Took my niece and nephew along last night, and actually enjoyed what I thought was a pretty entertaining game ... Shandong had too much quality for United who fielded a rather understrength team (by comparison with the A-League season just gone), and probably deservedly took away the points.

Plenty to like about Adelaide's 1st half with Burns and Djite linking up beautifully at times ... If they had a decent presence in the box Im confident we could have put a couple in the back of the net (Agostino could be a real beneficiary of their play) and in the 2nd half Doddy provided similar opportunities.

We really need to bring in some decent midfield players for next season as IMHO thats the obvious area of deficiency.

Unfotunately (and this isn't meant to slag him as he's been good value) I think father time has caught up with Fernando and it's time to move him on.

Beltrame again BTW, was fantastic last night, one save in particular kept us in the game.

For those people who LOATHE the diving/histrionics/theatrics in the sport, you would have been extremely annoyed at the display last night, it actually became quite farcical.

I like the home top, I still think AU should go for the same look as spain with more blue involved, looks ordinary with all red unless it has a white vee involved.

How was that long distance strike in the Sydney game!
I couldn't believe it from way outside the box - seen so rarely in the A-League.
It was lovely.

Both Sydney goals were class.

Our strikers are only young, they will improve... Agostino will add strength in the air and if we do get Carbone we will have a bit of flair too. We just can not finish off our hard work though.

What do people think of the Asians Championship League and would you go to one as opposed to a weekend game against someone like the Victory?
I personally feel myself and most others see them as nothing more than glorified practise games against teams we've never heard of at an awkward time of the week. The competition doesn't even have prize money except for the winners of the comp so there's not a lot of incentive.
Having said that I do hope both Australian teams do well (especially AU) but hey, if you could swap an A League championship for a semi finals berth in the ACL I know what I'd choose.

In time it will take off... football is experiencing it's 'second coming' at the moment and the ACL is totally new to everybody. In Europe the Champions League is huge and the hardcore United fans acknowledge that and it will take time for others to realise just how big it is. Any prize money won by Aussie clubs will be shared anyway, unlike overseas.

A-League is priority as we will be there every year. but the ACL is much much bigger, and more important, and you will not get the chance to play there every season, i would much rather win the ACL than an A-League grand final.

CL is so important because of the money it generates, with TV and gate receipts, around £10m depending how far you get. Used to be the European Cup, which was open to the champions only of the magor european footballing nations. The smaller ones had to go through a pre EC knock out comp 1st.

Opinions are split between, the devaluation of the competition by allowing the top 3 or 4 in, and the added value of having a wider competition. It's all driven by dosh though. All the big league clubs are in favour of it because of the revenue they can get, UEFA is in favour of it because of the advertising revenue it generates and of course the sponsors are in favour of it because of the wider market they can reach.

Unless the ACL can follow suit there is a likelyhood that it will always been seen as a distraction to the league IMHO There seems a real resurgance of soccer over there right now, and, with the J league and the development of other asian leagues, I would think it is only a matter of time before the ACL has some real importance, but it would have to be on financial grounds.

Yeah it is... he also played 3 games for Sydney FC last year and absolutely killed us here at Hindmarsh, scored 1 and set up 2 more.

Yeah it is... he also played 3 games for Sydney FC last year and absolutely killed us here at Hindmarsh, scored 1 and set up 2 more.

Seem to remember he was a disaster at Bradford. They brought him in, in an attempt to help stave off relegation. Needless to say, it didn't work and when they were in the second division, they tried to offload him because of his huge (for that league) salary. He refused to go and played out his contract. Bradford were relegated again down to the 3rd division and nearly went bust. Not entirely down to Carbone, but his salary definitely contributed to their plight. This is not an opinion on whether he should have left or not, but Bradfords problem was that they cold not find any club prepared to pay the same level of personal earings. Some might say they brought this on themselves. Dunno where he went after Bradford.
