, make no mistake of that, sounds like he may have got you once or twice in years gone by. Let me say this, if the SFL coaches voted on a SFL MVP (similar to AFL) i would put any amount of money that he would if not win the award finish in the top three...

Bit harsh poor excuses...they played more SANFL league football than those 2 could ever dream about....

Jono or anyone from Cove- can you confirm a young bloke badly hurt in a car crash down at Darlington this week was one of yours?

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

top 4?

Postby Cheech » Wed May 09, 2007 1:22 pm

OK - I want to hear what everyone thinks of this...

Happy Valley have played Christies Beach and Southern Hawks and obviously won comfortably. And Everyone has said Reynella have lost quite a few players - After the weekends results - Is it safe to assume that Happy Valley have also dropped of significantly and will be in the mix with the "middle of the road" teams lonsdale, Flaggy Hill, Pt Noarlunga. Opening up a DOUBLE chance for any 1 of many "middle" teams? This will make the season interesting?

Top 4.
1. MORPHETT VALE
2. COVE
3. BRIGHTON
4. ?

Don't think some teams have dropped off as much as what people are thinking, it's only early days, i believe there to be a standout top 5 then a considerable gap to the next lot of contenders.
1. Emus
2. Cobra's
3. Winefly's
4. ??? - Bombers/Vikings (At this stage, from i have seen am leaning toward Vikings).

At the Bay and at South, when both clubs were at their peak challenging for an SANFL premiership (do you detect my hint of sarcasm..??) ... I wonder how many other local talents haven't played league footy because of self employment commitments etc.. Pyman has been chasing Beeching for 3-4 years now. To committ to league footy these days is a massive ask, training 4-5 times a week with weights sessions before work etc etc... I can't blame guys with incredible talent for sticking with the local clubs. I wonder if we asked Beech what he would rather... 50 odd SANFL games with no on field success (i have no idea how many league games the "snipers" played between them) or 3 x A grade premierships medals around his neck at the age of 25...?? I know what i would rather...!!
